Look at this handsome guy with a sports medal. (Right in the photo.) Don't you recognize him? You know him for sure! Did you also gasp when you realized who is he? This is our Goga Khakhalashvili! A guy whose story deeply shocked our readers. It shocked the entire Georgian Internet.

At the age of nine, due to a terrible accident, he was left without both arms. He became a disabled person who cannot eat and take care of himself on his own. His large family has no means to purchase hand prostheses for him. Our Fund wrote about Goga last August.

Hold your breath, now we will tell you super news. Our Goga took third place in the taekwondo competition in Turkey! You gave him confidence in himself. He has no arms, but you gave him wings to win.

 - Goga, we are very happy for you and admire your success. What happened in your life after the publication of the post?

Goga: I'm very happy. Now I believe that I am a strong person. You made me believe. Do you know what I think? At first life tried me hard, and now it decided to show me its sunny side. (Smiles). I hope it will not test me anymore. Now everything is going so well. My dreams have come true.

After your post, Shota Gochiashvili, a taekwondo teacher, contacted me and suggested me to go to sports. Of course, I agreed with great joy. I have been doing this sport for the third month already - it has greatly fascinated me. It plays a very important role in my life now.

I want to become a champion. I now believe that I will succeed one day. I have already won the third place. First, coach Shota and I were at the training camp in Bakuriani. And then we went to Istanbul, where taekwondo competitions were held.

- You've just started, and you're already winning. And what will happen next?! Goga, it was your first trip abroad. I can imagine how impressed you are.

Goga: It is a pity that due to the covid situation I could not see the city. But my emotions ran high. Although I only left the hotel for training and then for the competition, after returning home I had a lot to tell my brothers and sisters. I had a strong feeling of happiness because I played for Georgia. And at such a moment you believe in yourself, that you can do something.

- How do you fight in taekwondo?

Goga: Legs are key here. Para-taekwondo involves athletes who have no arms or partially amputated arms. You can't hit the head.

I tell Shota about your Fund. At this time, I am so happy that at times I even forget that I have no arms. I am so grateful to all of you! Not only me - my whole family is now living in a new way. My sister goes to the embroidery circle, now we are all busy with something. And our mom is happy too seeing how happy we are.

- I am sure new friends have appeared in your life.

Goga:  Now I have many friends. Mainly, these are the guys with whom I go to taekwondo. We have common interests and common problems, we understand each other well. Since people have heard my story, many people have been talking to me, listening, smiling, and understanding me. It is very nice. I realized that one should never give up. You just have to wait until the right moment. I want everyone who has similar problems to fight until the end. Do not put up with a bad state and do not give up. You can defeat a hard life. Good people can help with that. Your post gave me this happiness. And I want to give my first victory to all these kind people.

- This is the best gift. Touching to the point of tears. Mother Mari, would you like to say something?

Mari: My child is happy - that's what you managed to do. Lord heard our prayers and sent us good people, our guardian angels. We lived in unbearable poverty, I did not know how to change our situation, how to help my son. I just shed tears and lost hope. It's embarrassing to admit that, but it's true. I often dreamed that my son could hug me again, my children were not hungry, it was warm at home, and problems were slowly being resolved. Everything was good only in my dreams.

Now we sighed with relief in reality. Sometimes I don't even believe it. (Smiles). So many wonderful people wanted to help my son! They experience hard time too - earning money is not easy now. I really appreciate what people took from themselves and helped my family. It was very significant to me. May you be rewarded with good for your big hearts!

– How much did our readers' gifts make your everyday life easier?

Mari: People helped me very much. Tears flow from my eyes when I recalled the torment, I lived in. Our old washing machine was a real mockery. The clothes remained being dirty after being washed in it. And I washed it again with hands. So, I did all the time, no matter was it the sun in the yard, snow, or wind. Then it completely broke down. My children took pity on me. I saw it in their eyes that their hearts hurt. Now they are just as happy as I am. You know, children always look at their mother, what mood she is in. And they feel the same way.

You have helped us immensely. We didn't get cold in winter thanks to the gas heater. They brought a gas water heater, and medications too. I thank you for everything and bless you! God bless you!

- Maybe you want to single out someone of the readers?

Mari: A group of local journalists was very attentive to us. They came together and helped our family.

People from the school also contacted us and invited us to hobby groups. Now my children embroider, sew, take care of flowers.

I met two emigrants - Nino and Lia. They now live in Italy, and their situation is quite difficult too. They read the story of my Goga and did everything to help us.

I want to hug everyone who liked my Goga. Many thanks to everyone who opened their hearts, shared warmth, attention, care with my family. You are the one who gives me strength. Goga says I have to be strong. “Get ready to be a champion mom,” he says. And my eyes fill with tears when I think about all this.

- Giorgi, do you think life is getting better?

Giorgi, brother: I like that we can have good news too. (Smiles). You should have seen our Goga proudly going to training. When he comes back from there, he tells us everything with such enthusiasm! When our brother is so joyful, and we are all happy at home.

After meeting you, things slowly started to improve. I want to express my special gratitude to those who helped us to improve our living conditions and brought vital home appliances.

– Mari, did the local authorities respond after the publication of our post?

Mari: No, they did not. Assistance from the state consists of a social allowance - 460 GEL and Goga's disability pension - 250 GEL. This is not enough for us. I guess you know how much you need when you're raising five kids.

We were lucky only once: I wrote an application to the local government, and they gave us a decent amount of money. It was really unexpected and nice, of course.

“Well, doggie, do you like my new bed too?”

- Mari, the main problem has not been solved yet - Goga needs prosthetics. This is where the help of the friends of our Fund is needed, right? What other problems do you have?

Mari: Yes, sure. For my Goga to live a full life, he needs prosthetic hands. This is our dream for now. (She gets sad.)

Goga has epilepsy, and, probably, this problem will persist for the rest of his life. Thank God that for now we can buy medicine for him. The main thing is that there are no complications. We are helpless before any sudden expenses and do not know what to do when examinations and treatment are needed. Goga walks, hears, sees, he is a quick-witted boy, and nothing is more important to me.

My family will be grateful for everything. A warm word and any help are very important to us. We will accept any help that our family needs so much.
