Hurray!!! We’ve got new beds! 

“When night came, we didn't like going to bed, because our beds smelled of mold and sank. And our backs hurt in the morning. Now we have a bed like all children have,” Ani and Mariam, two little beauties, told me and dragged me to their new bed.

    And this is not the only joy that you, friends, brought to their home! Now they feel very good and know that miracles happen even to those who have no money!

“Now I’m gonna show you one more thing, our treasure! - David tells us. - I fuss over it! It’s cool! It’s brand new! We have never had a new thing. Can you imagine that? Now my sisters and I can attend on-line lessons and there is no more need to visit neighbors, begging them to let us study for 15 minutes. "

“I am grateful to all the friends of the Fund. I hoped that they would help us, but I didn’t expect that so many people would respond,” says Tsira with tears in her eyes. However, thanks to you, friends, in these tears there is also a share of happiness from the fact that her children sleep on new beds, study, eat at a clean new table and wake up in their own home, at least now.

- Tsira, how has your life changed after the article was published?

Tsira: The most important thing that has changed in our life is that my children can sleep peacefully in their soft beds all night. Our old beds were just terrible. I don't even know how old they were, but they already smelled of mold, and this smell was impossible to get rid of. Beds were very uncomfortable to sleep, children’s backs hurt every day, and I was worried that they might start having health problems. But now it’s all right.

Moreover, my kids can take on-line classes now. Earlier, my eldest daughter Ani had to go to our next-door neighbor’s place to study, while Mari - to another’s. We had to borrow their computers for classes. David, however, was left without any laptop or computer. I was worried that he would not get any education. All their lessons were held at the same time. Now our David can also study. He loves to study and hopes that when he grows up, he will go to university and help people. I hope that when all my children grow up, they will be as kind, as all those people who help us.

- Are there any well-wishers who you remember the most? Do you remember their names?

Tsira: Of course, this is Kakha. He read your post almost three months ago and responded to our requests. First he called me by phone indicated at the website, and since then he has been helping us every month. I don't know how to thank him. He is a kind-hearted man. Together with his colleagues, he saves a part of his salary and brings us groceries every month! This helps us a lot. He brings us food that we can’t afford: butter, buckwheat, pasta, even chickens and bread. This is enough for us for about two weeks. And he calls me every month, asking if I'm at home to bring us food. I could not even imagine that there are such angels among people! Thanks a lot! Thank you!

- Was there any feedback to our publication from the local authorities? Did they somehow react to our post?

Tsira: Actually, people from your fund called to the local government and they contacted me but could not help. You know, in order to finally buy back the apartment, it’s necessary to pay another 3800 dollars - the state cannot do this. The workers themselves will not let us live in the apartment, so I don't even know what to do in this situation. The bank granted us a delay until the end of this year - due to the pandemic, all loans were delayed, otherwise we would have found ourselves in the street long ago.

- What about your husband? Does he feel better?

Tsira: His condition is quite serious: three spinal hernias made him almost disabled. He had three spinal surgeries, but you can see in what condition is he. However, there is a slight progress after the treatment. He can sit a little longer, although he is prescribed bed rest. It is difficult for him to move and stand, but he does not give up. I cannot go to work, I cannot leave him to the children. Sometimes he has attacks, when one has to move him and make some manipulations - children cannot do it.

Before he got sick, he always used to work, taking any possible job, but now physical load is forbidden to him, he cannot lift even 1 kilogram. However, he does not give up for the sake of our children and me. In addition, it is getting colder now, and he started having permanent back pain, so he needs medications. But we try not to give up.

We even tried to obtain a disability status for him, since he cannot work at all, but they refused. Their answer was that since he can move his arms and legs, they cannot give him any disability status or allowance. So, we live on an allowance for low-income families - 500 GEL per month. It’s difficult to keep a family with this money.

- What does our support and help mean to you?

Tsira: If I just say that we are grateful, believe me, it will not express all our feelings. We have already lost hope and were completely alone in this world, but suddenly you appeared, and our life changed dramatically. I no longer hoped that such people - kind and cordial - still exited. But there are many such people in Georgia, and I am happy that my children are Georgians. I want to say special thanks to the Fund for their help. You let the world know about us, so now there is a hope that we will not get lost and will be able to get out of our difficult situation. Thank you that my children sleep warm now, that they have the opportunity to study at school and gain knowledge - this is the most important thing or me.

– Maybe you have some more problems that our readers can help you with? 

Tsira: You have already done a lot for us, I don't even know how to ask for more ... But I would like to once again address all people. We still have a housing problem. My husband cannot work, and I cannot leave the children alone with him, as he needs constant care. I would take on any job without hesitation, but I simply cannot, I have no opportunity to do this. We want to ask kind people: if you can, if you have a desire, please, take our pain to heart. I don't want my children to spend the winter in the street... Perhaps you can help us to get housing for the poor? I tried to contact social services, but I could not get any help from there. If any documents are necessary, I will collect all that is needed, I will do everything possible, if only there is hope of salvation and getting, at least a very small, but badly needed apartment...

- I hope we can still help you. I would like to ask some questions to your children now. David, do you like the new things?

David (9-year-old): I just love our computer! I worried all the time that I did not attend classes. And I really love to study, everyone attended lessons except me. How is it possible? You must always listen to the teacher, if you want to study well, but we did not have this opportunity. My sisters and I visited our neighbors and took turns listening to lessons. And now we can all study together, I am very happy about that. I want to grow up and do good, help the elderly people, because they cannot help themselves ... They are all alone, and I will help them.

- David, do you and your sisters fight over the computer?

David: Of course, not! How could we do that? We use it in turn, we will never fight over things. Mom says that we should love and respect each other, and always share everything. So, we will never fight.

- Ani, what are you most happy about?

Ani (13-year-old): I love everything! I like the bed where me and Mari sleep, we sleep very well there, we have no back pain any longer. I often help my mother to cook, so I was very happy with the kitchen table and chairs. We really needed them. Now, when I cut something, I can sit down and do everything like that. Well, the laptop was just our dream! It's super cool! I could not even imagine that we would have it! I am very happy with the gifts and our new friends!

Thank you, friends, that you were with this family, helped them to live these months a little easier than usual. Your help and support is very important for them, both moral and financial. The long-suffering Todua family really needs it.
