Their parents won’t even make it to the hospital – they are seriously ill themselves! The children can still be saved, but expensive examinations and doctors are needed to learn about their illnesses, and all this requires money! But most importantly, what is needed is compassion! Together, we can help them! “Doll, cake, bed, and a block… lobio, table…” – little Mari repeats over and over, bending her fingers so as not to forget something. She’s not just asking for herself but also for her little sisters – they don’t know how to ask.
They are so unfortunate and defenseless that it makes my heart bleed! There is no one to take care of them but us, friends!

“I’m not just asking for myself… My sister can’t talk and has difficulty walking”
Their parents won’t even make it to the hospital – they are seriously ill themselves! The children can still be saved, but expensive examinations and doctors are needed to learn about their illnesses, and all this requires money! But most importantly, what is needed is compassion! Together, we can help them!
Shorena (mom): ‘I’m so afraid for my children.’
Corr.: What do the doctors say?
Shorena: What doctors? We can’t always feed the children and taking them to doctors is definitely out of our budget. My husband has severe headaches, sometimes he can’t even get out of bed. They said he needs a tomography… Are you kidding? What kind of tomography can a person afford in Georgia? Families like ours just want to survive hunger!
Corr.: There is so much truth in this woman’s words!
Corr.: What is wrong with you?
Shorena: I have epilepsy; I have seizures often. How can I lead the children anywhere? I will definitely collapse on the way! And what if I have this little one in my arms?”She will remain disabled for life…”
“Will remain disabled for life…”
Shorena: This is my eldest one. Madonna!
“Madonna, at the age of 7, cannot talk”
Today they simply cannot talk, tomorrow they won’t be able to walk, and what will happen the day after? – Death, eternal madness, or severe disability?
“Our beds are falling apart, aunt. You can fall off them at night and break something important”
– What do you live on?
Shorena: We receive allowance and disability pension. My husband also works. Within social program he cleans cemeteries when he can. Before that, he used to search through dumps and garbage bins, collecting scrap metal, and that’s how we survived. I also clean up when someone needs help. We are not lazy, although I’m sick too.
– And what’s wrong with you?
Shorena: I have epilepsy; I have seizures often. Several times a month. I’m afraid I might collapse on the fire and burn alive. What if I have a child in my arms?
– Oh my God! So, everyone in your family is sick?
Shorena: Well, I don’t know, the children don’t talk, Madonna walks poorly, so does Eteri… But they don’t seem to have any pain.
– Shorena, I believe a specialist should examine the children and prescribe treatment.
Shorena: Are there medications for children who don’t talk? I took Mari to a speech therapist. She said Mari is a good girl, and continuing with the sessions will help her speak well. But the state doesn’t fund it, and we don’t have the money.
– But the children definitely need help! This could develop into a significant problem over time!
Shorena: Maybe you’re right, but when your thoughts are only focused on what to feed them, it’s challenging to contemplate the future.
– What else do you need besides food?
Shorena: Look at what the children sleep on… It’s not even beds, just some planks. Probably, prisoners sleep better in jail. We also don’t have any appliances at home. There used to be an old TV that brought joy, but it broke. No washing machine, no refrigerator…
Mari: I don’t have a table and a chair… And no bed. No pencil and paper to draw! And I also need an opa-opa…
– Let me guess, is that a jump rope?
Mari: No-o-o, it’s an opa-a-a, you have to sit on it!
Shorena: She calls it a swing…
Mari: And I also need a pillow, and a doll, and a cake, and lobio… and dresses… and a table, and opa-opa, and a bed, and a pillow…
– I’ve remembered everything, Mari. I won’t forget anything!
Mari: But I keep forgetting everything. That’s why when Mom said someone would come to help us, I was so happy and kept repeating what I would ask for. I repeated it all day so I wouldn’t forget…
– I’ve remembered everything you said. You and your sisters need beds, pillows, and blankets…
Mari: Yes! Just warm ones… We also need a table, pencils, and sketchbooks. And also… dresses, and cake, and toys.
– And Mom needs a washing machine, and she asked for a TV for you. And all of you need is to go to the doctor! Aren’t you scared of doctors?
Mari: No, probably not. Will they scare us?
– No, of course not. They will treat you and help your sister learn to talk.
Mari: You are such a kind girl! And you probably know many other kind girls. I’ll be waiting for you!
Save the children! If something happens to them, we won’t be able to forgive ourselves.
Mari and her little sisters – 7-year-old Madonna and 2-year-old Eteri – urgently need a doctor’s consultation. The girls need to be taken for examinations, we must buy them beds, educational toys, warm clothing, and drawing sets. They also need a television.
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Zestaponi Municipality, village Kvaliti.
