Eight-month-old Mia and two-year-old Nita are hungry and crying so bitterly it breaks your heart.

To distract the younger one, her mother gives her an empty bottle. Mia sucks it, realizes there’s no milk… and cries even louder.

The children have neither food nor diapers. Baby formula for Mia costs 69 lari – money the family simply doesn’t have.

Eteri, 35-year-old (Mom): “I’m raising the children alone. Their father hardly ever thinks of them – once a year, maybe. The kids are waiting for his love, but there’s none. Now, when he sees us through the Chernovetskyi Fund, maybe he’ll understand…”

Eteri can’t work right now – the children are too young, and there’s no one to leave them with. They don’t even have the basics. They have to get food on credit, firewood is running out, and the children are freezing.

Eteri, 35: “I remember the hardest times of my own childhood – we often went to bed with no bread in the house. Once we couldn’t pay the electricity bill – just 10 lari. They cut off the power. We had to stay in the dark. I don’t want my children to go through the same thing.” »

To feed Mia and Nita, their 24-year-old uncle, Jumber, searches for scrap metal every day carrying heavy pieces on his shoulders to earn a little money and buy food for his nieces. Sometimes he earns only 10 lari – almost nothing, but for Mia and Nita, it’s a whole meal.

The family doesn’t even have a proper washing machine. They wash the children’s clothes by hand, in the cold.

Wind blows through broken windows, the roof leaks, and the walls crack. Dampness is everywhere.

There’s no toilet and no bathroom in the house – the babies get bathed right in the middle of the room.

Right there beside them lies 74-year-old grandfather Abeli, confined to his bed. He can’t hear and can barely get up.

Abeli, 74 (grandfather): “This house is older than me. It was built before I was born. I’m 74 now. The house is rotten… I’m not afraid for myself – I’m afraid the roof will fall on the children. How can anyone live here with two little kids?”

Abeli, 74 (grandfather): “Not long ago, I was in intensive care with pneumonia. I get only 60 lari in social allowance – that’s all the money I have. Nothing else. If you help, while I’m still alive, I’ll be grateful… I need a hearing aid. We need firewood—the children are freezing, and the food is gone.”
