These are the words 38-year-old Giorgi says to his mother, Rusudan, who can now barely get out of bed.

For the past sixteen years, Giorgi’s life has depended on dialysis. Every few days, a machine cleans his blood because his kidneys no longer can.

But today, Giorgi is no longer most afraid of his illness.

He is afraid of losing the one person who has spent the last sixteen years giving him the strength to keep fighting.

For sixteen years, a mother fought to save her son.

Now it is our turn to save his mother.

Rusudan, 59: “I want to get back on my feet so I can take care of my son.”

To pay for her son’s treatment, Rusudan sold everything.

The home where she had spent her life.
Their yard.
Everything the family had worked for over the years.

They believed France would save Giorgi.

But they returned with nowhere to live…
and no hope left.

Rusudan worked as a street cleaner. Even when walking became painful, she went to work with the help of walking sticks – just to earn a little money.

Then one day, while cleaning the refrigerator at home, she slipped and fell.

Her hip replacement was damaged.

She had to undergo another surgery.

After it, she was no longer able to get out of bed.

Rusudan, 59: “I’m lying on a half-broken bed. I can’t even turn onto my side.”

When it rains, Rusudan is not afraid of getting wet.

She is afraid of something else.

She cannot even get up to move her bed.

The water drips straight onto her head.

All she can do is wait for her neighbor to come.

Rusudan, 59: “I’m so grateful to my neighbor. Without her, I don’t know what would have happened to me.”

She cannot bathe herself. She cannot prepare a meal. She cannot even get out of bed without help.

But according to her doctors, she still has a chance to walk again.

After her surgery, a rehabilitation specialist began working with her. Little by little, she started to recover.

There was hope.

Rusudan, 59: “As long as I could pay, she kept coming. When the money ran out, so did the therapy.”

And now, time is her greatest enemy.

According to her doctors, if her rehabilitation is interrupted, Rusudan may end up permanently confined to a wheelchair.

To prevent that from happening, she urgently needs rehabilitation, medical examinations, medication, a specialized medical bed, hygiene supplies, and the help of a caregiver.

Today, two lives depend on our kindness.

If Rusudan can walk again, Giorgi will have his mother back.

And Rusudan will have a reason to keep living.
