Two elderly people. Two heavy, heartbreaking stories. And no one to turn to… Givi is 75. Glaucoma has nearly robbed him of his sight. His wife Olga is 85. She has become his eyes. Without our help, they won’t survive in this harsh world.

“Dear friends, I’m the same age as these wonderful people. In my youth, I spent a lot of time in Georgia – I had many friends in Gori. These kind people are my peers—and there’s a good chance I met them back then… At the time, I was far, far poorer than they were, and people like them would invite me to their table, share what they had, and even help me financially. Someday, I’ll write a book about those days… Now it’s my turn to help—and I do it with all my heart. I pray that God fills me with even more compassion. If you can, please visit them. If you can, bring them some groceries. If you can, help pay their debts or utility bills. I promise you, I’ll do my part too. But my mission in this life is to open the hearts of others – to help them see the joy in giving. That’s how I serve God, in gratitude for all He has given me. And if you’ve followed our page, you already know that.”

Givi (75 years old): “There is no greater misfortune than blindness. I suffer so much, I would rather lose my legs than my eyesight. I can’t even afford the eye drops that might save me from going completely blind. Is this really a life?”
Olga (85 years old): “You won’t find a family in greater need than ours in the entire village of Tkviavi.”
These elderly people are surviving on week-old bread. Can you imagine? And there’s no one to help them. That’s why their only hope is you—kind-hearted people!
Not long ago, Olga fell and broke her arm. The poor woman had to undergo major surgery. Doctors had to reconstruct her arm and insert metal implants.
She now needs medical check-ups, but the family doesn’t even have enough money for a basic X-ray. They don’t have a washing machine either. Just imagine how hard it is for an 85-year-old woman to wash and wring out laundry with one hand.
Olga: “My darling girl, it’s so shameful… This place we live in—it’s falling apart. To be honest, it’s not even a house anymore… more like a chicken coop. The roof leaks, the walls are crumbling. I’m so scared that if an earthquake ever hits, the whole thing will come down like a house of cards… and we’ll be trapped underneath.”
“The house is damp and full of mold. We’re always getting sick. Just a few days ago, I had pneumonia – I nearly died.”
Olga: “Givi has a heart of gold. He raised my daughter as his own – while her biological father abandoned her. Our only daughter is sick, she lives in poverty, and she needs help herself. We went through a terrible tragedy – the loss of our only grandchild. He was only nine months old…
Grandmother Olga worked as a janitor for thirty years. Her kind heart is known throughout the entire Gori district. Despite living in extreme poverty, she shares her bread with ten homeless cats. And when she feeds them, she says: “I’d rather go hungry than let the animals die.” This is what true kindness is, my friends! May the Lord reward this grandmother richly! Helping a stranger is the most important thing we can do in this life to please God and draw closer to Him.

“As long as we live, we will bless the friends of the Fund and pray for their health! You gave us another year of life. And what a year it was! We lived it with dignity – just as elderly people should – not like dogs left to die under a fence. Kind and sweet couple – Grandma Oliko and Grandpa Givi- are overjoyed at this miracle of salvation. We’re grateful to all the Fund’s friends for giving our elderly a dignified life in their golden years! And when the time comes to stand before the Lord, they will surely speak of your kindness!

Grandpa Givi has anemia and glaucoma; he’s almost blind. Grandma Oliko still can’t lift her arm after a fracture and surgery. Despite being overwhelmed by poverty and illness, they are still together. They were ready to die together – under the rotting roof of their 100-year-old clay house. From the wet walls and pneumonia… or from moldy bread – too awful to eat, yet there’s nothing else.
Upon learning of their situation, friends of the Chernovetsky Fund instantly resolved: they couldn’t let these individuals perish! They built them a new, sturdy roof. They built them a new, sturdy roof. Grandma Oliko can’t stop admiring it – every day she goes outside just to take another look. The Fund also sent a window and door specialist, who swiftly removed the old frames and doors and installed new metal-plastic ones.
The couple got a new gas stove. What a miracle! Grandma Oliko doea not need matches anymore. No more struggling with damp matches!
And when she saw a washing machine, she hugged the Fund’s staff and even cried with joy.
Grandpa Givi used to sleep outside, resting his head on a tree stump – he was so tired of his broken iron bed. Oh, how gladly Grandma Oliko came to bring him back inside when the new beds were assembled: “Lie down, Givi. Get some real rest. Now you can finally sleep like a human being.”
Grandma Oliko only went to school for four years, but she really wanted to write you a thank-you note. Here’s her letter.
She also asked us to pass along this message: “I will pray for all our helpers until the Lord hears me. As long as I’m alive, as long as I can feel joy, I’ll never forget your kindness. Thank you so much! May the families of our benefactors be healthy and live long lives.”
Below is our plan for how we’ll continue to help the Giguashvili family.
1. Grandma Oliko urgently needs a medical examination for her arm. Unable to afford her doctor’s prescribed treatment for months, she’s lost mobility in her arm!
2. The clay house where the old couple lives is 100 years old. The side and back walls are crumbling. They urgently need reinforcement.
3. The floor at the entrance is bare earth. When it rains, everything turns to mud. It needs to be covered with concrete.
4. The old chairs in the house are falling apart. It’s dangerous for the elderly to use them – they could get hurt. They need new chairs.
5. A small kitchen must be set up.
Let these dear old people live a little longer. Lord, we are so happy for them here at the Fund!
