Though he himself is dying without medicine, 88-year-old Giorgi saves every penny of his pension for the surgery his grown-up daughter needs – the child he and his wife once adopted after her biological parents abandoned her.

“Tamar means everything to me. I love her more than anything in this world and I’m ready to give everything – my strength, my health, even my life – if only she could walk again and be happy.
I don’t want to die before I see her stand on her own two feet. And recently, a Turkish doctor gave us hope!” – says the true Georgian father.

Most people of his age think about their own illnesses, but Giorgi thinks only of her – the daughter to whom he has devoted his entire life.

To him, she will always be his little girl.

He is 88 years old. He can barely walk, struggles to breathe from weakness, and almost can’t see. Yet every single day, he helps his daughter move into her wheelchair, feeds her, and supports her in every possible way. His daughter, who has been unable to walk since a terrible car accident, depends completely on his care.

This is the daily reality of the Maglakelidze family in the village of Meore Sviri – an old father and his grown daughter left alone with illness and poverty.

In 2018, 55-year-old Tamar Maglakelidze was in a serious car accident. She suffered fractures in both arms, severe head and facial injuries, and spinal damage. Since then, she has been unable to walk and can only sit in a wheelchair. 

Years of immobility led to significant weight gain – today she weighs around 130 kilograms. On top of that, she developed diabetes, coxarthrosis, and now lives with four stents in her heart. 

But there is hope. Recently, a doctor from Turkey visited Georgia, examined Tamar, and said that surgery could make it possible for her to walk again. This news became a ray of light after so many years of pain. But there’s one problem – Tamar has no money for this life-changing surgery.

Her biological parents abandoned her as a baby. Then Giorgi Maglakelidze and his wife, who had no children of their own, took her in. She became their long-awaited, beloved daughter – the meaning of their lives.

“He saved my life. He raised me, gave me an education, taught me kindness, and made me who I am. Yes, he loved me – a child abandoned by others – as his own daughter. He gave me everything… And now, when my father is weak from old age, what can I give him in return? Nothing. I’m not a bad daughter – it’s just that life has been cruel to me. And more than my disability, this pain tortures me.
My soul aches… And there’s no medicine anywhere that can heal the pain of the soul.”

Tamar has three grown children who live in Tbilisi. They themselves are struggling to make ends meet, but they help their mother as much as they can – buying diapers, medicine, and food. Still, they don’t have enough to pay for her surgery.  That’s why Tamar and her father are asking us for help. They believe in us – and only in us. Lord, open our hearts!
