Talks about mom end with tears. 5-year-old Anna-Maria and 10-year-old Giorgi recently lost their mother. “She cried a lot, coughed a lot, and then flew to the sky,” says Anano. She is sure that it was her mother who asked us to come to their family. “She sent you to us. Will you tell her that we miss her very much? And if I draw a picture, will you give it to her?”

Alexander: My children experience a lot. Mari's death was a shock to us! She died within six months. Doctors treated her for asthma, and she had cancer. By the time they figured it out, it was already too late. She died in my arms. My kids saw it and still can't get over it.

Alexander: At first it was very hard. I cried with my children. But then I realized I should not do that - I should be both mom and dad for them.  It's so hard to be strong. It's so hard to live without a mother. I would gladly die instead of my wife, if only the children would have a mother. But God has His own plans for everything. 

“Together with mom there was much more fun”

Alexander: If you look at how we live, you will understand. I don't leave my kids hungry. I distribute the allowance so that there is always money for food - at least for bread, pasta, and beans. I work as a loader. I earn 5-10 GEL per day. But children need not only food. They wear rags, sleep on a collapsed bed, there is one tiny table and one chair. We have no appliances at all. Our house is like a primeval cave. It's cold and damp here and it is impossible to clean it.

Alexander: It’s our house. For 20 years they have been planning to demolish it and move us to a normal apartment - but as you can see, we still live here.

“We don’t have dolls because we have a very scary house”

Anna-Maria: That's why dolls don't come to me - because they're scared. Look how ugly it is. 

Anna-Maria: If you bring me a microphone, I'll sing for you. I can sing beautifully. I sing songs about my mother. I miss her. I sing about my mother and then cry. And I will cry now. Can you tell my mom that I love her very much?

Giorgi (10-year-old): After my mother died, my sister and I stopped quarreling. She asked us to love each other and only hug each other. Well, we don’t always hug each other and sometimes we don’t give in to each other, but it happens rarely. 

“No matter how tired I come home, Anna-Maria’s hugs bring me back to life”

Alexander: They are wonderful children. They helped me a lot to cope with the grief. When Anna-Maria sees that I am sad, she runs up to me and hugs me with her little arms. And when I come home very tired, Giorgi meets me with dinner. He fries potatoes or makes beans. My little angels. 

Anna-Maria: We have a very good dad. But our mom was the best! I wish she would come for just one minute.  I would hug and kiss her and let her go. 

Anna-Maria: To have chips and beautiful dresses. Do you know Emily? She performs on YouTube, and she has a lot of beautiful dresses! I think she is a real princess. I wonder, does she give her dresses to someone when they become small?

“I am eating beans, but I imagine that I’m eating something delicious”

Anna-Maria: Yes, I have, but these wishes are expensive. I want a "bicycle" and a tablet. And I also want money to buy juice for my brother. He loves juices very much. 

Giorgi: I also want a bike and a phone. I want to be a telephone technician when I grow up. There's a lot of tiny parts in there. And I love fixing everything. 

Giorgi: I fixed my friend's bike. As my dad says, I have golden hands. I'm a very good cook. If we had foodstuffs, I would cook all the time. And now I can only fry potatoes and cook vermicelli. 

"I must study hard to become a good phone fixer"

Giorgi: My mom to be alive. But I know it's impossible. So, when I made a wish for my birthday, I closed my eyes and imagined that my mother was alive and that she was giving me a bike. Can this wish come true for a good boy like me?

Anna-Maria: Who told you that you are good? Then I am good too.

Giorgi: Everyone tells me - everyone at school, and daddy too. 

"Our house looks like a cave of primitive people"

Alexander: As a single father I really need a washing machine. I no longer know when I should do laundry, cook and work... it's very difficult. My mom helps me, but she is old, and I can’t turn over my responsibilities to her. So, it is pretty harsh. I would also ask for a fridge. A small one – a big one will not fit here. I have one more dream, to buy a bed for my children. Look, where do they sleep. It’s a nightmare.
