“Auntie… I often took an empty lunchbox to school and pretended my mom had packed food for me. I was too embarrassed to admit that we had nothing to eat at home.”
REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO GOD!

When I – a journalist for the Chervonetski Fund – stepped into the Ishkhneli family’s dilapidated home, I was greeted by a real princess. Even someone more beautiful than a princess.

I noticed the child was shivering from the cold. I asked her to put on something warmer. The girl blushed and quietly said:
“Auntie… I don’t have anything warmer than this jacket.”
Tonight’s “dinner” for 7-year-old Tamara is a piece of bread. She will go to bed with an empty stomach again.
You may think that at least in her dreams she escapes somewhere bright: pink clouds, fairy tales, magical worlds… Maybe you imagine she becomes a princess there. But here is the cruel twist of fate –
Tamara is afraid to fall asleep. When it rains, the water drips straight through the ceiling and falls onto her as she sleeps. The roof and ceiling are so damaged that the house is about to collapse.
God forbid we ever hear that a little angel was found under the rubble…
Many nights she has spent sitting in a chair because lying down in a soaked bed was impossible.
Tamara (7-year-old): “Whenever I visit my classmates, I think… how wonderful it would be to have a home like theirs. I don’t envy them, Auntie. I’m happy that they are happy. A soft, fluffy bed – that’s my dream. But even if it came true… what’s the point, Auntie? It would get wet too when it rains – our whole ceiling is falling apart, and when it pours outside, it pours inside.”
Dear friends… you can imagine the terrible misery this angel-faced little girl is living in.
And here is Tamara’s brother – 12-year-old Tamaz. One look into his eyes is enough to understand what a big, kind soul stands before you. Look closely – and you will see how poverty is stealing his childhood, his lightness, his hopes for the future. Yet he is so smart, so gentle – he deserves to grow into a real man, someone his country would be proud of.
Tamaz (12-year-old): “Auntie, when I started first grade and didn’t know anyone yet, I was ashamed to say that Mom couldn’t pack me food. When everyone was eating the sandwiches their moms made, I lied that I ‘already ate.’ A few times I even felt sick from hunger. I took an empty lunchbox to school so the kids would think I had food too.”
Besides 7-year-old Tamara and 12-year-old Tamaz, the Ishkhneli family has two more children: 14-year-old Giorgi and 16-year-old Anna. Both have brain damage.
You can understand what a heavy burden their single mother carries.
And winter is coming. In fact… you can already feel the cold setting in. The children huddle together for warmth. An icy wind moves through the room. How will these children stay warm in winter? There is no heater. No TV.
There isn’t even a bathroom – in winter the little ones wash in a basin, in a freezing house…

Hungry herself, Tamara still shares her piece of bread with a puppy. She found the tiny puppy on the street – its eyes not even open yet. Someone had thrown it out near a dumpster in a cardboard box.
Journalist from the Fund: Tamara, very soon all of Georgia will know your story. Many kind people will appear. What is the wish you would ask to come true?
The girl thought for a moment and whispered: “That when it rains, water won’t drip on me and my brothers anymore. That we could sleep in a soft bed. That’s what I want most… Auntie… and also… for New Year, I wish we had a TV. Ours broke two years ago. Last year we didn’t have a TV, or tasty food, or sweets. We looked out the window and saw how other families were celebrating… And I dream that we could celebrate too…”
The father left the family. He started a new one.
“Auntie… but still… there is no one in the world I love as much as my dad…”
As I was about to leave, Tamara looked at me as if asking to speak with me alone.
“Auntie… can I ask for something? You’re going to tell kind people about us… please pass on one request…”
— Of course, my beautiful girl. Go ahead.
“The puppy is still very little. He shouldn’t eat bread – it makes his stomach hurt. Maybe kind people could help with puppy food? And he needs to get his shots. He doesn’t have a mother. I’m his mother…”
Her words brought tears to my eyes.
My God… how can such a tiny child have such a huge heart?
Dear friends… at the Fund we believe that you will open your hearts to these children – left without a father, without warmth, without protection.
We believe that by New Year their home will have a heater, a TV, and soft, warm beds. But the most urgent thing is to repair the roof and replace the windows and doors.

There’s so little time… winter is already upon them.
Reach out to help these children – and may the Lord keep your own children under His protection.
