The Holy Mother herself – in whose honor our little Georgian girl Mariam was named – has entrusted us with a choice: will this child see another tomorrow?

Because of a medical error in her homeland, our Georgian girl, named after the Holy Virgin, now hovers between life and death. The child is suffering terribly, yet still fighting – and the victory is near!

Her parents named their daughter after the Holy Virgin Mary – Mariam.  Through sleepless nights of prayer, they firmly believed that the Holy Mother would come to their aid and save their child. 

There is nothing in the world more powerful than the prayers of loving hearts — and, thank God, Turkish doctors have stepped forward to save the child! The first miracle has already happened: The Ministry of Health has allocated funds for the surgery itself – but now a thorough medical examination must be performed, and $7,300 is needed to complete it, so that the child’s torment may finally end. 

We firmly believe that the Blessed Mother will bless everyone who extends a helping hand to Mariam. Her parents, who pray day and night, have no money at all. And her birth was extremely difficult.

The baby suffered brain hemorrhages that led to hydrocephalus. 

Yet until the age of three she could walk and talk – she was cheerful, sociable, and full of life.

At the age of three, she underwent surgery in Georgia to prevent complications caused by her birth trauma. 

Her mother rejoiced, thinking her daughter would soon be healthy again. But tragically, that operation turned out to be fatal – and the child began to slowly die. Such a tragedy!

Maka, 40 (Mariam’s mom): Some time after the surgery, my little girl stopped talking. She could no longer walk. Then she stopped moving her arms and legs.

In fact, she became completely paralyzed, and her condition kept deteriorating day by day. 

In 2018, Mariam was being prepared for another surgery, and her poor mother’s heart was filled with new hope. But cruel fate struck again – her joy turned into deep sorrow. Just before the surgery, the girl began suffering from severe epileptic seizures. Since then, doctors have tried many treatments, but instead of improving, Mariam’s condition has continued to worsen. 

A few days ago, the girl slipped into a coma, and her chances of survival were almost zero. But the Holy Virgin worked a true miracle – Mariam came back to life. Now she urgently needs brain surgery in Turkey, as well as surgery on her legs.

Just look how her limbs are painfully twisted in spasms. She endures unbearable pain. For 15 years, Mariam has been living in this agony. For 15 years, she has been confined to this bed. And yet, a person could hardly survive 15 days of such suffering. But Mariam wants to live so much that she endures even the unbearable. Sadly, her strength is fading. 

And in her eyes, one can read only this: “I am dying… I waited for you for 15 years, but no one came to help me.”

Mariam is only 18 years old – that precious age when life is filled with joy, dreams, and discoveries. School graduation, university, first love, and hope for the future – all this has passed her by. Just as childhood and all the happiness she was meant to know have passed her by.

When I, the Fund’s correspondent, photographed Mariam, for a moment through my camera lens I saw not the eyes of a sick girl, but the eyes of a young woman – one who once dreamed of wearing a beautiful dress, doing her hair, creating a family, becoming a mother. Yes, in her eyes I clearly saw one thing: Mariam just wanted to be an ordinary girl. Was that really too much to ask?

The surgery that Mariam needs can only be performed in Turkey – it is not physically possible to do it in Georgia. For this reason, the Georgian state will cover the cost of the operation itself. But no surgeon can perform such a complex procedure without the necessary preliminary tests and medical preparation – and their total cost is $7,300. 

For this extremely poor family, this sum is completely unaffordable. 

Their only hope is you – kind and compassionate people.
Today, Mariam’s life depends on $7,300. This is not an amount we wouldn’t be able to raise together. 

Remember: every call, every donation brings us closer to saving the girl named in honor of the Holy Mother. And the Blessed Virgin will protect your children with her grace and mercy. To help save someone else’s child – only truly noble and kind-hearted mothers are capable of that.
