Karina: “These are the exercises I do with my daughter every day. It’s our entire treatment! Sometimes, we don’t even have enough money for food! And I’m walking around in torn shoes myself!”
“The problem is, I often suffer from terrible headaches too! But going for a consultation – there’s no money for that! And then I’m helpless… And my heart aches for my child!”
How far is a mother willing to go for the health of her child? What sacrifices is she ready to make? How many days can she go without food, and how many years can she wear the same torn shoes, just to ensure her only joy isn’t deprived? And how long can she ignore her excruciating headaches that are killing her?
“My daughter is my whole world. I have no one but her and we’re alone in this entire world! How we manage to survive – I don’t know. But perhaps God loves my Juliette and won’t leave us.”

“I believe,” Karina, Juliette’s mom, tells me, a correspondent for the Fund, “that one day, by God’s grace, my daughter will take steps on her own! That’s why you’re here to help us!”
– Have you been living alone for a long time? How did you end up alone?
Karina: We’ve been completely alone for over a year. My husband left us. One morning, he just walked out without even saying goodbye!
Juliette (12 years old): “My mom often has really bad headaches, and I can’t even bring her water. I definitely need to learn to walk.”
“Right now, my mom takes care of me, and later I’ll take care of her.”
“When my mom is around, I’m not afraid of anything!”
– Why do you think your mom gets headaches?
Juliette (12 years old): Because she never goes to the doctor. She takes me, but she doesn’t go herself. She wants everything for me. But she doesn’t have any money for herself!
– Maybe all moms are like that?
Julietta: No, my mom is special! I love her so much!”
Julietta: “I want only good people around me, and let the bad ones be friends with other bad ones.”
“I think I’m a pretty girl. What do you think?”
– What does “good people” mean?
Julietta: Well, it’s when they don’t laugh at me because I can’t walk like they do.
– Then explain what “bad” means. What are they like?
Julietta: They’re the ones who always try to hurt others. For example, if someone said to me: “Eww, what’s wrong with you?!” – he would be bad, and I would know not to be friends with them. They’re mean and very ugly. And you know what? They don’t love anyone! Don’t be friends with them (gives me a goodbye advice).
Tomorrow, I’ll draw you a beautiful red heart and send it to you right to the Fund! It will bring you and all your friends lots of happiness!!
– You’re very wise! Some people grow up and can’t understand others…
Julietta: That’s because God loves me!
– Karina, what can we do for the girl that God loves so much?
Karina: I only ask you for one thing, I don’t need anything else besides covering the cost of the rehabilitation course. My daughter must walk, and she will. Maybe not quickly, maybe with difficulty, maybe with the help of a cane, but she will. Will you help her?
– Also, I think you need to get yourself checked out. Enduring headaches is not acceptable; they can lead to irreversible consequences.
Karina: Oh, no! I’m not asking for anything for myself, and we’ll cope with groceries ourselves. I’ll go hungry in torn clothes – all just for Julietta!
– Julietta, since your mom isn’t saying anything, can you tell us what you need at home?
Julietta: I want my mom to be taken to the doctor, and I want there to be delicious groceries at home – lots and lots of yogurts, for instance. I love them. But they’re very expensive. We also need a television. Everything else, we have it all here. I also have a big dream! A very big one. But I don’t know how achievable it is…
“I just want to learn to walk… Help me.”
– Let me guess… You probably want a tablet?
Julietta: Wow! How did you guess? How intuitive you are! I don’t just want a tablet, I dream about it, I fantasize… Or how do you say it correctly? If I have a tablet, I’ll be very happy!
The story of mom Karina and her daughter Julietta is a tale of incredible love, strength, and sacrifice. A mother is willing to do anything to provide her child with the best life possible, despite all the hardships they face. Julietta, despite her physical limitations, possesses boundless strength of spirit and a desire to live life to the fullest. But this cheerful and warm-hearted girl is weighed down by everyday challenges that she and her mom cannot manage alone.
Let’s draw closer to God through kind deeds. As it’s said in the Bible, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40). Remember, together we can make the world a better place. Let’s act together and give hope to those who need it most.
