REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO GOD!

Eighteen months after being discharged from the maternity ward, the poor mother brought little Susanna not home – but straight into a barn.  You, reading these lines now, probably thought the foundation’s journalist made a typo and wrote “barn” instead of “home.”  How we wish that were true…But sadly, it is not.

Our poor little girl may be the first child in Georgia whose life after the maternity ward did not begin in a house, but in a barn. And today, this very barn is what she calls her “home”.

IF SHE COULD TALK, SHE WOULD SURELY SAY: “Uncle major, it’s uncomfortable for me to disturb the cow while she sleeps!  Please help me, Uncle!”

The Paloyan family lives in a remote southwestern village of Georgia, where winter is not just cold — it is long and merciless. Here, snow is not decoration, but a trial that lasts for months.

Their house is half destroyed. But the worst thing is not the cracked walls or crooked doors.

In this home, people live together with cows.  The livestock occupies one room. The family lives in the other.

The smell is impossible to describe politely. It seeps into clothes, skin, breath. This is an environment where it is impossible to feel human – let alone be a child.

Damp air, dirt, cold, and the constant presence of animals have become their daily reality, not a temporary hardship.

There is no heating here. To keep warm, they burn cow dung.

This is the dung the family uses in winter instead of firewood to survive the cold.

This is not an image. Not a metaphor. It is their only source of warmth.

The parents and children in this family develop differently from most people.

They struggle to orient themselves, to understand complex things, to defend themselves, and to ask for help.

They do not know how to complain loudly. They cannot explain how bad things really are. They simply live – as best they can.

And what they can do is very little. They have almost nothing: no proper conditions, no resources, no reserves of strength. The children grow up in an environment where cold is the norm, the smell is the background, and the absence of choice is the only reality.

They do not know that life can be different – not because they don’t want to, but because there is no one to show them.

This is not a story about poverty as a statistic. This is a story of a life where humans and livestock share the same space because there is simply no alternative.

This is the children’s grandmother, also named Susanna. Look at the face of this elderly woman. Every wrinkle tells the story of a lifetime of pain. But her eyes… her eyes are stronger than life’s injustice. Yes, her eyes are as pure and sincere as her heart. The eyes are the window to the soul. One glance is enough to understand: her soul hurts… she simply tries to hide that pain behind a modest smile. Sometimes such a smile is more bitter than tears.

With hands stiff from cold, worn out by hard labor, cut by age, she tightly pressed her granddaughter to her chest. When I, a journalist from the Chernovetskyi Fund, looked at Susanna’s grandmother through the camera lens, I felt ashamed of myself.

I was wearing a warm coat, while the grandmother stood in seven degrees below zero, wearing only a light jacket. I had warm boots – while the poor old woman wore thin house slippers.

I was happy about the approaching New Year. And in her eyes lived sorrow. Unspoken pain… Quiet longing… Yet the kind that “shouted” so loudly it seemed its voice reached all the way to the sky.

It “shouted” about the winter that creeps into the house. About the warmth gained from dry dung. About people who cannot speak for themselves – and therefore need someone to speak for them.

To survive the winter, this family desperately needs the most basic things: food, an electric stove, warm clothing, blankets, mattresses. Do these children really not deserve a warm New Year? Do the children in this family really not deserve a warm New Year?

With a heavy heart, I left the village of Bozaleti looking into the rearview mirror at the silhouette of the elderly woman. Her steps, left on the white snow… The heavy bucket, full of water, in hands weakened by years of hard labor… The scarf on her gray hair… She walked, leaving her trace on the snow…

This is not an exaggeration. This is not an exception. This is a reality that exists quietly, far away, and almost unnoticed.

If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Akhalkalaki Municipality, village Bozali.
