Mariam miraculously survived a horrific car accident. It was a fateful taxi ride, and another car crashed into theirs at high speed. Two people died on the spot, and doctors can say they pieced the young woman back together. Most of her vital organs were damaged, and she had to have her spleen and gallbladder removed. Look at these horrific photos from the accident scene! Mariam says she is under God’s protection—how else could she have survived? But another blow awaited her: doctors discovered tumors in Mariam’s spleen. She endures excruciating pain that worsens every day, yet she holds back her tears. The family lives in extreme poverty, relying solely on social allowance. There is no money for medications or exams.

Lika (16 years old): “We haven’t had any food in the house for over two weeks. We drink plain tea. We don’t even have a gas stove to warm water, so every time, we have to ask neighbors for a gas bottle. Can you imagine what this means for my sick mother? She can’t starve! I love my mom so much, and I don’t want her to die too soon. Please, Mom, don’t die! Help me save her!”
Lika: “I constantly have headaches, and my nose bleeds. Even at night, I wake up from terrible pain and nonstop bleeding. But my mother can’t afford to get me checked. What can we do with just 150 lari of social allowance and 100 lari of my orphan’s pension? I don’t have any clothes, shoes, or a backpack for school. I carry my books and notebooks to school in my hands. I don’t have a computer or a phone.”
But giving up isn’t an option! Mariam understands that life is worth fighting for, no matter how desperate the battle.
Mariam (36 years old): “It was hard raising two children alone after my husband died. None of his relatives ever checked on us. Now we don’t even have bread, and our stomachs ache from hunger. What medicines can we talk about when you need to eat before taking pills, but we don’t even have food…?”
Mariam: “When I feel a bit better, I work on farms, harvesting corn. My daughter helps me. She misses school because of it.”
Lika: “I feel so sorry for my mom; she has no strength left. I have to work for both of us. Of course, it’s hard for me. But I’m grown up now, and I will always help my mom. I have no one else.”
Mariam: “The state provided us with this apartment in a military settlement in Senaki, as refugees from Abkhazia. But two years ago, after my mother passed away, I had to take out a loan using our home as collateral. But I can’t pay the interest. In two years, our bank debt has grown to 7,000 lari. Soon, my daughter and I will be homeless. Lord, help us through these hardships!”
Lika: “It is very cold in our home, and we don’t have a heater. No matter how much we bundle up, we can’t stay warm. We often get sick, but there’s no money even for fever medicine. And we don’t have a washing machine, so we wash clothes by hand in cold water.”
***
Every day, Mariam prays to God for healing. After a year of struggling, the money for treatment has run out. But friends, there’s still hope in you. Even a small donation could ease the suffering of a mother and her child. Without our compassion, there will be no miracle. We ask everyone—please, help Mariam and her daughter to live!”
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Senaki, Military Settlement, Building 198.
