I ask this with all my heart,” these are the words that a correspondent of the Chernovetsky Foundation accidentally heard when he entered the Shavishvili family’s home. Imagine how tormented the soul of an elderly woman must be if, instead of salvation, she asks the Lord for death.

This is Grandma Lali. Her doomed cry reaches the sky… She spent all her young years in poverty. Then she became a widow. And now she is forced to watch the hellish torments of her son, unable to help him because of the damned poverty.

Lord, is “dirty green paper” stronger than a mother’s heart and tears?

Her son Mikhail is forty years old. In another country, perhaps, someone would smirk, because the mother continues to perceive a 40-year-old man as a small child. But this is Georgia – a small country with people with big hearts. Here, the mother’s status is active, even if her son is 40, 50 or 60 years old. And there is nothing shameful about it.

Since childhood, Mikhail was distinguished by his kindness. If he had one candy, he would give it to another child. As he grew older, he became even kinder and closer to God. But insidious fate turned against him. Who knows, maybe Satan himself intervened…

As a student, the boy’s biggest dream was to create a loving family, raise children and delight his heroic but life-deprived mother with the joyful laughter of grandchildren. But today, instead of children’s voices, only crying can be heard in Shavishvili’s yard. Instead of the children’s bright clothes, mourning clothes hang on the clothesline. Even the birds no longer sit on the grapes. Only the dog howls in despair…

It was when Mikhail was thinking about the wedding that he was struck by the insidious diabetes. Due to poverty, treatment was impossible. The only income the unfortunate man had was the money he earned from selling fruits and vegetables he had grown in his garden with his own hands. But this was not enough for examinations, treatment, or even to buy an insulin syringe. The disease progressed with each passing day, and one day the worst thing happened – the unfortunate man lost his sight. Today, Mikhail has only 1% of his vision left.

Mikhail (40 years old): “A person can endure any disease, but blindness is the most terrible. You wouldn’t wish it even on your enemy. Blindness has only one “plus”: when a blind person dies, and if hell is destined for him, he will no longer be afraid of anything, because he has already gone through hell on earth.”

Mikhail: “Every day I go into the vineyard by touch and handle the bunches of grapes. I used to look after the vineyards and the gardens. Now my poor mother, herself ill, with weakened arms and knees, waters, hoes and plows the garden. I feel neither a man nor a human being. I feel as if I had lost my dignity.”

In addition to blindness, Mikhail suffered another great misfortune. His body is affected by blood clots, and this process is constantly progressing. Probably everyone knows how insidious this disease is: in one second it can take a person’s life. Yes, for this good man today may be the last day. And his poor mother will not survive another tragedy…

How can this family survive if they have no money to buy medicine or go to the doctor? How will the poor mother and son get treatment if their pension is not enough even for food?!

Mikhail: “The doctors promised that after the operation my vision would be restored by 30%. This means that my long-term suffering will end. Mikhail: “And most importantly, when I get rid of complete blindness, then perhaps I will start a family, I will have children, and this yard, where now only crying is heard, will be filled with children’s laughter.”

Mikhail: “My unfortunate heroic mother deserves happiness at least in the last years of her life. But without your help, good people, I will not be able to do this.”

Mikhail: “I am so ashamed to ask for help that the ground slips out from under my feet, but there is no other way out. Please help me have the operation! And when the time comes to go to the Lord, the first thing I will ask Him to do is not to deprive you, your families and your descendants of protection.”
