Dear friends of the Fund, today we want to tell you the heartbreaking story of a girl who seems to have come down from heaven with the rays of the sun. But this sinful world did not accept the angel.

Barbare was born prematurely. By the time she was just nine months old, serious problems began to emerge, one after another. And then came the devastating diagnosis: she would never be able to walk.

At age five, Barbare underwent surgery on both legs – but it didn’t help. She still couldn’t walk on her own. A second surgery was necessary, but her family couldn’t afford it.

Time passed, and the girl grew up… but she never really had a childhood.

Today, Barbare is 12 years old, and she still cannot walk independently.
 Her poor mother walks beside her, supporting her every step of the way. The most painful part is that Barbare can’t even take a few steps on her own – her legs give out, and she collapses.

One look into this girl’s eyes is enough to see that her heart is overflowing with kindness and love.

And if you ever see Barbare smile, you’ll know immediately – she’s an angel sent by God. An angel meant to bring warmth and love to this world… A world where faith in God, sadly, is fading.

When I, a correspondent from the Chernovetskyi Fund, came to visit Barbare, I witnessed a heartbreaking scene. She didn’t see me, but I saw her – sitting quietly at the edge of a playground ride, watching the other children play. Can you imagine the fire that must have been burning in this child’s heart?

Barbare (12-year-old): “When I go out to the park or the playground, and kids who don’t know me see me, I feel like they don’t want to play with me. I smile at them from afar, but they look away… like they don’t even see me.”

As she was saying this, two unfamiliar girls approached her. Children who didn’t know Barbare at all felt her pain without words. They noticed that she wanted to play but couldn’t come closer. So they lifted her up and brought her to the play area.

May God bless those compassionate children who understood another’s pain without needing words.

Look how happy Barbare is! Do you know what made her happiest? It wasn’t the games – it was the warmth and care of those girls.

want to say something to the parents and relatives of those kind children: “Be proud – so proud! They brought color to the black-and-white day of a child in distress. And in today’s world, even many adults aren’t capable of such selfless kindness and love.”

The care of those strangers brought joy to Barbare’s heart. And now it’s our turn, as adults, to reach out and help this little angel – because her future is being decided right now.

To pay for Barbare’s first operation, her family sold everything they had. But it is the second surgery that matters most – it will determine whether Barbare will walk, or remain disabled for life, enduring excruciating pain.

Barbare: “When my classmates go to the gym for P.E., I stay behind in the classroom. Not because the teacher or kids don’t invite me – on the contrary, they always try to help me. But I just don’t want to go, because I love sports so much. And not being able to take part hurts me deeply.”

The cruel irony is that the girl who loves sports can’t even walk. God, how does the earth bear so much injustice? How does it keep turning when children suffer, when they hurt, when they cry out for help – and there’s no way out in sight?

But Barbare still has hope. Foreign doctors have given a guarantee – after surgery to lengthen her tendons,  she will be able to walk on her own. The cost of that surgery is $18,000.

Now do you see why she’s smiling? She believes her mother already has the money for the operation.

Barbare (speaking to the Fund’s correspondent): “I know why you came – to tell me that I’ll be walking soon! My dream came true – they’re going to do the surgery! Please, tell everyone it’s already been scheduled. That’s what Mom told me the other day.”

Dear friends! Yes, what Barbare said is true – she is scheduled for surgery very soon. But she doesn’t know that her mother has no way to pay for it. And she mustn’t find out. She’s been having seizures lately, and any shock could make her worse.

Dear fellow Georgians! You understand what an important mission lies before you. If Barbare doesn’t get the surgery soon, she will lose her only chance to walk. She won’t just lose her childhood – she’ll lose her future.

And it won’t just be her loss. It will be ours, too. Because if we let this angel – this ray of sunlight sent from heaven – suffer without helping, we will lose something even more precious: our faith in ourselves.

Barbare will never demand anything from us. Her poor mother will never hold it against us. No earthly judge will punish us. But what will we say to the greatest Judge of all – when our time comes, and we stand before Him?
