On that tragic day – July 7, 2022 – a father of five small children came home empty-handed, unable to earn enough for food. When he opened the door and saw the hungry, expectant eyes of his children, he said nothing. He walked into another room, broke down in tears… and hanged himself. Lord, forgive him… forgive this broken soul! There is no greater agony for a loving parent than seeing their children go hungry. Let us pray together that the Almighty will forgive His servant.

Five children now embrace and gently stroke the cold stone of their beloved father’s grave… Khvicha worked as a shepherd.
He toiled from before dawn until late at night, hoping to earn just a few extra laris to feed his children. But no matter how hard he worked, it was never enough.
A tragedy… A father of five, crushed by unbearable poverty, ended his life in his own home.

Sofio, the children’s mother (28 years old): “How can I keep living without you, my love? Why did you leave us? You know how much the children and I miss you? Every day without you is pure hell…”

It’s hard to comprehend the pain Sofio has endured at just 28. She was left alone with five children and no means to survive – essentially homeless. The house where her husband took his life had broken windows, a leaking roof, and was falling apart. It became impossible to live there. The family had to move into a rental.
Sofio: “We survive on social allowance and orphan pensions. My mother is gravely ill with cancer – she needs help herself. There’s nowhere else to turn. We had no choice but to ask the kind people at the Chernovetskyi Fund for help. I will pray every day for everyone who lends us a hand. May God bless you!”
When a Fund reporter visited these little angels, there wasn’t even bread in the home. The children immediately brought him to the empty refrigerator – not a single item inside.
Lizi (13-year-old): “We don’t have food. We often fall asleep hungry but try not to show it – we don’t want to upset mom. We feel so sorry for her and help her with everything. The gas stove doesn’t work, so she can’t even cook for us.”
Lizi: “Our poor mom washes our clothes by hand – she doesn’t have a washing machine.”
Lizi: “There are only two beds for the six of us, and even those are old and falling apart.”
Six-year-old Nia is supposed to start first grade this year. But her mom can’t afford school supplies, a backpack, clothes, or shoes. Who will get her ready for school, if not us? Friends, imagine this were your child – please help this orphan!
After her husband’s death, Sofio began experiencing serious health issues: her vision goes dark, she feels dizzy, and her legs go numb and give out. But the young woman can’t afford a doctor’s visit. She’s not thinking about herself – all that matters is that her children don’t go hungry. She’s anxious. She’s scared. She doesn’t want to die. She wants to LIVE — for the sake of her children.
How can we help the family? First and foremost — with food. A working gas stove and a washing machine would ease the life of this grieving widow. They also desperately need beds, bedding, clothes, shoes, and toys. The children have no phones, no computer.
If all of Georgia comes together, we can buy them a small house. We must not allow these children to end up on the street. These are kind, sweet children who still believe in goodness, in miracles. They are ours. They are Georgians.
Their mother – alone, exhausted, but still standing – is holding on with the last of her strength. Help her! We can’t bring their father back, but we can be there for his children. Let’s do exactly that.
God-fearing people! The soul of their departed father will find peace in Heaven only when he sees that his children are warm, fed, and safe from the rain dripping through the roof.
