"Forgive me, I can't be a good mom"

Being a single mom in Georgia is a sentence! When your kids are little and you can't leave them alone to go to work, it's twice as hard. The meager allowance is enough for nothing, especially after the increase in food prices. “When I run out of money I literally turn into beggar: I have to ask for food either in the store, or from the neighbors,” - says mother Natia, hiding her face in her hands with shame. Every single day she asks her children to forgive her for not being able to be a good mother for them. Not for such a life, she asked the Lord to give her children!

She lost three children in seven years: one died during childbirth, another was born dead, and another did not even have time to be born - she had a miscarriage. But then God gave her a perfectly healthy boy, Irakli, and a beautiful daughter, Mariam. Her happiness knew no bounds! All the problems - unsettled state and the lack of their own apartment - used to fade when children's laughter sounded in the room. When her husband was by her, life was much easier. But alas, her husband preferred a different life - he left her for another woman. Natia was left alone. Her brother, who took care of her, died one year ago. And now this unfortunate, abandoned, and destitute woman is completely alone. And we, the citizens of Georgia, should take care of this family.

Irakli (7-year-old): If I ever have money, I will buy mum cups with hearts. Once we were walking near the store, and she liked them so much. She took them in her hands, looked at them for a long time, and then started crying and put them back.

“If I have money, I will buy my mother everything she wants and fill the house with food!”

- What do you think, why did she not buy them?

  Irakli: She never buys anything but flour and pasta. Even toys, even sweets, even tangerines. She has no money.

- What would you buy if you had money?

Irakli: First of all, I would buy this cup with hearts for my mother, then a doll in a stroller for my sister and lots and lots of food! To have food everywhere.

- And for yourself?

Irakli: Spider-Man costume. I want to become Spider-Man when I grow up.

- Why?

Irakli: Because he is strong, and I look like him.

- Girls are fond of strong boys, like Spider-Man. Are you fond of anyone?

Irakli: No, I am yet too little for that. I won't fall in love with anyone until I have my own house, car, and plenty of food. These are things for adults. Let’s talk about that when I grow up, okay?

- Sure! Natia, what did you hope for when you addressed the Fund?

Natia: It was not hope. You know, I follow your page and I know that you can help. Sometimes it seems to me that the entire Georgia stands side by side. You have already helped so many families even in our city. My situation is hopeless right now and I just can’t cope without help. When my children grow up, I can take them to school and kindergarten, and I will work. I am not embarrassed of doing any physical work. I will clean, wash, do laundry, if only I could buy something else for my children besides bread.

- What do your children eat besides bread and pasta?

  Natia: God gave me healthy children, and, thank God, they are not picky. They eat whatever we have at home. I keep myself away from the meat and dairy stores. I'm not even talking about sweets and fruits. Every penny counts for us. And my children know that. They don't even have toys. Irakli understands everything, but you can't explain it to Mariam - she wants to have a doll, like other girls have and she cries. I have to distract her. But what kind of childhood is it when you have no toys?

- What can make your life easier?

  Natia: First of all, I really need food, bedding and a bed for children. They are healthy, but I'm afraid that they can develop some disease living in such conditions. They also need clothes and shoes. That's it. This is my ultimate dream.

I don’t even have a whole plate. But what is it for if there is no food?

Irakli: Order cups with hearts and a doll for Mariam!

- I will do it for sure, I remember that. And a Spider-Man costume and a bicycle for you, right?

  Irakli: Seriously? For me? I will kiss everyone who will give me such a miracle!

“Still, I can’t believe that I will have a Spider-Man costume!”

Irakli does not believe in kindness, he does not believe that someone can give a gift just like that, just because he is a good boy. They never gave him gifts either for his birthday or for the New Year. Friends, do children have to live like this?
