“I’m not afraid to open the wardrobe anymore, there are no mice in there,” says Mariam. “In the old wardrobe, they used to live and squeak annoyingly, and we had to put mouse repellent to get rid of them. But in the new one, see, there are only our beautiful clothes—new jeans, blouses, overalls…” “And I’m not afraid to sleep anymore,” says her sister Anano. “The new bed won’t turn into a horror attraction at night. Its legs don’t break, and it doesn’t collapse.” Poor girls! The Barbakadze family endured a lot of hunger and poverty before turning to the Chernovetskyi Fund for help. Friends, if any of you can give the girls a summer vacation, it would mean the world to them. Mariam and Anano have never had a holiday and are spending this summer in the sweltering city. Maybe it’s possible?! They dream of it so much, even when there’s no food in the house. The farther the dream, the more desired it is.

0901200270SOS! We sound the alarm! Children and their mother could die of hunger! Due to constant malnutrition, the children are seriously ill! They are unfortunate victims of domestic violence and the heartlessness of local authorities!
MAKE A REPOST IMMEDIATELY, KIND PERSON! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!
This week, 10-year-old Mariam lost consciousness from hunger. Is it really possible in our time? Due to constant malnutrition, the girl has stopped growing and suffers greatly from it! She’s 10 years old, but her body is like a first grader’s! And can children develop normally and stay healthy by eating bare pasta?! How can they be healthy?
It’s already four o’clock in the afternoon, and the children haven’t eaten yet; their mother has 200 grams of rice saved for dinner. It’s easier to fall asleep and not think about food.
Due to constant hunger, the children have started experiencing serious health problems. And Mariam’s older sister has stopped growing.
“I don’t know what I want… I just want to eat.”
– Eka, please don’t cry! I know, life is not easy for single moms in Georgia!
Ekaterina (mom): I’m sorry, but the tears just flow on their own! I feel so sorry for my little ones! Due to stress, I’ve started having severe choking fits. I don’t tell the girls, but something is swelling in my throat and choking me badly. Please help with the examination! Because if I die, what will happen to them? And I don’t have money for doctors and medication. It is more important for me to feed my children.
The girls don’t have a single intact toy. But they are grateful that their mom is still alive and their dad didn’t kill her…
“Mom taught the children to pray to Saint Mary to send them food.”
Ekaterina pays almost all her allowance for this shack at the end of the town… But soon she and her children will be evicted from here too.
“We’re afraid to sleep on this ottoman… It could collapse, and we’d hit the hard floor in our sleep… So scary!”
– What do you live on?
Ekaterina: The three of us live on about 80 lari per month! Do the math yourself: the allowance is 580 lari, but out of that, 400 lari go towards rent and 100 lari towards electricity.
– Is there no one helping you? Where is the father of the children?
Ekaterina: I don’t know. We haven’t seen him for three years. We barely escaped from him. He used to beat me, even when I was pregnant… And when he started to beat me in front of the girls, I couldn’t take it anymore and reported him to the police! I should have done it much earlier… But we’re in Georgia! I was afraid of judgment! The girls still remember it. They have a huge emotional trauma from it now!
“If we don’t address the spinal curvature now, my daughter could be hunchbacked for life.”
“Oh Lord, Lord, help them get examined!”
– Your health too needs to be improved! You’re talking now and gasping…
Ekaterina: Yes, it’s the goiter choking me, and fear, and hopelessness… I’m afraid that if I die, my children will become orphans. Where will they live? Who needs them? We’re being evicted from this house now. I found another room nearby for the same price. And you can’t imagine what a trial this is for me! You arrived just in time, or in a month you wouldn’t have found us alive!
“Did Saint Mary send you to us? Will you help us?” – as a farewell, holding my hand and looking deep into my eyes, as if into my soul, asked Mariam.
“I’m afraid to imagine what will happen if they stop my allowance. We’ll probably dream about crumbs of bread.”
– What is your biggest problem right now?
Ekaterina: We are moving, and this is a reason for the social agency to suspend our allowance payments. How can we live without money – I don’t know. What to eat, who to ask? From whom to take? Steal? Rob? And someone will say that prayers don’t help, but you appeared at my doorstep. Now I won’t fear that my children will die of hunger.
– How can we help?
Ekaterina: Please, help me get my girls examined. As I said, Mariam has developmental delay, she’s not growing. Her younger sister has surpassed her in height. She has a curved spine and very weak health. Anano needs to have an MRI of her brain. After childbirth, I was told that her head condition needs regular monitoring, but we checked only once 5 years ago, and that’s it!
– I think it wouldn’t hurt for you to see a doctor too! The children need a healthy mother. Maybe if you improve your health, you’ll be able to work, and thanks to that, you’ll be able to provide more help to your daughters!
Ekaterina: You’re right, but when there’s no money for bread, I don’t even have the luxury to think about myself. We need beds, bedding, a small dresser, a TV, food, clothes, shoes. The kids go to school in summer slippers, and then I wonder why they’re so weak and get sick often.
– They are very pale. And for all the time I’ve been here, they haven’t uttered a word. Are they always so quiet?
Ekaterina: It’s 4 o’clock in the afternoon, and they haven’t eaten yet. They are very shy, and don’t like to talk. They have even forgotten how to smile. They are completely deprived of everything. They don’t know what gifts are, what sweets are, there’s not even talk about meat and dairy products. They walk around in torn clothes, lie on a broken bed or on the floor, and their mother is dying of suffocation… What is there for them to be happy about? What is there for them to talk about? They even speak in whispers – they have no energy at all.
– But still, I’ll ask you, girls, about your dreams.
Mariam (10 years old): I don’t know what it is…
– Well, if you had a lot of money, what would you buy for yourself?
Mariam: In a store?
– Yes, in a big store where they have everything!
Mariam: Toys and candy? Well… I really want a tablet or a phone! Do you know how much I want it? Very-very much! And I also want a bed that won’t break! Because, you know, once when we were sleeping, our bed collapsed right in the middle of the night, and we all ended up on the floor. It was so scary! It was dark, and suddenly – bang! And you don’t understand what happened. We started crying, and Mom hugged us, and she was crying too.
“I’ve never had a birthday cake”
Anano (9-year-old): Our mom often cries. I asked her: “Will we have a cake for my birthday?” – and she burst into tears. My birthday is April 4th, and Mariam’s is the 6th! We’re like twins…
Mariam: Well, not exactly twins! I’m one year older. But Anano is already taller than me. Mom cries because of that too. Every day she looks at our spines and cries.
Anano: And do they sell toys in that store, the magical one you mentioned? I’d like to have some pretty doll, and a bed, and a phone… And also, a TV and some warm shoes. And a jacket for myself, Mariam, and Mom.
You can forget everything from hunger and not even remember what your name is.
Mariam: And I’d buy so much food that there’d be no room left in the fridge! Not pasta, but something really tasty! Meat and milk!
Anano: And I’d buy a cake for both of us. But we’ll probably never have money. Tell me, if I become a police officer, will I have money?
Mariam: What if I become a doctor?
– Of course, you will have money! You’ve chosen such good professions!
Anano: Do you know why I want to become a police officer? So that dads don’t beat moms! And so that nobody bullies girls at all! I’ll protect all girls and moms!
– And what about boys? Will you protect them?
Anano: No! They’re already bullies, there’s no one to protect them from! Let them protect themselves!
Do you think that in civilized countries people only die from diseases or old age? No! In Georgia, right next to us, people die from hunger! Well, if not immediately, then first they become seriously ill, and then they die.
Dear friends, we are facing a serious problem that requires immediate intervention. Ekaterina and her daughters, Mariam and Anano, are in an extremely difficult situation. Hunger, limited food and lack of adequate medical care seriously undermine their health.
We urge you to join us! We must save them. Ekaterina is asking for help to conduct examinations for her daughters, to provide basic means of survival – beds, bedding, clothing, and food. Let’s make sure that Ekaterina’s children have a chance for a normal childhood and a healthy future.
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Tbilisi, Kairo Settlement, line 3, apartment 5.
Every time you can help someone, just do it, and rejoice that God answers someone’s prayers through you!
We are sure that all together we will manage to save this family from imminent death.
Please don’t forget to repost our story. Let your friends know about the grief of this family! It’s extremely important!

“My daughters are so happy they’re spinning in all directions! They sleep with their heads pointing south one night, east the next…”
“I’m not afraid to open the wardrobe anymore, there are no mice in there,” says Mariam. “In the old wardrobe, they used to live and squeak annoyingly, and we had to put mouse repellent to get rid of them. But in the new one, see, there are only our beautiful clothes—new jeans, blouses, overalls…”

Poor girls! The Barbakadze family endured a lot of hunger and poverty before turning to the Chernovetskyi Fund for help.
– It’s good when troubles remain only in memories. What kind of hateful problems did you manage to get rid of?
Ekaterina (mother): I’m so happy that you brought a big double bed with an orthopedic mattress for my daughters! They both have serious spine problems and used to sleep on a broken couch. I scolded myself and barely held back tears. How wonderful that this has ended!
My girls sleep with their heads sometimes to the south, sometimes to the east, so restless (laughs). No matter which direction they choose, their backs no longer suffer.
‘I can even do a split out of joy!’</span
We also got rid of the cold, which is a big deal. For the winter, we have the gas heater you gifted us.
Friends of the Chernovetskyi Fund are very thoughtful – they already helped us prepare for winter by sending a gas heater!
Anano: We got rid of ugly clothes and dressed in beautiful ones.
Mariam: We really enjoyed shopping. We never went shopping before or didn’t do any shopping.
‘We changed from ugly clothes into beautiful ones.’
– How did you do your shopping?
Mariam: Turns out it’s a lot of fun. You go to the store and try on everything you want! There are so many shelves, so many hangers, and everything is new and beautiful! Anano and I tried on hats, swimsuits, all kinds of skirts, blouses…
‘Shopping is so much fun! You go to the store and try on whatever you want!’
– And what did you buy?
Anano: Aunt Dina, a friend of your Fund, bought it for us. She took us there and said, ‘Go shopping.’ And we shopped till we dropped. We got ourselves jeans, jackets, summer overalls. My jeans fit perfectly, but Mari needs to gain a bit of weight. Mom will take them in a little. We each got two pairs of sneakers.
Mariam: Two pairs each!
‘We shopped to our heart’s content!’
‘We got matching jackets to look even more like each other. People think we’re twins, although Mari is a year older!’
‘We visited the fitting room a hundred times and finally chose these!’
Ekaterina: A huge thanks to Dina Khvedelidze, who took my daughters to the shopping center and gave so much joy to them.
Mariam: Maybe we won’t even need to take in the new jeans, Anano. I’ve been eating well all this time. Bananas, eggs, meat – everything that was sent to us.
Thank you for taking care of the girls’ nutrition! They have growth and spine problems from hunger! They constantly need good food!
“Maybe we won’t need to take in the new jeans. I’m eating all the goodies you’re sending us.”
– So, girls, are you impressed with the shopping?
Anano: I am also in awe of the tablet and the phone. Do you know who gave Mari the phone? He’s a very famous boy, a singer! You’ve seen him on TV too.
‘I’m also in awe of the tablet and the phone! I’m still thrilled with excitement!’
– There are many famous boy singers in Georgia. Don’t keep me in suspense, please tell me.
Anano: That boy is Vache Gviniashvili!
– Amazing! How wonderful!
Mariam: He found out that I wanted a phone for my birthday. And he came to my birthday with a phone! I never thought something like this could happen. It’s so nice! I’m still so happy!
Ekaterina: All three of us—me and my daughters—are in high spirits. I want to personally thank every person who helped us. When you are doomed and someone saves you from disaster, you feel incredible joy and gratitude! That’s how I feel right now, a can’t express it with words.
Mariam: And I can! You’ll see, God will definitely bless you. My sister and I also bless you. May you live joyfully, happily, and cheerfully!
Mom, tell them about our massages!
Ekaterina: Friends of the Chernovetskyi Fund have promised to arrange massages for my daughters. It’s a clinic in Gldani. They need to find a specialist who will provide general massages. Mari and Anano have spine and growth problems, you remember… We’re waiting for their call.
– How can we help you now?
Ekaterina: We left our old, rented apartment and moved to a relatively decent one, and our social assistance was stopped. Until it’s restored, we will be starving. It’s a strange system, not designed for living people.
– I almost asked about help from the state…
Ekaterina: Don’t even ask. We really need food right now to get through this period.
Friends, if any of you can give the girls a summer vacation, it would mean the world to them. Mariam and Anano have never had a holiday and are spending this summer in the sweltering city.
