She needs to be examined in Turkey, because here in Georgia, clinics have refused to accept a poor, lonely woman like her for proper medical examination! Is that humanity? Have they forgotten that every human life is a gift from God? And please, for God’s sake, avoid havins complicated surgeries done in local clinics! Or else, this could be the tragic result! It doesn’t matter how much money you have – it will never be enough to cover a lifetime of treatment if something goes wrong! This can happen to anyone after undergoing complicated brain surgeries in local clinics. And thank God there are now hundreds of thousands of us in Georgia – because without collective support, even the wealthy couldn’t afford this! Right now, we’re talking about a proper examination at the very least, because in Georgia, Irina has been sentenced – without trial – to a slow, agonizing death! Officials in high offices decided: “Who needs her?” But this poor woman keeps fighting, fighting to live. She desperately wants to live! We cannot abandon her! We must not!

Irina has fluid buildup in her brainstem. The surgery ended in catastrophe: the very next day, Irina suffered a stroke. Due to severe brain swelling, doctors had to remove part of her skull — now, she literally lives with “half a head.”

Irina has a chance to be saved – but not in Georgia. To give her a chance at life, she must be transferred to Turkey. But her daughter simply cannot afford it. 35-year-old Anastasia doesn’t even have enough money to buy diapers for her mother.

For over a year, this poor woman has been fed through a syringe.

Looking at Irina, one might think – perhaps death would be less painful than enduring such torment.

She spent 2.5 months in intensive care, underwent multiple surgeries including shunting, tracheostomy, and gastrostomy.

Without physiotherapy, she has no chance not only of recovery – even a peaceful death would be denied her.

Irina urgently needs a multi-functional mobile chair with sanitation support, costing about 1,500 GEL. She also critically needs suction tubes, tracheostomy filters, and hygiene supplies. We at the Fund truly believe, dear friends, that there is space in your hearts for this suffering woman.

Irina’s life has been full of hardship from the very beginning. Her husband left when their daughter was still very young. Later, as a single mother, she sold their home to save her daughter Anastasia’s life. For 30 years now, she has been moving from one rented space to another. On the little she earned through hard labor, she bought food for her daughter and often went hungry herself. A true hero – a mother with a tragic fate.

And her self-sacrifice did not go unnoticed. Today, Anastasia cares for her with the same devotion Irina once showed her. Anastasia skipped meals just to afford a caregiver. But the dishonest nurse gave Irina sleeping pills every day instead of helping her. This caused her condition to deteriorate further.

And this is Irina’s grandson – 9-year-old Nikolai. This sweet, kind boy brought flowers to his dying grandmother – he truly believes he can bring her a little joy.

Dear friends, I must tell you the story behind this photograph. When I, a correspondent for the Chernovetskyi Fund, visited their rented home, little Nikolai gestured that he wanted to speak privately.

Nikolai: “Grandma used to love flowers… Auntie, I want to pick some myself.  But our neighborhood is full of concrete buildings. A little farther away, there’s one tree with beautiful blossoms. But Mom won’t let me go alone. Will you come with me?” The continuation of this touching story is in the next photo.

The flower brought by her beloved grandson seemed to bring the “lifeless” back to life. The pain etched on Irina’s face softened into a faint smile. She cannot talk, but her eyes seem to whisper: “My precious child, Grandma loves you so much… How I wish I could live long enough to hold you on my lap just once more…”

When their hands met, Irina’s heart beat stronger. Each day, God shows us more clearly that love is the greatest force on Earth.

I, the Fund’s correspondent, witnessed this miracle unfold before my eyes. The woman, whose hands were completely paralyzed, suddenly seemed to gain strength from the flower her grandson gave her. See for yourself — how firmly she grips it in her fingers and holds it close to her heart…

56 years ago, a blue-eyed, fair-haired Irina was born. Who could have imagined that her bright life would one day become a living hell? Life, indeed, is just a fleeting moment. Eternal life awaits only in God’s Kingdom.

Now imagine the burning pain in her daughter’s heart, watching her mother slowly die in agony, helpless to do anything.

Anastasia (35-year-old): “When I was little, my mom sold our home to save me. She gave up her whole life for me, and I… I can’t even give her a chance to be saved. I can’t even provide her with basic human conditions…”

Today, this heroic mother has been forgotten. She feels and understands everything – she just can’t express it in words. Maybe it would have been easier if she weren’t conscious… at least then she wouldn’t feel the emotional pain.

 A woman born under an unlucky star – never given the chance to live with dignity… But now, dear friends, we have that chance! Let’s give her a new life! A dignified life!
