REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO THE WORK OF MERCY!
She doesn’t want to live! When it hurts a lot, you lose hope… But then a small hand touches her, and she realizes that death will be the easiest solution for her, but the greatest suffering for her child.
So she chooses every day to live – to suffer, to cry, but live.
And you know what’s the most annoying thing? She may not suffer at all. “If you had the opportunity to buy all the medications prescribed by the doctors, if you had the opportunity to take treatments, you would be able to walk,” – they say to her. But with the allowance of 185 GEL she can only buy food for her son – to make soup with two potatoes and half a carrot, and even then not always.
“Each piece of paper is proof that there is salvation. Each of them is a small step towards healing. But you have to pay for these steps…”
– Maya, tell me about yourself.
Maya: I really used to be the healthiest person! I haven’t been to doctor before I got pregnant. I worked, I even dressed nicely, and I had long beautiful hair. Look what I look like now. Pain and hopelessness can kill a person.
That’s what pain can do to a person in two years!
– When did you get sick?
Maya: I got sick right when I was the happiest. During pregnancy, when I felt so happy, suddenly my leg “stopped”. I couldn’t take a step, I got scared. But it lasted only for a few minutes, and then I felt better. The attacks began to recur more often, and as a result, I could not stand on my feet. The doctors said that they would start treating me after the birth of the child. During this period, before Saba was born, my husband left me. Don’t ask me why, I don’t know. I was left alone with a little child. If not for my mother, God bless her, we would not be alive for a long time. She actually raised my son and looked after me.
“God grant everyone such a mother – mother-Angel”
Maya: Besides me, she has to take care of my brother, his son and her niece, 30-year-old Mariam. Mariam has no mother, no father. She has no one but us. So, my mom sheltered her. Mariam is sick, she has intellectual disability, and her limbs are not developed. And now she has to take care of me too. I wonder how she manages to hold up.
Maria: “Don’t touch me, I’m in the house”
– Maya, what do you live on?
Maya: Our state believes that 185 GEL per month will be enough for a single sick mother. It’s good that mom brings food from the cafeteria – I am unable to do that. If not that there would be nothing to eat. I don’t even talk about my needs and problems. Medications are very expensive, a visit to the doctor is even more expensive, and a taxi… I can’t get to the clinic by public transport.
“Sorry for the details, I have a catheter that needs to be changed every two weeks. It’s absolutely impossible to call the nurse home And to change it that often either. I do it once a month, or even less often.
“Oh, God, take me away. It will be easier for me. Sometimes I lose all hope. I can’t live with this pain anymore. Please, bear with me…”
– Do you get a disability pension?
Maya: No! I can’t reach the right doctor. And I have to pay another 100 GEL for the certificate. How to do it with 180 GEL? I will do it if you teach me.
– Okay, I won’t ask any more questions. It’s terrible! I call on all our benefactors to help. Maybe someone will manage to give you advice on how to survive, what to do? What do you need today?
Maya: I really need a wheelchair. My mom suffers so much when she takes me to clinics. My neighbor let me borrow the old one, but it is not of the right size and can fall apart at any time. At home, I move around with a chair. They say there is special walker. I also need funds for treatment, for medications. Mom needs a washing machine. I can’t look at myself in the mirror. I look like a bum, not a woman. I would ask for foodstuffs, but there is no room to store them. I would also ask for diapers. I just can’t stand this anymore… I want to walk, work, take care of my son and my mother. I want to recall how I smiled, how I sang… I want to recall how it feels to be alive…
Maya wants to live, but she can’t. Her strength is running out. She gave up.
We were unable to continue the interview. Maya covered her face with her hands and started crying. She cried bitterly with no sound. There was nothing to talk about.
Maya wants to live, but she can’t. Her strength is running out. She gave up.
It’s little Saba who holds her, but he will not be able to hold his mother for a long time either.

This poor, broken woman needs our helping hands, she needs our help. She needs our strength. Our love. This is not a cry for help, Maya can no longer scream. Her eyes are looking at us, asking and waiting … But she has no strength to wait either.
She needs financial help for her treatment. She also needs medications, foodstuffs, diapers, a wheelchair, a washing machine and a bed.
