It’s coming soon... - sighs Nino.

A holiday is a day when Nino's old parents once a month buy a little bit of cheese or chicken for their grandchildren Barbara and Goderdzi with their tiny pension. The twins asked grandparents for pennies to buy ice cream and sweets, but they saved these pennies to buy a gift for their mom. It did not work out, unfortunately, and they are disappointed...

This is how Nino, and her children live in poverty. Unfortunately, no one cares about them. Good people living in the neighborhood, who also have a difficult life are the only ones who support her, sharing their bread with her children.

A small shack with rotten furniture, cracks in the walls, a leaking ceiling... is not the worst thing. The worst thing is their empty fridge. And the eyes of the children who keep peeping into the fridge in the hope that something will suddenly appear there.

"We are in trouble: we cannot give mom a birthday present"

“Mom's birthday is coming soon; we have been saving money for a long time. We asked our granny to give us money for candy and ice cream but did not actually spend it. But we couldn't save up enough to buy gift for mommy anyway."

- What were you planning to buy?

  Barbare (7-year-old): A beautiful bracelet.

  Goderdzi (7-year-old): And nice shoes. Mom's shoes are ugly and torn.

Barbare: And a mole.

- Why a mole???

Goderdzi: She means a hamster, a silly girl!

  Barbare: You are silly... Do you know what he calls a parrot? An owl! How can they be confused?

"We will come up with wishes now, and you write it down"

  Nino: Stop, guys, you are tiring this lady. Let us talk for a while!

- Let me now talk to your mom, and then I will write down your wishes, okay?

  Barbare: OK, but don't forget that! I have a long list!

  Goderdzi: No, I have a long list. And you want a doll that pees! Ha ha ha!

- Nino, they are so mischievous! Perhaps you never get bored with them?

Nino: You are right! They are used to making noise, especially Goderdzi... He used to have heart problems from birth, and I spoiled him. He should not get nervous and overstrain himself. Even if he plays actively, he starts having shortness of breath.

“I am the strongest man, and nothing hurts me!”

  - Does he need treatment?

  Nino: Thanks God, there’s nothing serious. He just has to be examined annually. But I have no money to take him to doctor. What can I afford with 380 GEL per month? It’s enough to buy only the cheapest foodstuffs.

  Barbare: You know how kind my granny is? She gave us chicken. It was so delicious.

  Nino: If not for my parents, we would probably have starved to death. They are old and sick, their entire pension goes for medications, but once a month they pamper their grandchildren. Sometimes they bring chicken, sometimes they bring cheese. This day is a real holiday for us! And when we have no money at all, I ask for bread in a store... My neighbors are very kind, they know that by the end of the month I have nothing left from the allowance, and they invite my children for dinner. I think such good neighbors only exist in Georgia.

"Today my children have only dry meals again, there is only bread"

- Are you a single mother?

Nino: Yes. My husband left me, but he sometimes sends me some money for children. He had a bad temper; he offended our children a lot. It’s better to live alone then together with a monster. Of course, we live from hand to mouth.

  - Can’t you work?

Nino: Sometimes I get part-time job - cleaning houses or harvesting nuts. I can’t leave both children with my mom, so I take one of them with me.

  - Do they help you?

Nino: Well, they rather interfere, but there is no other way out.

“We found some strange toy, it looks like bicycle”

  Goderdzi: What are you talking about? I help you to collect and carry metalware. Now this lady will think that I am naughty and will not write down my wishes.

"I always fix something, and my mother says that I break everything and make noise."

  - Come on, let’s write everything down in my magic note-book right now.

  Goderdzi: Why is it magic?

- Look, how many notes are here! All these are children’s wishes. These have already come true, and that will come true soon, like yours. So, go ahead!

That’s how a real magic notebook for writing down wishes looks like, and not the way you imagined it.

  Goderdzi: Well, write it down. I will check later. I can read! A bed - the first of all I need a bed and a phone for my mom. The second - a watermelon, melon, sausage, butter and bicycle. Did you write everything down?

  - Yes, but your wishes are quite strange!

  Goderdzi: You haven’t heard the wishes of my sister yet - you will die laughing!

Barbare: You are so nasty! Now it’s my turn! Will you write it down right now or later?

“I wish about just two things”

- Let’s write it down right now. You said something about a peeing doll...

  Barbare: Can I have it? There is such a doll - you give her water, and she pees then, she’s so funny. But I also need beautiful shoes and an ice-cream. And may I also have a bed? And the blanket with the princesses for me, and another one with the Spiderman for my brother -  otherwise we won't be able to share it again and we'll start fighting.

Sometimes I offend my sister, but I will not let anyone else offend her”

- Do you often argue? What can’t you share?

  Barbare: We can’t share mom. We can’t share anything.

  Goderdzi: Mom is only mine, we already fought for her, and I won...

“Mommy is mine!” - “No, she’s only mine!”

  Nino: This lasts all day long...

- It’s you turn now, Nino! I will write down all your wishes in this notebook...

Nino: I can’t believe - my children are so happy! You already brought them joy only by coming here. I can imagine what would happen to them when at least one of their wishes will come true! I will start with the most necessary stuff - foodstuffs of course. We really need beds for children. A TV set would be a great gift as well, and also a bread-maker or an oven. We have no gas, so I bake bread by myself to save money. But it is so uncomfortable to light the wood stove every time, and the firewood is pretty expensive now. If I could also ask for clothes and shoes - it would be great.

How can children sleep on such a bed?

  - I made all the notes. We’ll tell that to all good Georgians and miracles will start happening in your life!

Another story full of hopelessness has come to an end. Who will notice this poor family? Who will take care of it? Now or later? That is the question.

The family needs everything: foodstuffs, hygiene products, a TV, an oven, clothes and shoes, beds for children. We believe that this story will reach the right people, we hope so! We have written down sincere wishes of these children in the Fund's magic note-book!
