Cases of fraudulent activity by so-called “charitable foundations” are on the rise in Georgia. Disguised as legitimate non-profits, these organizations embezzle funds collected for the treatment of critically ill and terminally ill children. In essence, they are committing acts that cost lives. Deceived families lose precious time – time that can mean the difference between life and death for their loved ones. These are not minor offenses: they constitute both financial fraud and attempted murder. And yet, we are convinced that not a single criminal case will be opened by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Even though such schemes clearly qualify as serious crimes, the Ministry does not even have a dedicated unit to investigate them. One of the victims was four-year-old Guram. One such fraudulent foundation tricked his family into handing over 13,000 GEL, supposedly to cover the cost of sending their child to France for treatment and to process the required documentation. They were told the foundation’s collected funds were insufficient, and additional money was needed. The poor mother, holding her sick son in her arms and waiting hopefully at the airport for their flight to France, eventually learned the heartbreaking truth: it had all been a carefully orchestrated scam, carried out by fraudsters operating under the guise of charity. After the mother handed the money – borrowed from the bank in a desperate attempt to save her child – to one of the scammers, the family was left penniless, unable even to buy food for their son. Meanwhile, Guram’s condition has worsened. And now, saving his life is far more difficult than it could have been. People of faith and compassion – let us restore hope to this grieving mother, deceived by heartless fraudsters. Let us come together and save little Guramiko.

Shortly after birth, little Guramiko was diagnosed with a severe condition – hydrocephalus. This means that an excessive amount of cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside his skull. His brain ventricles are enlarged, while the brain tissue is thinning. All of this turns the child’s life into a daily nightmare.
Guramiko cannot talk, cannot walk – and perhaps most heartbreaking of all, he cannot even sit. During his frequent seizures, he hovers between life and death.
His legs are so severely deformed that even putting shoes on him is impossible.
His father takes care of bathing him. He is ready to do anything for his son, even give his own life.
He cannot go to work during the day, because his wife, 24-year-old Salome, underwent spinal surgery and is forbidden from lifting any weight. Meanwhile, Guramiko suffers seizures daily, and in those moments, someone must quickly lift him from the bed and perform necessary procedures. Salome cannot manage this alone – she needs her husband’s help.
In Zugdidi, Guramiko’s father is known as an honest, decent, and deeply respectable man.
Once again – during his seizures, Guramiko is on the verge of death.
And here is his little sister, one-year-old Liza.
Her porridge has run out.
She cries from hunger. It’s more than frightening – it’s unbearable.
Their old grandfather is waiting for his pension to buy porridge for Liza, and diapers for Guramiko.
The old man’s final years have become a time of suffering.
Every day, Guramiko’s mother falls to her knees in front of the icons, begging God to spare her child’s life.
Salome, Guram’s mom: Kind-hearted people, I’m placing all my hopes in you! Please help save our little Guramiko! I will remember every person who donates – even a single tetri – for my son. I will pray for each and every one of you.”
Salome: “Call me ‘Mommy,’ I beg you. I’m ready to die, Guramiko, if only I could hear that one word from you…”
“I’m only 24 years old, but I feel like the most miserable mother in the world. Yes, I truly feel like no one could be more wretched than I am.”
Each month, the child’s treatment costs about 1,000 GEL. Doctors in Georgia were unable to help. Even worse, several years ago they told the mother that surgery could be performed when Gurami turned seven. Now they say it’s too late… My God, we are talking about a child’s life! How can doctors simply guess at such things? That’s not just negligence – it’s a crime, and it must be punished.
What has this poor child done to deserve this? First, a woman pretending to represent a charity stole the money meant for his treatment, and now even the doctors contradict themselves.
After the scammer took the 13,000 GEL- which the family had borrowed from the bank in a desperate bid to save their son – they were left with nothing. Not even enough to buy food for the boy. And all the while, little Guram’s condition began to deteriorate.
Khvicha, Guram’s father: “We transferred the 13,000 GEL and went to the airport. But by then, the woman had already vanished. We were left standing there with our gravely ill child, and I could barely breathe through the tears of pain and bitterness. How could anyone steal money meant to save a dying child? Does she not fear God? But what I also want to know is – where is the state? Why are these scammers allowed to act in the name of charitable foundations and steal funds meant for terminally ill children? There are other so-called ‘foundations’ in Georgia that operate in the same deceitful way. The only organization I trust blindly is the Chernovetskyi Fund. Yes, I entrust my child’s life to you and your loyal supporters. May God bless you for all the good you do!”
People of faith and compassion, you understand this better than anyone: Guramiko must be taken abroad as soon as possible – before it’s too late. There is still a real chance that this sweet-eyed boy might one day walk and talk. But time is running out. If we don’t act now, it may be too late – delayed treatment or surgery won’t be enough. Let’s help this child -together. He cannot talk, but his eyes are pleading with us for help.
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Zugdidi, Chikobava Str.
Every time you can help someone, just do it, and rejoice that the Lord has turned your heart toward someone else’s sorrow. That means you are chosen! May you always be blessed. And we kindly ask you: please don’t forget about those who suffer – about the lonely and the unfortunate. Visit them whenever you can. It is in those moments of kindness and compassion that your true worth and greatness shine through — the very qualities that define a true Georgian, the noble traits bestowed upon us by the Almighty.
