Oh God… Are these scenes really from an American horror movie?! A terrified Georgian mother trying to warm her child, stiff from the cold, by a small fire! “Please, don’t let his sock catch fire…” – she mutters helplessly.

“Thank God, it seems everything worked out… If the landlord doesn’t evict us from this half-collapsed building that demands 150 lari in rent this month, I’ll survive the winter,” Lía, a mother of three little ones, told me firmly. Her children are 5, 3, and 2 years old, and her husband is sick and completely helpless due to multiple illnesses.

At 26, Lía is the most unfortunate mother in all of Georgia

The fire that now burns in this young mother’s heart is fiercer than the small flame before her. No enemy deserves to have to warm a freezing newborn by a fire because of cursed poverty.

When Andria was born, he had serious health problems.

His poor mother went hungry during her pregnancy. And when she left the hospital, water squelched in her torn shoes whenever it rained. A young mother should never walk around in wet, torn shoes! No wonder the youngest child kept getting sick… So much so that the pediatrician prescribed special nutrition that they simply cannot afford.

Lia (26-year-old, Andria’s mom) – “I went to the pharmacy with the doctor’s prescription to buy Andria’s special food, I didn’t have enough money. I left the pharmacy and, in despair, bit my own arm… At that moment, I wished for death.”

If anyone could spare even a little matsoni… Tomorrow there will be none, and I don’t know how to feed my joy.
Lord… all this is happening just forty kilometers from Tbilisi!

“Auntie, aren’t you hungry? Eat, eat! We’re not stingy! The bread is very tasty.”

Three-year-old Lazare and five-year-old Anna-Maria handed me, a journalist from the Chernovetskyi Fund, a piece of bread.

That piece of bread was the only food in the house for the children, exhausted from hunger… Yet they still gave it to a “stranger aunt.”  Tears filled my eyes – tears of sorrow and joy at the same time, for in our little homeland, children are growing up with hearts so big.

I hope no one takes offense at my words, but children in Georgia have different eyes… a different smile… Words cannot describe it. You must feel it yourself.

This crumbling, dilapidated house (if it can even be called a house) is the only shelter for the Ozashvili family.

Broken windows, like after an enemy attack; a collapsed ceiling, cracked walls, and a ruined floor – this is where three-year-old Lazare, five-year-old Anna-Maria, and now two-month-old Andria live.

Friends, only a few hours remain before the bitter winter sets in… When you raise your glasses and make the kind of toasts only possible in Georgia, remember all those in need whom you’ve helped, and wish them a life of dignity and hope Even better – if someone could come to the family’s home with gifts and celebrate the holiday with them!
The children’s lives are in danger. During winter storms and heavy snow, the risk that this fragile house will completely collapse is high.

God forbid these three little angels be buried under the rubble.

And now the worst part…  Even this house does not belong to the Ozashvilis. They pay rent every month. But in recent months, they could not pay the landlord.

Of course, we will pay, but I (the founder, Leonid) want to look the landlord in the eyes to understand… Maybe he, too, is starving and freezing?

Lía, 26, mother of three: “Two days ago, the landlord came. He said that if I can’t pay by mid-December, we will have to leave. I cannot be angry at him – it’s inhuman, he is poor too, and everyone needs to eat! In my heart, I believe that no matter what happens, God will not leave my children in the snow this bitter winter, and I will not be left outside with my two-month-old baby. I have nowhere to go.”

On each house, if the donor agrees, we will place a plaque with the name of the kind person who donates more than 900 lari (we should record them all – there will be many, and maybe we’ll even need to write on the roofs…)

Perhaps, when our new friends are settled, we will celebrate the next New Year there! We will even hold a contest for the best Santa Claus and the most beautiful Snow Maiden!

Lia, 26, mother of three: “My husband has serious heart problems and other conditions that strictly forbid him from any physical work – otherwise, the consequences could be fatal.” (She showed me medical documents to prove it.  Sadly, every word was true.)

Anna-Maria goes to kindergarten in a torn coat. For holidays, instead of a pretty dress, she wears clothes you would honestly only find in a dumpster. Does this little angel deserve this?

And the toys… Their only toy is a naked doll from the early 21st century.

Merciful people, this article is not about ridding children of poverty. It is far more serious. This is about children’s lives.

Even a small donation from you could buy a tiny plot of land or a tiny house in a village. Even if it’s just one room, the most important thing is that the children are no longer at risk of being left without a roof over their heads in the freezing winter.

The Ozashvilis do not ask to be saved from poverty. They only ask for rescue… for the continuation of life.

I appeal to all people living in Georgia, of all nationalities and religions: kindness has no nationality. Kindness has only one God. Today, all of Georgia must unite to save two-month-old Andria, three-year-old Lazare, and five-year-old Anna-Maria.
