A heartbreaking scene unfolded before the fund’s correspondent when he visited 10-year-old Giorgi. The Georgian child sat under the scorching sun in a rusty, visibly crumbling wheelchair, tearfully watching neighborhood children play on the playground directly in front of him… The distance between Giorgi and the playing children was just one meter. Yes, only one meter separates this doomed child from complete happiness!

Ten-year-old Giorgi can neither walk nor talk. But what’s most terrifying, and utterly unforgivable on the part of officials, is that this Georgian boy has never been properly examined by anyone.
Why has this Georgian child been sentenced to such unbearable suffering? Who will take responsibility? Let’s be honest, dear friends: if we don’t help him, no one will.
Giorgi struggles to communicate with his mother using his hands when he wants to say something. But instead of words, there are only tears and plaintive sounds. It’s heartbreaking. All this – because of brain damage at birth. Not a single doctor has been held accountable for what happened, even though it was their lack of professionalism that led to this tragedy.
Giorgi’s body is almost completely paralyzed. Ten years of suffering. Ten years of pain. Ten years of fear and hopelessness… Yet there’s a real possibility that with proper medical examinations and surgery, Giorgi could regain the life God intended for him. And we believe that he will – because the friends of our Fund will not leave Giorgi to face his sorrow alone.
We are confident: with a thorough medical evaluation, Giorgi’s health can greatly improve. However, another problem is that the boy’s parents are not just poor, but literally homeless: no home, no property… Thankfully, a kind relative has temporarily taken them in.

Giorgi is at an age when he should be laughing, playing, running with friends, and swimming in the river… But cruel fate stole his childhood the moment he was born. Is there a greater injustice? What could be more painful than a child’s heart filled with sorrow? What could be more tragic than seeing despair and hopelessness in a child’s eyes? And yet, Giorgi’s heart is full of kindness. When you look into Giorgi’s eyes, you see a gentle soul. But you also see a plea… You can see it in his gaze –
because, as they say, the eyes are the window to the soul. When you look into Giorgi’s eyes, you see a gentle soul. But you also see a plea… A plea to escape the rusted wheelchair that holds him back… A plea to join the other kids playing soccer just meters away.
Poor Giorgi’s mother – Marika – is only 29. Her hell began when she was just 19, an age when she should’ve been celebrating the birth of her son. Imagine the pain she felt watching other mothers stroll through the park with babies in fancy prams—while she pushed her son in a wheelchair.
Try to picture that moment, even for a second. What must a mother feel in that situation?
Marika (29-year-old): “When I see moms out with their children in beautiful strollers or riding bikes together, I’m happy for them… But then I look at my son in that rusted wheelchair. You know what I feel? It’s like someone is stabbing a knife into my heart.
When I take Giorgi to the park, I try to steer him away from the rides – so it won’t hurt him to see what he’s missing. But he’s so sweet… When he sees his peers on the rides, he gestures with his hands that he wants to go to them. And then… Then he just silently watches others play. God, I wish I would die instead… No one knows what happens in my son’s heart at that moment… And it’s impossible to describe in words…”

After Giorgi’s difficult childhood, his poor mother no longer has the means to take him for consultations. As for treatment and operations, there’s no hope at all. Only massage courses. But that’s not enough. Can a massage help a child who can’t even sit independently in a wheelchair?

Giorgi’s mother is in despair. Not even a glimmer of hope remains for her. Do you know why? Because the Khupenia family is literally living in limbo. Let me explain what that means, dear readers. Unfortunately, the family does not own their own home. They are temporarily living with relatives in Zugdidi.
Yes, the poor mother and son have no permanent address. And without a registered residence, they don’t qualify for state support for treatment or surgery.
Meanwhile, Giorgi’s condition is worsening. His chance to ever walk is slipping away. Delayed treatment or postponed surgery may become useless. So, dear Georgians, we must come together once more – to save Giorgi.
To be fair, we should note that even occupied Abkhazia has tried to help this family. Yes, the Abkhazians – our brothers – did what they could for this sick child. And we at the Fund truly believe they gave all they could.
But Giorgi’s condition is serious. He urgently needs costly tests and medical evaluations. We believe this message will reach not only Georgians in Samegrelo, Kakheti, Adjara, and Shida Kartli, but also our brothers in Abkhazia. So we appeal to everyone: let’s unite for a great and noble cause, let’s give Giorgi a joyful childhood and a dignified future.
It doesn’t matter which side of the “border” you’re on. We’re not talking about politics, and we’re not spreading propaganda. We at the Fund believe that God never set borders between people, between kindness and love. So we turn to all people, in all regions – regardless of religion, faith, or political beliefs:
Let’s unite in the name of kindness. Let’s unite in the name of love. Let’s unite to save this child…
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Zugdidi.

Look at Giorgi’s face! Look closely into his kind eyes! Do you remember how he used to suffer in that old, broken wheelchair? And how much joy shines in his eyes today! Together with joy, those kind eyes radiate immense gratitude – To you! To all of you, dear friends of the Fund! May you, too, always be as happy as this one more happy Georgian boy!

YOU HELPED – THANK YOU!

Look at this face! Together with joy, his kind eyes radiate enormous gratitude – to you, to all of you, dear friends of the Fund, to every single person who helped this suffering child, even a little. Indeed, kindness bears fruit quickly.
That old, broken wheelchair with its ruined wheels is now in the past. From today, this sweet boy will be rolling through the beautiful meadows of Samegrelo in his new wheelchair.
He’ll go to school in this comfortable wheelchair, too. And when he plays tag with his friends – no one will be able to catch Gio!
Giorgi, 10 years old: “Auntie, look! Just like a car has gears, this chair has them too! Now I’ll switch to the fastest one!
Auntie, this is sooo cool! It feels like I’m driving a real car!”
From the Fund’s correspondent: Several times I noticed how the boy’s eyes drifted toward the gate. At first, I didn’t understand why. But then I read it in his eyes – his heart could hardly contain so much joy. He couldn’t wait to show everyone his new wheelchair.
So we walked around the whole neighborhood together. From the houses with lovely Megrelian gardens came kind words from the neighbors.
Gio introduced me to his friends, too. I even overheard them whispering: “Gio, shall we play tag this evening?” And Gio smiled mischievously – he already knew that now no one could ever catch him.

This photo was taken this summer, when representatives of the Chernovetskyi Fund first visited the Khupenia family. Because of the broken wheels, the boy couldn’t move around on his own. The little angel suffered, and his poor mother suffered no less.
Marika (29 years old): “No words can express the gratitude and emotions overflowing in my heart right now. We lived in Abkhazia – that’s where we first heard about the good deeds of the Chernovetskyi Fund’s friends. Tears well up in my eyes… Complete strangers accepted my child as if he were their own.
This letter may have few words, but my gratitude comes from the bottom of my heart and soul.”
From the Fund’s correspondent: Dear friends, this poor 29-year-old mother is raising another small child alongside Gio. The family lives in extreme poverty.
They pay 350 lari a month for this modest home. It’s already very cold – there’s no stove, no gas, no electric heater. And the frosty winter is already knocking at the door.
Friends of the Fund, can we really allow the child’s joy over his new wheelchair to last only a few days? Can we allow that kind little face to turn blue from the cold?
a stray dog gave birth to puppies right at their doorstep. And the Khupenia family is ready to share their last piece of bread to feed the mother dog and her newborn pups.
That’s what happens when a person’s heart is filled with God’s love: poverty cannot stop them from doing good.
At the Fund, we believe that you, kind and faithful people,
will once again share a part of your goodness with the Khupenia family. Let us not forget this young mother, who for ten years has been selflessly fighting so that her son can stand on his two feet.

Apart from a heater, any household item – furniture, appliances – would be a tremendous help to this family.
Join us.
Together, let’s keep growing fields of kindness
on our beautiful homeland.
