Can you imagine this? In the heart of Tbilisi – a city of gleaming modern buildings, beauty salons, and luxury stores – a blind, disabled Georgian man, Araik Areshov, appears to be living… but in truth, he is merely surviving – starving, freezing, and forgotten. Before his death, Araik’s father – seemingly no longer in his right mind – sold the family home. Now Araik, a decent, kind man, lives like a stray dog in a tiny, damp room – without electricity, without gas, and without even the most basic necessities.
REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!
I’ve lost all hope… I’ve been abandoned. Dear God, help me… I beg You!
As a second-degree disabled person, he divides his bread into portions – one piece per day – just to avoid starving to death. His home is a ruined, damp, freezing space. No electricity, no gas. The walls are crumbling and soaked with moisture. The bed is broken.
Someone once gave him a TV, but with no electricity, it now serves as nothing more than a mirror.
He dreams of having gas and electricity – simply to warm himself or cook a meal, just to survive at the most basic level. Without them, even the most basic human needs are out of reach.
In winter, it’s as cold inside as it is outside. The frost seeps through every crack, and his heart longs for warmth and light. He didn’t always live alone. His father was there too – living in the same courtyard. But as the father grew older, fear took over – the fear that after his death, his disabled son would be left with no one to protect him. So, hoping to secure Araik’s future, the father signed the house over to his nephew, Alla. It seems he believed the nephew would look after Araik… but instead, the house was sold after the father’s death, and Araik was thrown out onto the street. That’s how Araik ended up completely alone – abandoned by fate.
Now he lives in the same courtyard where his mother once lived and where their family home once stood. There’s no one left there now — only the wall of the house where he once knew happiness. He comes up to it, hugs it, and cries…
There’s nothing else left to bring back even a sliver of hope or warmth. His heart is broken, and it feels like all is lost.
But once… once, he was happy
As for Alla – he seems to forget that sins don’t disappear without consequences, and God’s justice never fails. When the time comes, he will answer for his deeds before the Lord.
Araik receives a tiny disability pension. He uses it to buy bread – counting every piece, counting the days he might survive. His heart holds the memory of his mother, who died when he was only 15. She used to cook him delicious meals… and that memory warms him in his darkest hours.
Everything is gone now — even hope.
But despite all the pain and humiliation, Araik has never lost his dignity. He often looks up at the sky, praying… asking God not to leave him in this darkness, begging for just a little warmth. He cannot work — his disability won’t allow it. Every winter and summer night, he washes his clothes by hand in ice-cold water.
And where does he wash himself? In the shared outdoor toilet – where there’s only a hose and freezing water. That’s where life teaches him resilience and patience.
His mother always told him: “Always stay clean – so your soul stays clean too.” And he’s held on to that, no matter what.
Thankfully, there is at least a shared toilet in the yard… I can’t even imagine what he’d do without it. I feel ashamed… and my heart is shattered.
But soon, it won’t be just spiritual warmth he’ll need. This is the story of a man forgotten by the world – a reminder that even in a city of wealth and luxury, there are those left behind by everyone. His heart still beats, hoping that one day everything will change.
Because dignity like his doesn’t depend on comfort or possessions. He lives and fights on because deep inside, he believes the light and warmth will return.
Araik needs gas and electricity connected to his home, as well as dry food, since he can’t cook without gas or electricity. His bed is broken, and it’s become impossible to sleep on it.
