Mishiko crawls on the floor and makes strange sounds… He is stopped by his 7-year-old brother Gela. He is afraid that Mishiko will hurt his hand again on the rotten and cracked floorboards. Mishiko screams louder and tries to crawl away from his brother, who is desperately trying to hold him back. They are alone at home. “Dad went to buy bread, and mom is in heaven,” says Gela.

Mishiko crawls on the floor and makes strange sounds…
He is stopped by his 7-year-old brother Gela.
Gela (7-year-old): I don’t know why she did that. Our sister was in her belly, she went to the hospital and never came back. Dad says she will never come back again. They say that once they are in heaven, they don’t come back. I remember Dad crying a lot and lying on the floor when Mom didn’t come. And he said, “EVERYTHING is over.”
In that gap, Mishiko scraped all his fingers
Tamaz: My Pikria died 5 years ago during childbirth. It is very hard to lose both your wife and child in one day. It would have been better if I had died, and she was alive. After her death, our life turned into a nightmare. Mishiko was 3 years old, Gela was 2. Their grandmother took them, but then brought them back to me. She is old and couldn’t cope with them. It’s hard to cope with a sick child. Mishiko has cerebral palsy. He cannot walk, cannot talk, and cannot say that he wants to go to the toilet…
Mishiko can only crawl and make sounds
– How do you cope?
Tamaz: At first, it was very hard. I cried along with my children. But then I realized that it’s not right, I have to be both mother and father for them. It’s so hard to live without a mother. I would gladly die instead of my wife, just so that the children would have a mother. I learned how to cook, how to do laundry… how to take care of my sick son, bathe them. But with each passing day, our life becomes unbearable. It’s as if everything died along with her.
“My mom was so beautiful, like an angel”
– What is your main problem?
Tamaz: If you look at how we live, you will understand. The roof is leaking, the floors are rotten from moisture and collapsing, the walls are crumbling. The children wear tattered clothes, they sleep on a broken bed. It’s cold and damp, and we can’t even tidy up our home properly.
– Is this your own house, or are you renting it?
Tamaz: It’s our own house, but it’s as if the house died along with my wife. The roof has collapsed. The house is crying too.
The roof is leaky, and when it rains, all the walls get wet
Gela (7 years old): When it rains, we have a big mop, and I run around the room wiping the water, otherwise Mishiko sits right in the puddle. Then we have to change him. We don’t have much clothing, so Dad wraps him in blankets. And he cries and cries. I don’t like the rain, but I dislike it even more when Mishiko cries.
“The mop is bigger than me, but when it rains at home, I use it to wipe the puddles, so Mishiko doesn’t get wet”
Mishiko can’t say why he’s crying or what’s bothering him
But when nothing hurts him, he can even smile
– Does he cry often?
Gela: Oh, all the time. Especially when his diaper gets dirty. He crawls around with that dirty diaper, and everything gets dirty around him. And he doesn’t want me to clean him up.
“Papa says that I am like a mother to my older brother”
– Can you bathe him too?
Gela: If Dad isn’t here, what else is left to do? Sometimes I call our neighbor, and she helps me.
Tamaz: Gela is a golden boy. I would never cope without him. He helps me a lot in coping with grief. When he sees me sad, crying, he comes running and hugs me. He tries to make me laugh.
“I taught him how to climb on his wheelchair”
“Then I roll him out onto the balcony, and we sit there, waiting for Dad”
“When Mishiko isn’t crying, he’s the best!”
– Tamaz, what bothers you the most right now?
Tamaz: The fate of Gela weighs heavily on my heart. He’s already 7 years old, but he doesn’t go to school. He doesn’t have any clothes or school supplies. And there’s no one to leave Mamuka with. But I know it can’t go on like this. The child needs school. Just like many other things. The child needs food, warmth, water… and we have none of those. We’re living like dogs.
Gela is already 7 years old, but he still can’t go to school. He doesn’t have any clothes or shoes
– What do you think could make your life and the life of your children easier?
Tamaz: If you help me repair the roof and fix the floors and walls, I will pray for you. The children need clothes and proper food. If it’s possible to set up a small bathroom – it will be great. I don’t need anything else… absolutely nothing. I’m dead inside, I don’t need anything. But I feel so sorry for the children. I pray for God to give me strength to keep going.
Georgian children shouldn’t sleep on such a bed!
“Every day, I promise myself that I won’t cry, but when I look at the children, tears just flow itself”
Friends, the Chernovetskyi Charity Fund is starting a charity campaign: to help Tamaz and his two children. As you know, the Fund never stops on ad-hoc help. Georgians should live like the proudest nation on earth – Georgians – deserve!
To survive, Tamaz and his two little angels are in urgent need of food and beds. It is critical to repair their home as it may rot, collapse, and endanger the lives of the children. We know this cannot replace their mother, but it will help them cope with the bitter loss. Help them to survive! Consider them as your relatives!
Please, cheer up this heroic father, support him, and let him know that he is not alone, and we will not abandon his beloved children in their time of need. It’s extremely important!
