0901200270Deep hopelessness and a terrible despair seized these children, as there is
nowhere to expect any support! There are five little children: Anna-Maria is
12; Roma is 10; Luka is 9; Lasha is 4; Elena is only 2. The children know from
their own experience what it means to go to bed hungry, to walk barefoot
because they have no shoes and to live in a damp room with wind blowing through
the windows!
The family lives in Kutaisi in an apartment with leaky windows. Some walls
are “protected from the cold” with cardboard and old shabby blankets.
This dilapidated apartment has absolutely no amenities. The roof is leaking;
the walls are stripped; the floor is concrete; it is damp; there are no glasses
in the windows, and instead of glass there is cellophane. This apartment has
not been repaired for 30 years. We are very poor people and there are is no
money even for cosmetic repairs.
The seven of them sleep on three broken beds from a landfill, and dine at a
dilapidated table with peeling paint! The family has are only three chairs,
which were thrown away by somebody!
The elder children often have to miss school due to the lack of simple
shoes when it rains or when the weather is bad.
Have a look at the photos! They cannot be described with words… You will
see for yourself the horrible conditions of the large family!
The Gevorkian family is very pious; the parents believe that if the Lord
has given them the children, He will help them to keep afloat and raise them as
worthy citizens of their country, and good and compassionate people will surely
come to help!
Hripsik Gevorkian, mother of five children, told us about her hard life:
– Hripsik, where do you take money for living?
Hripsik Gevorkian: Social allowance is all we have! It is hardly enough for
simple products: instant noodles, bread, cheap pasta, potatoes… And for
electricity bills. Very rarely they can afford buying candies for children…
My husband is a handyman, but he cannot find a permanent job. When some hard
work turns up at a construction site or at a private person, then we have a
real holiday. For us it is like the New Year and all the holidays. We can even
afford one chicken…
– How do children tolerate such dampness?
Hripsik Gevorkian: In winter they are often sick as we have no money to buy
a heating device. 6 years ago, a 4-month-old child died of pneumonia. This was
the biggest tragedy in my life and I told myself that I would definitely give
birth again, because children are angels on earth and without them our
existence does not make sense.
– Do the authorities help you?
Hripsik Gevorkian: The municipality gives us 150 lari per month for
medicines. But when I applied for the repair of the roof and installation of
new windows, they refused and said that the budget does not provide for such a
service. As for the Deputy, I didn’t ask him for the help.
– What are you dreaming about?
Hripsik Gevorkian: My most cherished dream was to have many children; I am
grateful to the Lord for this and always thankfully pray for His glory! Now I
dream that they do not starve, have clothes, normal living conditions and the
opportunity to learn!
– Children, what do you dream about and who do you want to become?
Anna-Maria (12 years old): I want to become a doctor, a children’s doctor.
Well, if we talk about the dream, the dream of a laptop…
Roma (10 years old): I really need clothes! And shoes. Let it be big, I
will be able to wear it for several years! And when I become a policeman my
family will have everything!
Luka (9 years old): I want to be a policeman too… or a soldier… I want
to have new shoes.
Lasha (4 years old): I want a toy and a police car, also a toy…
At the moment, the situation of the Gevorkian family is catastrophic: the
tiny allowance is too small for the socially vulnerable family! They are in
dire need of any help: food, hygiene products, medicines for children,
firewood, children’s clothing, shoes and bed linen!
Good people are their last hope! You, who are sensitive to other people’s
pain and suffering, are the only hope!
“There are people who make a terrible sin, posting the following words on
our page: “why did she give birth, if she had no money?” Our answer
is – because God wanted it to be so! To make his angels on earth more numerous,
and to make us show our Christian qualities: love and compassion!” (Leonid
Chernovetskyi)
