Lord, forgive us, sinners, for sometimes failing to appreciate what we already have, and for always wanting more… Forgive us, Father! What an incredible blessing it is that You led us to one of the most unfortunate women in the world – and even gave us the strength and means to help her!

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!

Manana (65-year-old): “Until I was eleven, I crawled on the ground, scraping my hands and knees raw. They laughed at me, called me stupid and uneducated – because I never went to school. I don’t even know how I survived it all. In my old age, a bad surgery took away my ability to walk. I asked the local authorities for a powered wheelchair, but they refused, saying those are only given to people who can’t use their arms. I’ve been left completely alone, kind people… I’m starving, and I have no one to help me…”

When the Fund’s journalist arrived at her door, Grandma Manana broke down in tears. She cries day and night – from pain, from helplessness, from the injustice of doctors who robbed her of her health and her ability to walk. Friends, this tragedy affects us all! Because what happened to her… could happen to anyone.

Manana: “After a botched hip surgery, I can no longer walk. At home, I move around by pushing myself on a low stool, dragging my legs behind me. I often fall – and then lie on the floor for hours, because there’s no one to help me up. I live alone. People tell me to go to a nursing home – but I don’t want that.”

Manana: “There was a time I could walk with crutches. But now I can’t take a single step. How can the surgeon who did this to me sleep at night? For some doctors, the Hippocratic Oath means nothing anymore.”

Manana: “I was born with a dislocated hip. The midwife simply pulled me out of my mother by the legs…”

— Does anyone help you?

Manana: I have five siblings, but they all moved away with their own families. I stayed behind, in our parents’ house. (She cries.) My pension isn’t enough for food or medicine – I often go hungry. The neighbors don’t visit me. They don’t even care if I’m alive. No one cares about a poor, sick old woman. When you came today, my dear, I was so happy. It means someone still cares. I want to believe that’s true!

– Have you ever been married?

Manana: No, unfortunately. I never had a family of my own. I never experienced the joy of motherhood. When I was younger, a good man wanted to marry me, but I turned him down. I regret it now. There’s nothing worse than loneliness.” (She cries.)

Manana: “My back is hunched, scoliosis has twisted me. My spine is so curved that I struggle to breathe.”

Manana: “I am completely helpless. I can’t even cook for myself. I don’t have a fridge – so food spoils quickly. I don’t have a washing machine. I use a chamber pot instead of a toilet, and wet wipes instead of a shower. Is this what life is supposed to be? My dream is to take a proper bath, just once. But will it ever come true?”

Manana: “I asked the local authorities for an electric wheelchair, but they said no. They told me only people with disabled arms are eligible. But how are they supposed to control the wheelchair? I didn’t understand. I got angry and bought one on credit. Now half of my pension goes to the bank to repay the loan.”

Manana: “I live in a house that was once damaged by fire. And I still don’t have the money to repair it.”

Manana: “Until now, I’ve never asked anyone for anything. But please – help me. I need food. And if you could help me get a refrigerator, a washing machine, and a bed with an orthopedic mattress, it would make my life so much easier. May every kind deed you do for me come back to you a hundredfold. May the Lord be merciful to you, and to me. Amen.”

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!

YOU HELPED – THANK YOU!

“All my life, everyone deceived me, but you helped,” says Grandmother Manana through tears. It is very hard for her to move, sitting on her stool, yet she insists on going around the whole house herself to see all the changes. With immense effort, she rocks the wooden stool from side to side. For three years now, she hasn’t been able to walk even with crutches. A careless doctor promised to free her from them, but instead left her completely disabled.

When we, the representatives of the Chernovetskyi Fund, first came to see this poor elderly woman who could not move even on crutches, we saw only one thing in her eyes: “All my life, people have lied to me – that’s why I believe in nothing and no one.” But today, when we visited her unannounced, we saw something different – faith and hope had returned to her eyes after so many years.

Reaching the hallway, Grandmother Manana saw her new metal-plastic front door and windows and clapped her hands in delight. She says that once she finishes paying off her electric wheelchair loan, she’ll buy a lamb and invite the Fund’s friends to a feast.

Manana: “May you all live to be 100, and may God grant me the joy of seeing you healthy and happy.”

What can we do? The more gifts, the more tears! Manana asks us not to stop her from crying tears of happiness. Because she needs to cry her heart out – for the gas stove and refrigerator, for the washing machine, for the bed and dresser, for the new windows and doors.

She remembers all her hardships, and the tears come flooding back – the freezing winter when she shivered under a blanket because of broken windows… the laundry done in a bucket that left her breathless… the old bed she fell out of more than once…

Our dear little Mancho! She has found protectors against all who once hurt her. She has found you – and embraced you, friends of the Fund!

And though her face is wet with tears, it shines with a smile. In her new gas stove, Grandmother Manana will bake Meskhetian khachapuri. In her new bed, with soft, cozy plaid bedding, she will peacefully fall asleep – after praying for you and wishing you health and prosperity.

Our little grandmother Mancho loves life’s simple joys – sipping tea or coffee. Oh, how delighted she was to see her new coffee maker and electric kettle! After drinking coffee prepared by our Fund’s correspondent, she immediately turned to the coffee grounds to tell the Fund’s friends their fortune.

There is only one problem left in Manana’s home, dear friends – the roof needs urgent repair. We don’t believe it will cost much, but it must be done without delay. Autumn is near, then rains, and in winter – snow. May God grant Grandmother Manana many more years of life,  for now she has so many reasons to be happy! She’s as sweet as a child, though forgotten by the world.

And now, friends, here’s Manana’s prediction for you:

Manana: “Health, joy, and financial success!”

And what shall we wish our dear grandmother Mancho? Let’s make a promise — and fulfill it very soon: this year we will send her to Ureki so she can rest in the magnetic sands and treat her legs. We will also provide her with food, medicines, a blood pressure monitor, and repair her leaking ceiling.
