And what a joy it is to make people happy, and to be God’s messengers! Be happy in your kindness, friends, for it comes only from God! Read on and help! The Bible, in the Book of Genesis, says: “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness…’ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:26–27)

Two beautiful birds…

Nana is now 63 years old, and for the last 15 of those years, she has been confined to bed. Our dear reader, you are probably thinking now that this is a typographical error, and instead of 15 years, it should say 15 months or 15 weeks. Oh… if only that were true. Unfortunately, it has indeed been 15 years since this poor woman has been able to get out of bed. Moreover, she cannot even turn over on her own.

Multiple Sclerosis – that is the terrible diagnosis she received many years ago. You probably all know how insidious this disease is. It tries to “consume” and paralyze every organ in the human body. Yes… this disease virtually turns a person into a “living dead.”

In her youth, Nana stood out for her intelligence, education, and selfless love for people. When she walked down the street, everyone noticed her beauty. Who would have thought that this vibrant young woman would face such a severe ordeal years later?

Due to the insidious disease, Nana’s virtually every organ is damaged – except her heart. Her heart was filled with boundless kindness from the very beginning, and perhaps that is why it remained the only organ the terrible disease could not touch.

The only bright spot in the life of the bedridden woman was the “colorful world” outside her window, visible from her bed.  But even this bright spot was not spared by cruel fate – Nana’s eyesight deteriorated.

Nana’s “refuge” became this dark, tiny room, just 15 square meters. And the tragedy is that even this room is not Nana’s property. In this dismal space, instead of the aroma of a delicious meal, there is the bitter smell of medicines; on the table there us just a piece of stale bread,  and in the pot — a bit of tasteless food.

Nana (63 years old): “In my youth, I could never have imagined my life would take such a turn. And what will the end be like?” – now, this is the only question that does not leave my mind. And there is only one answer to it: without the help of kind people, my end will be far more terrible than you can imagine, my child…”

If she had children, perhaps her life would have been completely different.

Do you know what’s most striking? Despite the unbearable suffering, not a single word of reproach toward the Lord escaped Nana’s lips.

“Perhaps I deserved this…” she uttered in a broken voice and sighed heavily.

Nana lies on this terrible bed and hopelessly dreams of an anti-decubitus mattress and an orthopedic pillow.

Her pension is not even enough for medicine.

Nana: “If I had an anti-decubitus mattress, my suffering would become at least a little easier. An orthopedic pillow is my dream.  And a medical bed with a remote control… I have been hopelessly dreaming of it for 15 years. Fifteen years – a hopeless dream… And today, for the first time in 15 years, I have hope, my child,” (she said to the fund’s correspondent). “My suffering will reach the ears of kind people, and I am sure – they will not abandon me in this torment.”

When the fund’s correspondent was saying goodbye to the poor woman, 

Nana said: “Wait a minute, my child. I cannot offer you chocolate, nor can I help your fund’s benefactors in any other way. But I can give them one priceless gift: my wisdom, which gives me the strength to rejoice in life even in such a hopeless situation. Tell the fund’s most devoted friends: 

‘When morning comes and you open your eyes – the first thing you must do is thank the Lord for a new day.’ In my youth, the Lord gave me everything to be happy. But I did not see what He gave me – I only noticed what, as I thought, He had not yet given me. Perhaps it is for this ingratitude that I find myself in such a trial.

Therefore, my child, I ask you – convey my words to every person: 

‘Be grateful to the Lord – and then Satan will never, ever be able to defeat you.’“

Every time you can help someone, just do it, and rejoice that the Lord has turned your heart toward someone else’s sorrow. That He is answering their prayers through you. That means you are chosen. May you always be blessed. And please—keep remembering those who suffer. Go visit them. That’s where you’ll discover your true worth – as a true Georgian, a great human being, just as the Lord created us to be.
