Let’s help get Mate from Khelvachauri to a clinic in Tbilisi. It will take a lot of money, but if we, the people of Georgia, unite—we can save the life of 7-year-old Mate. The memory of that terrifying night has never left poor Ketevan. Even today, when she sees a man, she begins to scream and tremble with fear. At that time, in Georgia, it was not customary to speak openly about such things. Only recently did Ketevan’s loving sister break a 41-year silence and decide to share the story of the sexual violence with the Chernovetskyi Fund’s community. On behalf of the Fund, we sincerely thank Ms. Nana for her trust and courage. Friends, just imagine the cruelty of the local authorities: Nana, the sister of a rape victim, reached out for help – and no one responded. Let’s hope the official who turned her away never finds himself in a similar situation… or worse, that we’ll have to help him one day too. Shameful. But we won’t beg. We will get Ketevan a wheelchair – and not just any wheelchair, the very best. As for the one who refused to help – well, only time will tell.

Due to severe stress, Mzia developed diabetes. She needs a special diet, but for a poor pensioner, that’s an impossible luxury. These days, she relies on a free social canteen for food. She also suffers from high blood pressure. Grandma Mzia is very shy about asking for help, though she needs so little. This winter, she froze in her apartment – her old heater broke, and she didn’t have the money to replace it. Can we really turn away from this kind and gentle woman? We are her only hope. Otari has been lying unconscious for six long months. The fact that his heart is still beating is nothing short of a miracle – doctors gave him less than a 1% chance of survival. It all started when a tired man, after a long day of work, drifted off to sleep. During the night, he suffered a massive brain hemorrhage. His brain was starved of oxygen, and Otari fell into a coma—from which he has not woken since. Every time you can help someone, just do it, and rejoice that the Lord has turned your heart toward someone else’s sorrow. That He is answering their prayers through you. That means you are chosen. May you always be blessed. And please—keep remembering those who suffer. Go visit them. That’s where you’ll discover your true worth – as a true Georgian, a great human being, just as the Lord created us to be.

People used to mock Mariam, calling her “crippled.” She can barely drag her feet. She falls constantly and can’t get up without someone’s help. God, what a torment! She needs rehabilitation and massage therapy to ease her suffering, but her family doesn’t even have enough money for food. You will cry when you see the conditions Mariam lives in. There’s no comfort in the house. A rusty metal container serves as a bathroom. She bathes in a basin, often slips and falls. And you can imagine what every fall means for her fragile body. Even to wash her hands, she has to go outside to a faucet. And bending over is nearly impossible for her. 

This is the Gurashvili family, a large family living in unbearable poverty in an old wooden shack. The windows are broken, the walls are cracked, and rain leaks through the ceiling. And what’s worse – the family doesn’t even own this awful shack. A kind man, who currently lives abroad, allowed them to stay there temporarily. But soon, he will return to Georgia – and he has nowhere else to go except this shack. That means the Gurashvili family, along with their three young children, will have to leave. But where will they go? They have nowhere to go. Will these little angels be left with nothing but the sky over their heads? Dear friends of the Fund, as I left the Gurashvili family, the sorrowful yet hopeful eyes of the three little angels who stood at the gate stayed with me the whole way from Kakheti to Tbilisi. These children have no one else to rely on but you. Please, let their faith in your kindness be rewarded. Let’s try – together – to heal the broken hearts of our little brothers.

Luka has stage four cancer. Such a terrible tragedy! He is only three years old. But the Lord has given us a chance to help bring his life back — because life is so beautiful! This family has only one child – 16-year-old Tornike. At the age of 13, without his parents knowing, he began playing a dangerous online game. The consequences were devastating – Tornike developed a severe psychological disorder that now threatens his life. There’s still hope. Meet the Papuashvili family from the village of Gomi in the Khashuri Municipality – one of the many vulnerable families we support. Can you imagine a household with two small children having absolutely nothing? No beds, no refrigerator, no washing machine, no gas stove, no television. Even the house they live in is rented. The roof leaks so badly that when it rains, water pours inside just like it does outside. They pay 300 GEL a month for this shelter – almost half of their entire social allowance. At the Fund, we believe these girls will grow up and do great things for our beloved Georgia. They will raise strong sons for this country – and most importantly, they will never forget your kindness. We’re certain that help will come to this struggling home very soon. And right now, they need it more than ever. The children are waiting for your support. Think back – how many kind things have you done lately? Gio suffers from severe scoliosis. His spine is twisted at a 90-degree angle. The curve has created a large hump that presses so hard on his lungs, doctors are amazed he can breathe at all. Thirty-eight-year-old Anna walks with her son every day and evening in that same rusted wheelchair – with no back support. Her heart breaks knowing she can’t afford a proper wheelchair. Her husband left seven years ago and has never once asked about his son’s condition.

Anna, 38 (Mate’s mom): Our only income is 200 lari of social allowance and 425 lari of Mate’s disability pension. What should I spend it on – food, diapers, medicine, or rehabilitation?” I can’t even afford buying a decent wheelchair with back support for my son.

Mate can barely move by this rusty and falling apart wheelchair… How can the local authorities watch this child suffer and do nothing? Why did they take those jobs – just to collect a paycheck?

A natural-born beauty. But this poor child is afraid to look in the mirror, because her severe anemia has left her deathly pale.

This is Mariam’s sister, 10-year-old Ani. When she told our Funf’s reporter about her only sister’s illness, tears burst from her sea-colored eyes.

Ani (10-year-old): “My sister loses consciousness and collapses. In those moments, I think she’s died, and I scream so loudly that I’m sure all of Samegrelo can hear me… Please, kind people, help us! Don’t leave us alone… I will pray for you, for your children and your parents for the rest of my life.
If something happens to Mariam, I can’t imagine living without her.
I want to make her happy somehow, but I don’t have any money for a gift. So, I pick these flowers for her and weave them into a ‘royal crown’ with my own hands.”

Anastasia’s father acted worse than a wild animal – he abandoned the mother and two very young children. He walked away without offering any help or support. It’s hard to understand how the earth bears people like that. And now, this poor young mother is alone in this cruel battle.

Even animals don’t behave like this. Anastasia’s mother, 24-year-old Milana, is struggling to raise three little children on her own. She is desperate – begging on her knees for someone to help save her daughter. Little Anastasia’s life is now in your hands. All of Georgia must come together and stand against the cruel fate that has been chasing this angel of a child since the moment she was born.

Anastasia is fighting for her life. She spent 45 days in the hospital, and the doctors had almost no hope she would survive.

Her son, Pridon, is 60 years old. He has insulin-dependent diabetes, during his service in the Army he suffered serious brain damage. He mostly gets around in a wheelchair! Sometimes he tries to walk, but it’s quite hard for him. His speech is slurred. And what’s hardest to bear – he sometimes becomes severely aggressive. He’s a Group 2 disabled person, and he likely doesn’t realize that around his mother, not only should he never raise his voice – he should barely even breathe. If something happens to his mother, his life will end in an instant. Because his 85-year-old mother suffers from atrial fibrillation and dangerously high blood pressure.

They live in heartbreaking poverty, in complete disrepair, inside a rusty old train carriage. There’s no one to help them but us, friends.

Dear friends, whether you have medical training or not, from now on we’re going to call you the biggest team of rehabilitation specialists out there. You brought Marina back from the brink by purchasing her a 10-liter oxygen concentrator – and breathing air back into her lungs. You have compassion and humanity—qualities that, sadly, government officials seem to lack. And here’s more good news: Marina’s oxygen saturation level is now 97%! That’s an amazing result! We thank you for your swift help in saving her life. For the first time in a long while, Marina—supported by her daughter – can get out of bed. She now has a special medical bed: high, wide, and with an adjustable backrest. It’s much easier for her to breathe while lying with her head elevated. You even helped prevent bedsores by sending her a special anti-decubitus mattress.

Dear readers, how many people do you know in Georgia who have lost their only child, become widows, lost a leg, and are now homeless? This poor woman has no one left but a cat. If even the cat won’t leave her side, then how can we, as human beings, not stretch out a helping hand to someone in such deep trouble? If we could just build a small ramp beside the staircase, Nana’s suffering would ease. She could use her wheelchair to get outside, sit in the sun, and breathe the fresh morning air. But for now, she is trapped in her dark room because she physically can’t get down the stairs.

None of us knows what tomorrow will bring. Life works like a boomerang: what we give is what we get. The day will come when we all stand before the Lord. What answer will we give? How will we justify ourselves? You don’t need to be rich to extend a helping hand to someone in despair. All you need is a kind heart.

The young mother of two can’t take a single step, even with the help of a cane — the poor woman drags her legs behind her. Her little angels, who themselves can barely move and suffer terrible pain, try to help their mother get around. Blessed be the strength and love of motherhood. The truth is a pathological illness that causes paralysis of the lower limbs settled in the Bichiasvili family half a century ago. Everyone in Tsnori knows about this “incurable” disease that passes from generation to generation, unstoppable by anything. Has a demon really taken root in the Bichiasvili family?

This angelic little girl is now the third generation to be afflicted by this terrible disease. Just one glance into her eyes is enough to tear your soul apart with pity.

In just a few days, Anri is scheduled to undergo a kidney transplant abroad. His own kidney can no longer be saved, and he desperately needs a healthy donor kidney! The Ministry of Health has funded the surgery, but the heartbreaking reality is that his parents can’t afford the dialysis that his life now depends on.

One dialysis session abroad costs $200 and needs to be done three times a week.  According to doctors, the total amount needed is $3,400. We cannot lose Anri just because the money wasn’t raised in time. Every minute counts toward his fate!

Weakness, dizziness, unbearable pain that makes him want to scream… How does his frail, exhausted, pale body even endure all of this?

Three seriously ill brothers are collecting scrap metal to avoid starving to death! They urgently need food and medicine! They will die without our help, without any exaggeration! Nino, mother (55 years old): “We hand over scrap metal, sometimes they give us 3 lari for it, sometimes 20. You know how offensive it is when children ask for food, but are unable to understand due to illness why I sometimes don’t even give them a piece of stale bread! It’s offensive to the point of tears!” These are 17-year-old twins Niya and Nikoloz. The boy was born in a sitting position, the birth was very difficult, the child was taken out with forceps. Due to oxygen starvation, Nikoloz suffered brain damage.  Poor, poor Nikoloz! The boy doesn’t speak and can’t do anything on his own. His mother has been looking after him like a baby for 17 years. But the worst thing is that she has two more of these “grown-up babies”! Shotiko suffers from asthma attacks. He had meningitis as a child. He doesn’t speak, just one word: “mom.” He communicates with his family using gestures.
