Granny, I sold scrap metal and bought you medication! Please don't die! Be alive, my dear!

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO THE WORK OF MERCY!

In the morning he goes to school, and then he goes to the port for scrap... He needs to collect a lot of iron "junk" to get some money to buy medications for his grandmother. This is the daily routine of 12-year-old Temur. He remembers how his grandmother looked after him, how she told him fairy tales, how she stroked his cheek with her delicate wrinkled hand and said: "You are my light, you are my hope, you are my everything!"

"Now it's my turn to take care of you, grandma"

Now he's trying to be just that. It hurts his granny. She cries and asks him not to do this again. But how can a real Georgian man leave his dear grandmother without medications? These little hands are supposed to play computer games, draw, play the piano, but not to collect tons of scarp... But apparently, they are destined to have such a fate.

In winter, he collects the metal with these hands... His skin cracks, the fingers hurt, but this does not prevent him from going to the dump again and again...

Khatia: My poor boy has been unlucky since birth. His father immediately abandoned him, and put me before a choice, saying: “Either me or him!” Of course, I chose my son, and we have not seen his father after that.

-You are telling me such terrible things! Why did it happen so? Did not he want to have child?

Khatia: He really wanted to have a son. He waited for him... While I was pregnant, he was the happiest person, and he was so nice to me. Temo he had a defect when he was born – a fist-size lump on his head. He said that he did not want to be the father of a disabled person, that it was a shame for him, and he told me to take our son to an orphanage. But how could I give away my child? Do moms do that?

“When I went to collect scarp for the first time, I felt embarrassed. But then I realized: why should I be embarrassed? I don't steal!"

  - Did you manage to make his father change his mind?

Khatia: In no way. He said: "Either I, or he!" You can see for yourself what I chose. So, we haven't seen him for 12 years. There's no sign of him. But we have learned to survive.

“We will manage to cope - they will help us”

  - How do you manage to? What do you live on? What is your income?

Khatia: We get a social allowance of 150 GEL. 100 GEL out of these 150 GEL is kept by the bank. One year ago, I had to take out a loan for Temo's operation - he had his polyps removed. We took 2000 GEL loan, and we will have to pay off 100 GEL per month for four years! Is it okay? The bank will take almost twice as much from us! We don't have any benefits. We also leave 90 GEL to the bank from my mother's pension. We took out a loan three years ago when she needed to be operated on her heart. There are 18 moths left to pay it off. And we try to survive with the rest of the money.

  - What is it enough for?

Khatia: My mother got bedridden after a stroke. She needs expensive medications and diapers. It takes about 150 GEL per month. Temo has asthma. He also takes medications. Doctors said that by the age of 16 he would feel better. We pay about 50 GEL per month for his medications. Plus utilities - and that's it! I go out to clean, take care of one sick woman when they call me. Temo collects and sells scrap after school. Sometimes he manages to earn up to 30 lari per day. He brings medications and diapers to his grandmother. When I have no job, one can say that he, a 12-year-old boy, keeps the family!  I am so ashamed in front of him. He has no childhood. Once, when my mother and I were sick, he brought 100 kilos of metal to a scrap metal recycler in one day... I don’t know how he managed to.

Temo (12-year-old): But I have a mother and a grandmother! I will take care of you as long as I can!

“I remember all the fairy tales that you told me, all the songs that you sang to me ...”

-Temo, I’ve only read about boys like you in books! But it turns out they really exist! Any woman would love to be your wife!

Temo: What are you talking about? What woman? What wife? I have no time for that now. Anyone in my place would have done the same! I'm not a little boy to wait when my mom earns money; my granny needs medications. Look how cute she is. I remember how she caressed me and played with me when I was little. Now it's my turn to take care of her.

- Do you have time to study, to play?

Temo: Yes. I go to school. I can't say that I am a good student, but I do my best. And I have nothing to play with... Sometimes a neighbor boy allows me to sit at his computer. But they don’t lend me bikes... Well, I probably wouldn’t lend my bike to anyone either. Although, who knows. I never had it.

- What are you and your grandmother usually talking about? What are you telling her?

Temo: Well, I tell her how I studied, what's new, how many kilograms of scrap metal I sold, how much I earned. She starts crying, takes my hand and kisses it. And I take her hand and kiss it. I love her very much.

“If only my granny was comfortable, and I can sleep on the floor”

Khatia, how can we make your life easier?

Khatia: I addressed you, in particular, because of foodstuffs, medications for my mother and diapers. I have nothing, I even cook food at my neighbor’s place, I store food in her refrigerator. We have no proper beds - but this is not that important for us. I don't want people to spend money on me. But we won’t be able to survive without medications and food.

  -  Temo, what are you dreaming about? Personally, for you?

Temo: I really want a computer I still dream of a bicycle. I thought I’d find an old, broken one, and that I’ll fix it myself.  I came across various metal stuff, but I didn’t get a bike. What a pity.

***

The only thing I want now is to go to Poti, find Temo, hug him, warm his hands... I want him to never again have to do things that are too much for a child. I wish the only metal thing he would carry would be his brand-new bicycle. And the only thing he would have to decide is to watch a movie in the evening or go for a drive with friends... Well, children should not take on such a burden. But he will not stop doing this hard work until his grandmother has all the necessary medications. He won't stop collecting scrap metal. And we are the only people who can change his life! Not others, but us. You and me! And your friends with whom you will share this story!

They don't need much. They only need food, medications, diapers, and beds. And Temo needs a laptop and a bike!

You can visit them yourself and get to know this wonderful boy. Just do not fall in love with him - he is not up to love yet! Their address is: Poti, 30A Javakhishvili Street

Every time you can help someone, just do it and rejoice that God answers someone's prayers through you!
