When was the last time you saw something more heartbreaking? A brother and sister – Zaza and Tatia Abazashvili – digging through garbage. Zaza is nine. Tatia is twelve. Yes, these innocent children are looking for their “piece of happiness” in the trash. This is beyond terrible. It’s not just one family’s suffering—it’s a tragedy for all of humanity.
Tatia (12-year-old): “I try to go to the garbage dump when no one can see me because I’m ashamed. But in our village of Chumlaki, everyone already knows that my brother and I search for clothes in the trash. Some kids at school laugh at me. One classmate, who was seated next to me by our teacher, keeps arguing and begging to be moved to a different desk. ‘I don’t want to sit next to you,’ she says, ‘because you wear clothes you found in the trash.’”
Today was a lucky day for this poor girl. Do you know what made her happy? This torn robe. Someone had thrown it away. When Tatia spotted it, her eyes lit up – because she had nothing to wear this spring.
She put it on right away, standing there next to the dumpster. But does she deserve this? Does any child deserve to live like this?
Look at her, pulling trash bags from the dumpster, rummaging through them, hoping to find something “usable.” Horrific. Absolutely horrific.

This is how little Zaza searches through the trash…

Siblings – Zaza and Tatia Abazashvili
Nine-year-old Zaza cannot talk. He struggles to form words, barely making out sounds. But he is a smart, hardworking, and kind boy. Can you imagine how much a child suffers when he cannot express his feelings? But how can their mother afford a speech therapist when the entire family searches for clothes at the dump?
Look at him – his sad, desperate eyes fixed on a dirty plastic bag, hoping there’s something useful inside.
The Abazashvili Family. The youngest, one-year-old Nini, has run out of porridge. The family has no home. No belongings of their own.
Little Nini is hungry. Their mother’s eyes burn with pain and helplessness.
Tatia: “We have never had a home. We have always lived in rented places. Our neighbors know about our struggles, yet not one of them has ever brought us a plate of food. I have fainted from hunger. They know that my baby sister, Nini, is always hungry. But not one of them – while making porridge for their own children and grandchildren – has ever thought to give a single bowl to Nini.”
From the Fund: Dear readers, we have verified Tatia’s words. Her mother confirmed that every single one of them is true.
Can you really call someone human if they refused a bowl of porridge to this angel? We’ve seen countless stories of dogs nursing and saving starving kittens. So why has your heart turned to stone, human? God created you in His image. How can you look into this child’s eyes and not share even a piece of what you have? How can you feed your own children and grandchildren in peace, knowing that just outside your home, a little angel cries from hunger and cold? But of course… he’s not your child.
Far from the village, a frail boy drags fallen branches, struggling to carry them home so that his one-year-old sister won’t freeze.
Caught in the tangle of branches, he scratches himself—blood appears on his beautiful face.
But he doesn’t want his mother and sister to see his wounds. Yet the pain in his heart is far worse than the blood on his cheek…
Twelve-year-old Tatia takes an axe to the branches her sick brother gathered, chopping them into firewood to warm their baby sister.
In this old wooden house, a large, impoverished family has found temporary shelter. The mother cannot work—there is no one to care for her one-year-old child. The father is sick. This is how honest, hardworking people have been wronged by life…
They call it “bathroom”. Horrific. Absolutely horrific.
And this – this rusty heap of metal – is a broken, useless washing machine
Water leaks from the roof. There is no heating, no hot water, no proper bathroom. The children have no real beds, no TV, not even a small dresser. They search through the trash, hoping to find something useful.
You, kind-hearted people, understand how much this family needs your help. They would be grateful for anything – household essentials, furniture, appliances, clothing, food…
Who knows? Maybe, together, we can make a miracle happen – raise enough to buy these little angels a tiny home in the village.
No child deserves to look for hope and happiness in a dumpster. No child should have to dig through trash bags like a stray dog.
Dear friends of the Fund, Easter is coming. Jesus suffered to redeem our sins. He rose from the dead to save humanity. Let’s bring joy to the Son of God with our good deeds.
If all of Georgia unites – if each of us donates even the price of a pack of gum – these angels could finally live in human conditions. At the Fund, we truly believe that your generosity can make a home possible for this family. And when that day comes, we will all cry tears of joy alongside these precious little angels.
