A Gift from the Lord!

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO GOD!

“We’re hungry… all we have to eat is bread, and sometimes garlic… We’re hungry, and we’re very cold…” 11-year-old Mariam tells me, hiding her face in her knees from embarrassment. Lord, help this child find happiness…

We are the only ones who came to the home of the woman who shares the name of billionaire Badri – Badri Chuchulashvili – living 112 km from Tbilisi!

At first, we could hardly believe what Evgenia – Badri’s wife – told us.  First of all, if what she said was true, we had no right to leave people in deadly suffering. And secondly, we were obliged to tell you about the pain of the unfortunate. And we know for sure – the Lord sends such people our way. For us, it is a duty to touch the souls of our fellow citizens.

It was God – truly God – who first came to the poor, who first broke bread with them, who first told each person whom He would one day welcome into His heavenly kingdom, and how He would judge their lives – by what was in their conscience.

Meet them, friends! Chito and Dato Chuchulashvili – brothers with brain disorders. They are like small children and cannot do anything on their own. Between them is their mother, Evgenia. Their middle-aged aunt, Marina Chuchulashvili, also has a brain disorder and cannot manage without help. And this elderly woman is Marina’s mother and the boys’ grandmother – Nino, who can barely see.

This is where they welcomed us. I don’t even know what to call this place.

This – what these simple, good-hearted people call a home…

Inside is a dark hallway that smells of dampness and age. There is no light. It’s as cold as a freezer.

Let no one think we exaggerate anyone’s grief. Even worse – the local officials have left this family completely overlooked and unseen. Perhaps they were worried about our souls. Their own, it seems, are on vacation… But let’s continue.

It’s hard to find words to describe all of this, but I will try to convey exactly what I saw and the poverty this family lives in.

Meet them: 78-year-old Nino and her 44-year-old daughter Marina. Both sick… and worn down by a life of hardship, looking like they’re the same age. May God grant them health! The mother uses a pin instead of a button.

Did you notice how beautiful her eyes are?

Marina is anxious. Thank God she had the strength to dial our number.

Forty-four years is only a number in her passport – in reality, she is like a small child.

She has brain damage and epilepsy. She cannot live independently, understands nothing, and does nothing without her mother.

Mother and daughter share one tiny room without electricity. They have only two old, broken beds unfit for sleeping, and a small wood-burning stove. A sick elderly woman and her sick daughter walk the outskirts of the village collecting firewood.

After 6 p.m., when night falls, a candle is their only hope – their only light.

Nino can hardly see, suffers from high blood pressure, but never leaves Marina alone for even a minute.

Can you imagine such a life?

Look at these photos, look into her eyes. This is pain. A soul worn down by life, pleading for help.

In the same house, on the second floor, live Nino’s son and her grandsons. Three Georgian men, real Kakhetians, but in their case too age is just a number. They, too, have brain damage. They cannot live on their own, cannot understand what is happening around them. They cannot work or help the family in any way.

How bitter it is to see such a cruel illness fall upon these Georgian boys… How much they could have done, how much they could have achieved… Perhaps today they would be living not in poverty, but in a bright, warm home.

But God has willed otherwise, and this family was given this trial to bear.

Their mother, Evgenia, had a stroke last year. She has difficulty moving her left arm and leg.

The father broke his leg several months ago – a severe fracture that left him unable to work.

“I need surgery on my leg, the pain is terrible… but now is not the time for that. My children need food – that’s what matters most now…” Badri tells me, turning away in embarrassment.

I understand how ashamed this once strong, hardworking man feels to ask for help – but he has no other choice. He must save his family. He must get back on his feet, return to the vineyards, earn food for his children, bring firewood to somehow survive the winter.

They need the essentials, the things no one can get through a single day without: warm clothes so they don’t shiver through the night in freezing rooms; a bit of food so they don’t fall asleep hungry; warmth that would bring some life back into this house, where the air is colder than outside.

They need proper beds – so the elderly don’t sleep on broken boards, and the children not on thin mattresses that no longer keep out the cold.

You look at them and realize: this story isn’t about poverty. It’s about the limits of human endurance. About a home where every room holds its own tragedy. About a family that long ago stopped asking “why?” and now only asks “how do we go on?” And now, together, we begin to search for this “how.”

Leonid Chernovetsky

Back in Kyiv, for almost 20 years, I clothed and fed people properly and beautifully. And, by the way, not worse than good cafeterias, and certainly not with bread alone. I washed their clothes, cut their hair, took them to hospitals, made sure they were treated and not abused, and initiated criminal cases against officials who abused the elderly. (In the USSR, the homeless were not accepted into hospitals; often, they were even jailed.)

All of Kyiv – ordinary and not-so-ordinary people – brought clothing, computers, books, jars of homemade jam, groceries, and of course helped financially.

At 74, it still brings me joy to wake up knowing that today we will help someone – save someone from death, warm someone with care… We’ve done so much! No one in power in Ukraine ever said a kind word.
But MPs and Ministers would come with me and help – secretly, so as not to anger the murderous President Kuchma. It is hard work – very hard – but it is my life. And God once revealed a true miracle to me: He saved a family from death!  Thank You, Lord! Thank You!

If you are willing to visit them and help them in person, here is her address: Dedoplistskaro Municipality, village Khornabuji.
