The worst part is that the children suffer here! They not only breathe air poisoned by mold but also endure the air of disdain among their peers and certain teachers at school!
The destiny of these twin girls and their five brothers and sisters weighs heavily upon them – living in poverty and facing a future without prospects!
“They make me feel ashamed because I don’t have a computer”
Shorena (the mother) How can I explain to the teacher that I can’t afford to buy a computer for my child? That I will never be able to save up for one in my lifetime? And she says, “Everyone managed to do it, so can you.” It’s so cruel! When you don’t have money, everyone looks down on you, doesn’t consider you a human being…
Nino (13-year-old): Many children tease us, flaunting their new things and giggling. And we have nothing. Absolutely nothing. Just recently, we all had a fever, and my mom couldn’t even afford to buy us medicine.
Corr: “Join us, friends! We’re starting the tour, please take a sedative and see how people live!”
This is the kitchen and bathroom at the same time. This is where the family cooks dinner and bathes. Yes, you heard that right. Nine people bathe right on the earthen floor in a basin.
The windows have no glass and are covered with old clothes, tarps, and cellophane.
– Shorena, from the moment I entered your house, I had only one thought: how do you live here?
Shorena: If you can call it living… We’re just trying not to die here. Holding on as long as we can. But our strength is running out. Everything went haywire after my husband’s death.
– My condolences to you. What did he die from?
Shorena: Kakhaber was a very good person. He tried to do everything for the family. He worked day and night, and we somehow managed to survive. He worked hard, but the children never went hungry. The hard work made him sick! But they never told us what he died from.
“The wallpaper is peeling off due to dampness and mold, and the walls smell terrible.”
– Well, I can only imagine how challenging it must be for you right now with seven children and an elderly mother-in-law…
Shorena: Feeding seven children on allowance is not easy.
“This is our kitchen. Today, we’re having potato soup for lunch.”
“There aren’t enough beds for everyone. Two people sleep in each bed. And the beds are on the verge of falling apart.”
– Shorena, the Chernovetskyi Fund and its friends stand by you! It’s good that you reached out to us! Our friends aren’t just ordinary people; they’re sent by the Lord Himself! And as soon as they hear about you, many will come to help! Because our country is Georgia! We are one family! Otherwise, none of us will survive! Because anything can happen in life…
Luka (11-year-old): Mom only buys tasteless food. ” I ask her to buy candy, and she says “No!” I dream that when I grow up, I’ll buy five kilos of candy and eat it all myself!
Anna- Maria (9-year-old): You’ll burst! One must share. If I had five kilos of candy, I would share it with everyone. Even with mom and grandma. And I would take a little to school. I would even give some to those girls who bully us.
“After dad died, we didn’t have any tasty food.”
Anastasia (9-year-old): Who needs our candies at school anyway? Not everyone is as poor as we are. We have nothing, and they have everything!
– What do you mean by everything?
Anastasia: Well, what do you think? It’s when you have everything you dream of. Not just candies, but also a phone, a tablet, a TV, beautiful dresses, and toys…
Anna-Maria: And a bike, a bed, and shoes…
Anastasia: And beautiful walls, not this mess…
“I dream of a house with beautiful walls.”
– Your walls are terrible, indeed!
Shorena: I wonder how we haven’t gone crazy in this swamp. Everything is damp, the children breathe mold. We only have two rooms where we can stay; the rest are just dangerous for living. There’s only one intact window in the house, and even that was given to us by a priest. We stuff old useless things into the window frames. We hang blankets on the doors… Sometimes I regret giving birth to seven children for Georgia! Maybe it would have been better if they hadn’t been born? Not everyone is lucky with parents. They likely view us as outcasts of society. Because people don’t live like this… Not even animals live like this.
Luka: Don’t say such silly things! You are the best mother, just penniless. Don’t cry! I was joking about you buying tasteless food! And I don’t want candy! Or a bike!
– Since I’m here, you all have to tell me what you dream about! But first, Shorena, tell me: what can we do for your family to help improve your situation?
Shorena: I don’t even know if that’s possible. I have one request – I want to finish what my husband started. He began building walls for the kitchen and bathroom. He bought several blocks with each paycheck, but fate took him away from us.
“When it’s cold and windy, we came up with a trick: we drape a blanket over the door to close it. It reduces the draft, but then two people have to sleep under one blanket.”
– You definitely need a bathroom! I can hardly imagine how you manage to bathe here, all nine of you!
Shorena: It’s not called bathing – we’re simply struggling, creating a swamp. And this room also serves as our kitchen. Gas wasn’t installed for us because the wall isn’t finished, so I keep struggling with a half-dead stove on a gas cylinder. Cooking lunch for nine people is so challenging!
In this house, where everything turns to dust and mold, Shorena does her best to keep things clean and cozy with her love and care. But unfortunately, the children won’t be full with this.
– You also need beds What the girls showed me is just a disaster!
Shorena: Yeah, and let’s not forget we sleep two to a bed. We’re afraid they might fall apart under us. Because of the dampness, we’ve got no blankets or pillows left; they’ve just rotted away. We don’t even have a wardrobe for our clothes. No table and chairs either. One of the desks that was going to be thrown away, we brought from school, and we take turns eating on it. God, the more I tell you, the more I feel sorry for my children! What tortures I have condemned them to! God forgive me!
– Shorena, the Chernovetskyi Fund won’t leave you! It’s great that you reached out to us! Our friends will come to help you!
Shorena: Now our only hope is for a miracle, for the mercy of the heavens. I’ve stopped believing in people’s kindness, but your actions are a beacon of hope for many unfortunate and deprived families. Perhaps happiness will find its home with us too!
The Lomidze family thirsts for light in this darkness. Each day is a trial for them, each night a plea for help. But those around them only fleetingly pay attention to their suffering. Sometimes, they even smirk at them. Their plea for help is a cry of the soul, heard only by those who listen with their hearts! We must save these orphans; we must save the family from certain demise because, besides us, there is no one else to do it!
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Khashuri municipality, village Kemperi
