REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO GOD!
Gocha, 65-year-old: “I have no one left in this world – no family, no children. When I was young, I fell madly in love with a classmate. But she didn’t love me back. I’ve learned that every person needs someone by their side. Otherwise, loneliness can drive you insane. Don’t make my mistake, friends.”
Once strong and active, Gocha can now hardly get out of bed. Severe obesity (165 kg) and six herniated discs make every movement unbearable. Even turning over in bed is painful. He needs medications and medical check-ups, but he doesn’t have enough money even for the most basic things. IF NOTHING CHANGES, WE MAY LOSE HIM FOREVER!

“Just look at me – what a handsome young man I was back then! God, how happy I was… and what has life done to me?”
Friends, remember this: every new day, if you’re healthy, is the greatest gift from God. Make the most of it. Be happy.
This photo was taken during Gocha’s best student years. The girls in the picture were his closest friends. When they took this photo, they promised each other that when they grew old, they’d take another one – just like it. Sadly, for various reasons, none of them kept that promise. If you recognize yourself in this picture, please contact us – the Chernovetskyi Fund will organize a reunion with your old friend from studenthood. That joy alone could add years to Gocha’s life.
This former medical office, abandoned and forgotten, has become Gocha’s prison.
The walls are covered in toxic mold, and the sealed window makes every breath a struggle for life. To breathe at all, he has to leave the door open at night. A journalist who visited him almost fainted from the stifling air inside.
Gocha cannot walk. Thank God for the kind neighbor who brings him a ration from a free canteen. Some days, Gocha doesn’t eat at all. Half a loaf of bread, semolina porridge, and a watery soup with matsoni – that’s all he has to eat today.
The damp has soaked everything. To avoid sleeping on wet mattress, he stacks six of them on top of each other.
Gocha worked for nearly 40 years in different regional and national newspapers and magazines. He wrote social reports and helped many people – and now he’s the one who needs help. He can’t even leave his room anymore – the stairs have become an impossible challenge for him. He survives on a small pension and a 60-lari social allowance.
There’s no hot water, no shower, no heating. He doesn’t even have a heater, so he keeps his gas stove burning all day to stay warm – risking his life just to feel a bit of heat.
Dear reader, we’re sorry to show you such harsh pictures, but the purpose of our Fund is to show reality as it is – without disguise.
The conditions have become unbearable. Gocha has to wash himself in the corridor.
“I’m embarrassed to invite anyone here,” he says quietly.
“People say even half an hour in this room feels like torture. And I’ve lived here for nine years! I’m asking all kind-hearted people, businessmen, anyone who can – please help me with food, clothes, medicine, anything at all. I have nothing.”
This jacket has survived since Gocha’s youth. It’s too old for anyone to wear now, but for him, it’s priceless – it reminds him of the happy years long gone.
Dear friends of the Fund, please don’t leave our fellow countryman alone in his misery. This story touched every one of us at the Chernovetskyi Fund. Together with the kind people of Georgia, we have a chance to do something truly important. Let’s show Gocha that he’s not forgotten and not alone. He needs to be saved. No one deserves to spend the last years of their life in a cold, crumbling room. Remember – one day, we too will grow old.

YOU HELPED – THANK YOU!
Gocha Kharatishvili is a journalist known all over Georgia – he wrote for Lelo, Tbilisi, Rural Life, and many other Georgian print outlets. A big-hearted, smiling man we often met at press conferences as colleagues. And then came a painful shock: Gocha is literally wasting away in the social dormitory in Kojori. He lives in a tiny four-meter room that reeks of mold and decay, with no bathroom or shower, cooking on an old tabletop gas stove. He sleeps on a damp, cold bed, sick and completely alone.

Gocha had been waiting anxiously for the Fund’s car – it was bringing gifts from all of us, gifts he desperately needed. He was so happy to recognize me from our past journalistic life. But he immediately grew shy… until I hugged him.
At 65, he made a choice: to be honest, to tell his story to people who care, to save himself – rather than stay silent and perish. And you cared for him like a real family… the family he unfortunately does not have.

This kind, God-loving woman – Gocha’s neighbor –
burst into tears from joy and gratitude: “I have heard many times about the kindness of the Chernovetskyi Fund’s friends. But I never expected so many gifts. May God bless each of your families. Wishing you prosperity and peace!”
Now Gocha has a modern gas stove and refrigerator. He can finally throw away the soot-covered old stove and the “mouse refrigerator,” which he was afraid to even open – mice were finishing the leftover butter inside.
The old stove will be thrown away
Now Gocha can get rid of his old, battered frying pan and the one pot he used for everything, thanks to the new cookware set you gave him. He can also get rid of his damp, unusable bedding: now he sleeps on new pillows under a warm blanket.

We cleared his table of jars and bottles, making space for a new electric kettle.
Gocha loved the hair clipper and electric shaver. He immediately asked his younger neighbor to trim the back of his hair: “I may be a pensioner, but now I’ll always look neat and young.”
Gocha: “I am amazed by your help – it is true happiness for me. The Chernovetskyi Fund is a friend to people as helpless as I am. I respect you very much. You even wrote to the Public Defender about me, telling them in what dirt and misery I was living. And they opened a case.”
GOCHA’S LETTER OF GRATITUDE

God forbid anyone should live as Gocha does. An elderly man with a damaged spine has to walk 300–400 meters to a public toilet. That’s also where he washes his clothes as best he can. He washes his face in the corridor over a basin. It’s cold there, the floor is wet and dirty. His clothes hang in plastic bags along the walls. His eyes strain under a single dim light bulb. This is a personal hell on earth, friends. Gocha attempted suicide twice.
We can give him comfort and peace. To do that, we urgently need to build him a bathroom – there is already space next to his room. He also needs a wardrobe. And he is always grateful for medicines, food, and large-size clothing in good condition. The room needs repairs as well.
Gocha is like a tired, grown child who desperately needs warmth and care. Friends, helping a wonderful person who once helped so many others is a great joy.
Every donation is a breath of air free from mold. Every repost is one day’s dinner for Gocha.
Friends, no one’s suffering is “someone else’s.” So if you know of people in trouble anywhere in Georgia – write to us! WE ARE ALWAYS BY YOU!
