“I sometimes want to die from the pain and incessant itching. Sometimes, the pain is so intense that it clouds my vision, and even medications do not always cope with it. It’s tough for a single person to stretch their pension to cover all their needs.” – says Julietta, trying not to show desperation in her words. “Every step is given to me with great difficulty. Every step for me is pain.”

“I sometimes want to die from the pain and incessant itching.”
“Sometimes, the pain is so intense that it clouds my vision, and even medications do not always cope with it. It’s tough for a single person to stretch their pension to cover all their needs.” – says Julietta, trying not to show desperation in her words.
“Every step is given to me with great difficulty. Every step for me is pain.”
– Why are you alone, Julietta? You’re such a beautiful and remarkable woman. I’m sure there were many men who dreamed of starting a family with you.
Julietta: I was married. But my husband died 25 years ago. I truly loved him, but I won’t hide the fact that after he passed away, my family and friends urged me to remarry. However, I resisted. I remained faithful to my husband! We experienced a tragedy that he couldn’t endure!
“My one-year-old son got scalded. He fought with death for a long time, but couldn’t survive.”
– What happened?
Julietta: We were happy, but family happiness was not complete. Then our long-awaited son was born. God, how much we loved him! He was our souls’ delight. When our son was one year old and he had just started walking, he accidentally spilled boiling water on himself! Burns covered his whole body! His face, tummy, hands… we barely managed to bring him to the hospital alive; he was losing consciousness from the pain! The doctors said they couldn’t save him – the burns were incompatible with life. During that period, we sold everything we had – the house, all valuable possessions – everything. He fought for a long time, but they couldn’t save him.
– God! I can’t even imagine what you went through!
Julietta: I wouldn’t wish such a thing on my worst enemy! After that, I started having heart problems, and on the nervous ground, a terrible skin disease developed – psoriasis. And my husband couldn’t withstand such a blow and died. He left me alone! To avoid going insane with grief, I decided to adopt a child. A boy. I raised him as my own son… but
“Every day, I face a choice – whether to buy medication or groceries.”
– Where is he now? Why do you live alone?
Julietta: It hurts me to tell about that, but since you asked – I’ll tell you. When he turned 18, he found his biological mother, his real mother, and left to live with her. The heart wants what it wants. I don’t know how to explain in words how hard it was for me, how worried I was. But I let him go. I did not give him birth, but I love him as a mother. The most important thing for mom is for her child to be happy. And now he is where he feels good. Let’s close this topic. It is really hard for me to speak about that.
“Music is the only thing that keeps me in this world”
– Sure! Tell us about yourself. I see many diplomas and certificates on the wall, tell us about them.
Julietta: I’ve been leading the folk ensemble ‘Mapshalia’ (which means ‘Singing Bird’ in Megrelian) for many years now. I’ve spent so many years in this ensemble! They call me a veteran. Music is my only way of life. It has helped me through the toughest moments. In Zugdidi, everyone knows me, and they love me very much. But I can’t take advantage of their love. Everyone has their own problems, their own children. I have been living in a social dormitory for many years… Everyone here is just like me: socially vulnerable, poor, but the kindest people! They’ll share their last piece with you.
‘I’m proud of my achievements; people in the city love and respect me very much.’
‘Every certificate, every diploma is like my own child.’
– I believe that poverty shouldn’t strip Georgian artists of their dignity. We should respect you. What can we do to help you feel human?
Julietta: The most important things in life for me are the respect and love of people. But materially, I have nothing of my own. I’ve sold everything and haven’t been able to accumulate or create any comfort for myself. How can one save for a TV when one’s constantly faced with the choice of buying medication or spending on food? Getting old, I long to make lonely evenings a bit brighter. I turn on the radio or sing… but there are so many interesting movies on TV to watch… and that’s my dream. One more thing – I don’t even have a refrigerator or a washing machine. I used to wash by hand, and I would continue, but my illness is progressing! Psoriasis doesn’t leave me in peace. When detergent powder comes into contact with my skin, it becomes inflamed. Sometimes, the pain makes me want to tear off all my skin! I know, I’m asking for luxury items, but I can’t survive without them.
“You especially feel your loneliness in the evenings. And I don’t even have a TV to distract.”- No way!
“In the evenings I listen to my old radio or play the panduri and sing my heart out.”
– Oh! How can you do without them – a lonely person with such ailments?! You can’t wash laundry with your hands.
Julietta: Thank you for taking my request to heart! I didn’t want to hear about addressing the Fund at first. I had my doubts. But then they told me that it’s not just a Fund – it’s the Chernovetskyi Fund. I found out that you don’t discriminate between small and big troubles, that you help sick children and large families. And it warmed my heart to know that you remember and respect lonely elderly people as well! God sees everything. We all will get old. And only God knows what old age awaits us.
In this world where the hustle and bustle have become the norm, where each of us is absorbed in our own worries, there lives a woman, a lone soul, who conceals her pain with a smile. Her name is Julietta. She may seem strong and independent, but in her eyes, one can see hidden loneliness and bitterness.
Today, we turn to you, our dear friends, to give Julietta what she needs most – the warmth of our hearts, support, and understanding. Perhaps you feel that your own concerns and problems are too important to pay attention to a lonely woman. But sometimes, even the smallest act of kindness and attention can change someone’s life.
Let’s together make this world a warmer and more humane place for every lonely soul, like Julietta.
If you are willing to visit Julietta and help her in person, here is her address: Zugdidi, 2 Tabukashvili Str, Second turn, Pension for the socially disadvantaged.
Every time you can help someone, just do it, and rejoice that God answers someone’s prayers through you!
We are sure that all together we will manage to save the unfortunates from imminent death.
