Jambul: “I always have blood on my hands, and when I squeeze my fingers it hurts so much... But the worst thing is not even a blood, but that I suffocate during attacks. I am very scared, and my mother gets scared as well! And besides that, I have constant terrible itching! " “It makes him suffer so much!” - suddenly his compassionate mother intervenes. “Why should the child suffer so much?! Who has sinned so in our family? God help us! I would prefer to suffer myself instead of him..." “Sores do not heal for a long time. Sometimes you can’t find the ointment that helps. Sometimes you can... My hands itch very much in the evening and at night, they do not let me fall asleep... Sometimes I can’t even breathe because of the pain. Doctors say I have fungi in my blood... I don't even know how they got there..."

Project completed!

Jambul is only 9 years old but he speaks about his disease like an adult. He knows about the fungal infection in his blood, but he can’t understand how the fungi can grow there - blood is not a forest, where the fungi usually grow.

When his mom is not around, he can take care of himself. “You need to rinse the sore, dry the blood, then find something clean and bandage it. If you don’t do this, you may have problems! Pus will appear, and it's just awful! It is quite difficult to cure it! Eww, it’s disgusting! " - the boy explains to me

But it hurts his mom a thousand times more. God forbid all mothers from experiencing such feelings.

- Mariam, how did it happen?

Mariam: Jambul was only one year old when his hands became covered with sores and began to bleed. We worried a lot and took him to the doctor. They said it was nothing dangerous, that the babies touch everything and it’s because I just did not keep track of him.

The disease kept subsiding and reappearing again. They prescribed him different ointments and medications, which did not really help. Three years ago, we got to a good specialist who finally told us what my son was suffering from and that it was not a simple skin rash.

- And what was the reason?

Mariam: Blood tests showed that my son has a fungal infection in his blood.

- Ah, that's what Jambul meant when he said that he had a fungi forest in his blood ...

Mariam: Yes, he took this news that way. The standard antibody rate in a healthy person is 5 units, Jambul had 347! The doctors sounded the alarm. They prescribed him treatment and a strict diet.

We needed medications for 200 GEL for 10-day treatment course. We took a bank loan and managed to treat him for several months - the results were excellent... but we did not manage to complete the treatment. Our only income is a social allowance, and my husband’s parents give us their pension - if not for them we would not be able to cope. They are so nice!

- Well, the social allowance won’t be enough even for buying food.

Mariam: You are right, children need a lot of things! We have three more kids besides Jambul. The youngest one - Sofia - is 18-month-old, Andria is 4-year-old and a little beauty Barbare is 7-year-old. You had already chance to meet our eldest son. He is 9 years old.

I can give them nothing. While my husband was working our life was much easier. He’s a carpenter and a misfortune happened to him - his fingers got cut off by a machine. He can’t find job anymore; our village is small. And he can’t leave to another place for work and leave us alone for a long time. To be honest, I can’t even imagine how could we live without him. We are the family.

 - You talk about him with such love, as if you are just back from your honeymoon.

Mariam: You are right! We love each other very much! And his parents are like relatives for me! I almost grew up in their family. I was 17 when we got married. If not for them, I wouldn’t have coped alone! The children need so many things, but unfortunately, they are deprived of everything.

- Let’s ask them what they want. Who will be the first to answer?

Jambul: Let me start - I am the eldest. I’ve already told you about my fungi, so now I will tell you about something else.

- Come on! Tell me about your friends!

Jambul: Okay! I miss them very much! My friends are: Beka, Giorgi, Shota, and Avto! They are the best! We play ball together! Shotiko has a ball, but I don’t. They have bikes, and I don’t... But they are good friends, they lent me.

- Do you want to have your own bicycle?

Jambul: To be honest, I want a strawberry cake for my birthday! And I also want a computer. That’s it! Guys will lend the bike. Oh, and can a have a ball as well? I like so much all the ball games.

- Do you want to become a sportsman?

Jambul: No, I want to become a dentist.

- Wow, why so? Do you know what it is?

Jambul: Sure! It’s a dental doctor! I must become a dentist to treat mom’s teeth. She has very few teeth. Teeth treatment is very expensive! I want to cry when mom says that she does not need teeth.

- You’re are as good as gold! Is your sister as kind as you?

Jambul: Well, she wants to become a painter. Better talk to her.

Barbare: Yes, I will be a painter! And will buy myself a big doll and a blanket with Elsa and Anna! Andria wants a big car, tractor, ball, and something more. And bring a stroller for Sofia!

- Barbare, can you help Jambul when his hands hurt?

Barbare: Oh, no! When they hurt it even hurts to touch them. I want to cry when I see that!

- Mariam, you can address our readers! Tell them about your needs.

Mariam: I know it was God who directed you to me or me to you! I would have never asked for help if it were not for the desperate situation. We really need foodstuffs, diapers, and medications for Jambul. I’d also like to ask for a stroller for little Sofia. She is only one and a half years old but her stroller has already broken. We also really need a gas stove and a computer for Jambul.
