When I asked them: "Can you remember anything good?” - the girls just looked at each other and shrugged. They haven’t got a single bright memory in their life, though they are quite adults: Anna is 17 and Barbara is 16. They do not remember their mother, they can hardly remember their father, they only remember their grandmother. Old and sick ... She died in their arms. The only dear person. This is not a New Year's story, it will not make our hearts feel warm, and we cannot change the past of these sisters, but maybe we will be able to change their future ... Who knows, maybe miracles happen on Christmas Eve? The tragedy began when Anna’s and Barbara’s sister was born... Yes, you heard right. Their mother strangled the baby while feeding. “Probably by accident,” says Anna. “Maybe not,” adds Barbara. In 2006, their mother was sent to prison for 9 years. The girls have not seen her since.

“Yes, she was released, now she is free, she lives somewhere ... We don't know ... She didn't want to see us. To be honest, we don’t remember her.”

Their dad died in 2010. Did not manage to take it. “He cried all the time,” says Barbara. "I remember him that way."

Little girls were left alone with their grandmother. Their old grandmother got confined to bed. And the little girls learned to look after her. “It was better this way. We weren't alone. We had a loved one,” says Anna.

Three years ago, their grandmother died in their arms. The girls were left completely alone in an old ruined house. "We sheltered kittens, now we have at least someone alive nearby."

- Girls, let's talk about you. How do you live?

Anna (17 years old): Since I'm the eldest, I'll start. My sister and I were left alone. We have been living alone for 3 years. We don't remember our mom, and we hardly remember our dad ... They say that mom strangled our sister, but we don't believe it. Mom couldn’t do that. Could she?

  - Do you remember your grandmother well?

Anna: She was sick, she was old. She cried all the time. She used to say: "What will happen to you, little orphans, when I die?" Barbara and I looked after her. When she got really bad, we even stopped going to school. Then, when she died, our uncle became our guardian, but he also got sick. He had something wrong with his head, and they took him to hospital. So we were left alone again. Then they appointed another guardian for us ... She visited us rarely. Only our kind neighbor Izo takes care of us. She is the kindest woman, and when I grow up, I want to become like her!

  - What do you do in general?

Anna: Most of all we love to read books and watch TV, the TV series. Everything is so beautiful and good there. In the morning we wake up and eat whatever we have. If there is nothing, we go to our neighbor Izo. She warms us, she gives us tea and food. She is like a mother to us, she is very sweet. She teaches us how to do housework, how to clean, how to cook.

  - What are you and your sister dreaming about? Do you have any dreams?

Barbare (16 years old): We want to be happy.

  - What is happiness, Barbara?

Barbare: Happiness is... Happiness is when ... I don't even know...

  - When were you happy? Can you remember your happiest day?

Anna: I don’t remember ... Probably, we were very little then, and we don’t remember.

Barbare: It happened once in my life when I was very happy! It was my birthday. I had a cake! I real one! I'll show you a phot. Can you imagine? A real birthday cake!

  - Have you ever celebrated your birthday?

Anna: A birthday? Sometimes we didn't even know what day it was. Barbara’s is born on December 17, St. Barbara's Day, and our kindest neighbor, Izo, together with her daughter Tiko, brought us a cake! I've never been so happy!

  - Did you make a wish when you blew out your birthday candles?

Barbare: Yes! I wish to become like Mrs. Izo when I grow up! To be as kind as her and to please the children who don’t have parents, like she does!

  - Now tell me, what do you need first of all for your life to start changing for the better?

Anna: You know, we are already adults, we don't need toys and all sorts of trinkets. We really need a washing machine, a refrigerator, a gas stove. It would also be great if we had new beds. The beds we have are already falling apart. In one of them my grandmother died, and when I go to bed, I always remember it.

- Barbare, what are you dreaming about, dear?

Barbare: You know, my sister and I are very fond of watching movies... If only we could have a beautiful TV! And we really need phones. I know it won't work, but what if someone has a phone they don’t need and will give it to us?

Anna: Can I have one more wish?

  - Of course, girls. Do not hesitate, speak up.

Anna: I know many people will read our story! I want to give my regards and New Year's wishes to them. I want everyone to have moms and dads next to them! And if they don’t have any, I wish them to have people next to them who won’t let anybody offend them. And I want to confess my love to Mrs. Izo! She became almost like a mother to us!

Barbare: Yes Mrs. Izo, we love you! Thank you for everything! We love all good people too! Kind regards to the personnel of the Fund and to all readers!

That's the end of the New Year's story. But unfortunately, if we just listen to the story, then it will not bring any benefit, we need to act, and the sooner the better.Barbara and Anna really need our support, friends! They live in terrible poverty, in cold and hunger, but they do not stop believing in miracles and kindness of strangers! They don’t believe in Santa, they have never got gifts, they have never been happy, but they believe that someday happiness will knock on their door! Maybe you’ll bring happiness to the sisters? Because they need just a little to be happy: new beds, appliances for their empty home, food and clothes.

Barbara and Anna will be grateful for any help.

You can visit them in person and provide them with all possible help. Their address is: Tkibuli Municipality, village Dzmuisi. Phone: 595 76 80 98.
