“Auntie, is my brother going to die?” That’s the first thing little three-year-old Sesili asked me the moment I stepped inside. Any person with a soul would freeze hearing such words – and I was no exception.
REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO GOD!
How could such a tiny child even know that word – “die”? Could she really understand what she was asking? Dear Lord… how I wanted, in that moment, to comfort Sesili. To cry with her if she truly grasped what was happening. But first – I had to understand what was going on. Where did those words come from?
I walked down the stairs – and with each step it grew darker.
Behind that door was life – the fragile life of three children.
Three hearts beating in a basement where light barely reaches the floor.
Dear reader, what do you see in the faces of these children? They are asking for your help. They are counting on you. Read their story – and decide for yourself whether these little angels deserve support.
At first glance, you might think, “They look like children from a film.” But instead of a famous director, their home was visited by a reporter from the Chernovetskyi Fund, to tell all of Georgia about the ordeal they are living through.
Tamar, a young Georgian mother of three, greets me at the door. She smiles – tiredly, yet sincerely. She speaks softly – little Sesili has just fallen asleep.
“She was waiting for you, my little angel,” Tamar says.
“But sleep won over, and she drifted off. Please, stay until she wakes up.”
Of course, I waited. When Sesili finally woke, I saw her eyes – so clear, and just a little sad. She’s only three, fragile as a stem.
Then there’s Victor – a four-year-old boy with the weary eyes of an adult. Victor suffers from seizures every week. He collapses, his body stiffens, foam comes from his mouth. It’s epilepsy. It’s hard to imagine anything worse. But when a loving mother watches it happen to her own child – no words can describe her agony. God, help them! Help cure this cursed illness, or at least ease it enough that the boy doesn’t die during a seizure.
Sesili has the same condition. When she gets a fever – her eyes swell, her breathing falters, and her mother just holds her tight, praying she won’t suffocate.
That’s her old teddy bear – her best friend, especially in winter. When the damp room grows freezing cold, that little bear is what keeps her warm.
While I was speaking with the mother, the eldest daughter, Nastya, entered the room. She’s nine. She was wearing a clean, neat shirt – her “best one,” as Tamar later told me. Nastya put it on when she heard a journalist was coming. She stood straight, like a grown-up. She was silent.
I asked Nastya what she dreams about. She didn’t answer right away. She turned away first, then began to cry. Tears fell onto her “best” shirt as she whispered through sobs: “I just want my sister, my brother – everyone – to be healthy and okay.”
And then Nastya added softly: “When I grow up, I’ll be a doctor. I’ll save people and help everyone.”
Their childhood passes between seizures, medicine, and silence. But when they smile, even for a moment, that dark basement seems to grow a little brighter.
Tamar, the mother of three, has diabetes. She often feels sick – yet at night, when the city sleeps, she sits beside her children’s beds, listening to their breathing.
Sometimes she whispers: “God, please… not tonight. Not tonight.” Because of diabetes Tamar’s health has worsened. And because of lack of money she did not get treatment, and developed complications. Now, because of severe obesity, she struggles even to move.
But this is not just a story about poverty. It’s a story about love that never gave up. About a woman who lives in darkness – yet every day lights a spark within herself, just to see her children breathe.
I asked Tamar: “What do you need most right now?” She was silent for a long time. Then said quietly:
“I’d like to get the children examined – to understand what’s happening to them.” Then, after a pause, she added: “Some food, so they don’t go to bed hungry… And a few household things – a fridge, a washing machine that doesn’t shock you. But most of all – health. The rest… we’ll manage.”
Her husband, Alexandre, sits on a chair by the wall. He barely speaks, he can only see with one eye. Another eye is completely blind.
Once, he worked along the old highway, loading trucks and earning a living. But the road was relocated. People left. And work disappeared with them. Now he gathers pinecones in the forest and sells them to bakeries. Sometimes they give him bread. Sometimes – nothing. The family’s only income is a social allowance of 850 lari a month. Every Georgian knows how impossible it is to raise three children on that.
The Tabatadze family isn’t asking for miracles. They just want their children to live. They need medical checkups for their three kids, food, and a bit of basic appliances to make life bearable. And if there’s a place on earth where a miracle is most needed – it’s here. In this basement, where three children live.
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Khashuri Municipality, village Chumateleti, 70 Tamar Mepe Str.

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! AND HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO GOD!
YOU HELPED – THANK YOU!
Tamar has been blessed with three little rays of joy: Anastasia, Cecily, and Victor. Their angelic little faces are endlessly beautiful to look at. But poverty has punished them severely – forcing them to live in a cold basement where acquaintances let them stay for a while. Night after night, Tamar finds herself watching her angel Victor endure another epileptic seizure – one that could take away his mind, his smile, and leave him disabled by morning. Because of poverty, Tamar cannot treat her diabetes. Because of poverty, her husband Alexander has lost one eye.
One bright day still found its way into their dark basement! The day we came with the gifts you provided to make their lives easier – a new gas water heater, a TV, a new bed, a dresser, bedding, lots of food, a tablet, toys.

The three little “bells” – Anastasia, Cecily, and Victor – rang with joy, ran around, and ate mountains of sweets!

The old TV, amid the children’s excited shouts, ended up on the floor, and the new giant one – like in a cinema – started showing Tom and Jerry.

Look how these sad little ones lit up after watching a cartoon! Let us reveal a “secret”: They laugh at Tom every time Jerry gets away.
As soon as the handyman attached the last slat to the new bed and placed the mattress, all three kids jumped onto it to snuggle.
But Anastasia immediately shooed them off and made the bed with the new linens.
Anastasia, 9 years old: “I’m so happy, auntie! The people who sent us all this must really love children! May their kids never get sick. But if they ever need our help, we’ll help them too – tell them that. We’re going to bathe in hot water today – hooray! We won’t catch colds! We won’t have to heat water on the stove – it comes out of the tap, hot! I’m going first in the shower!”

— Anastasia, I know you’re your mom’s best helper. Look around – what else do you think the house needs?
Anastasia: “I already know, auntie! We need a washing machine. Ours makes floods, and then I have to wring the rags.”
In the middle of the joy, the laughs, the hugs, the children’s excitement, I suddenly caught the mother’s eyes. And along with gratitude, there was fear. Lord, will tonight end in another seizure for Victor? Sweet, adorable, lovely little boy… Will he have to pay again for today’s happiness? Will the ambulance come again?
Tamar, mother: “Victor’s breathing changes in his sleep, and I wake up immediately – I know it’s starting. He begins to shake, and he can’t respond. The day before yesterday he had a very strong, long seizure – three minutes! Please help us get him fully examined; it’s very dangerous. I am endlessly grateful to you and live with hope in you.”
Anastasia: “Auntie, I wake up too when my brother feels bad.
None of us sleep. I cry and just want it to stop quickly.”
A LETTER OF GRATITUDE FROM TAMAR
Friends, it’s heartbreaking, but that very same night, after all the joy and gifts, Victor had another seizure. He urgently needs a full medical evaluation to find the cause of his epilepsy.
Cecily also needs testing – she has seizures when she gets a fever.
Anastasia needs tonsil surgery so her heart and legs won’t be affected.
Tamar needs treatment for her neglected diabetes – her weight is dangerously high.
Every donation from you means one more bright day for this family.
