IT IS THE SOUL, AND THE SPECIAL ROLE GIVEN BY THE LORD: TO LIVE BY CONSCIENCE AND BY HIS COMMANDMENTS – ABOVE ALL, TO LOVE AND TO HELP THOSE IN NEED!

IT IS INHUMANE TO WALK PAST SOMEONE ELSE’S PAIN. AND THERE IS A GREAT JOY THAT WILL WARM YOUR SOUL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE: TO REACH OUT A HAND – AND TO FEEL THAT JOY AGAIN AND AGAIN FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING!

With his crutches, he manages a few steps. Then he runs out of strength.

Alika (44-year-old): “This cursed wheelchair has become part of my life…”

This is not an injury or an accident. Alika’s illness is genetic. His father, grandfather, and brother all had the same problem with their legs. Doctors said surgery could help. But the family lived in such poverty that there was no chance to pay for treatment. The illness was passed down from generation to generation – along with poverty and pain.

There is another problem – a growth in his abdomen. He needs tests and surgery. Without it, his life is at risk. But there is no money. Every day he delays treatment — and the lump keeps growing.

Alika (44-year-old): “I am completely helpless… Why was I born if I was meant to suffer so much?” he says quietly, with tears in his eyes. He covers his face so no one will see. But we see. And we have no right to turn away.

Lord, forgive us, sinners for not always appreciating what we have… And what a blessing that You have brought us to perhaps the most unfortunate man in Georgia and given us the chance to help!

In this photo, there are Alika’s parents. His father suffered just like his son. He could not walk without a cane.

Alika’s father passed away long ago. A month ago, his mother died. She was 90. She had cared for him her entire life.

Now he lights a candle every day and prays for her soul. Then he stays alone in the empty house. Completely alone.

Alika (44-year-old): “Do you know how horrible loneliness is? You come home, the door is closed, and no one is waiting for you… I wouldn’t wish that even to my enemy.”

He has no family. No wife. No children.

Alika (44-year-old): “I’m shy with women… Who would love someone like me? And it would have been so good to have children… Now I don’t even have anyone to talk to.”

Alika’s house is not really a home. It’s falling apart. No windows. Rotten walls.

It’s colder inside than outside.

Alika (44-year-old): “I’m most afraid that the house will collapse and I’ll be left out in the open. I have nowhere to go…”

He lives on a 400-lari pension and a 60-lari allowance. It’s not enough even for medicine. He has no refrigerator — food spoils. No washing machine. No bathroom.

Alika (44-year-old): “I dream of just bathing properly, in warm water – not in a basin on a cold floor. Is this really a life?”

He eats at a free canteen. Every day he goes there in his wheelchair, takes the food, and brings it back home.

Friends, this man is not asking for much. A safe home. Food. A refrigerator and a washing machine. The chance to bath properly. Medical tests and treatment.

Alika (44-year-old): “When you came, I felt happy. It means there is still someone who cares about me. I believe that…”

Lord, when Alika said these words, I felt so happy. He believes in me. And right then I decided – I will do everything I can, even without telling him, to help this kind Georgian man who still believes the Georgia it has always been.

Let’s not break this faith. He is waiting for us. And there is no one else to help him.
