 “Auntie, am I going to die?” She looks at me with her huge, Georgian eyes – exhausted by the illness. 

Nita’s life hangs in the balance – with a price tag of about $10,000, money her family does not have.
But the child doesn’t know this yet. Nor does she know that the Ministry of Health has decided not to allocate funds to her, apparently waiting to find out if the disease is truly fatal or not…

Will she die or not, beautiful Nita? Nobody outside of us in Georgia seems to care much, friends.

When I, a reporter for the Chernovetskyi Fund, met Nita, I never imagined I would see a girl with such angelic eyes.

 “Auntie, I feel so bad… But when I ask my mom: ‘Am I going to die soon?’ — my mom starts to cry,” these were the first words the child said to the foundation’s reporter.

Do you know what was the most terrifying? At that moment, in her eyes was a silent plea—“Auntie, please, tell me the truth… Do I have a deadly disease?”

Nita (8-year-old): “I pray to God that I never get sick again”

Nita suffers from an extremely rare disease of the carotid arteries—kinking, coiling, and stenosis. This cruel disease can cause a sudden stroke… a stroke that leaves the child with less than a 1% chance of survival. Do you understand what that means? For eight-year-old Nita, every minute, every second could be her last. God, just the thought of it sends chills through the veins. 

Nita has such severe headaches that sometimes she wishes for death herself. The tragedy is that even the strongest painkillers do not help her. God, why must this little girl, this angel, go through such hellish suffering?

Look into this child’s eyes… You see not only physical pain but the pain of the soul. The pain of the soul that no words can describe. This disease is so rare that only 10 children worldwide have been diagnosed with it – and Nita is the first child in Georgia to be diagnosed with this condition. That is why our country has no experience treating such cases. We do not blame Georgian doctors, of course, but the words of Nita’s mother deeply moved the fund’s reporter.

Nino Gabisonia (38 years old):  “The doctors avoid stating outright in the medical report that Nita needs examination and treatment abroad. And without that wording, Nita cannot get funding from government agencies.”

What is a desperate mother to do? Who can she turn to? Where can she seek justice? Besides Nita, the heroic mother – 38-year-old Nino – raises six other young children alone. Without a husband.

Nino is too shy to talk about why their once loving family fell apart. She does this not out of self-pity but to protect her children from psychological trauma Because true heroines act that way. 

This is Nita’s little sister, 6-year-old Gabriela. The girl knows Nita is sick and never leaves her alone. 

Holding hands, she takes Nita for walks because Nita’s vision has worsened so much due to the cruel disease that going outside alone could end in tragedy.

Behind the iron bars are carefree, happy children. On the other side of the gate stands Nita, motionless, just listening… To the joyful noise her peers make while playing. God, how much drama is in that one phrase.

For eight-year-old Nita, every minute, every second could be her last.

Despite her severe pain, this kind-hearted girl takes care of the “life” of flowers. But who will take care of Nita’s life?

The Gabisonia family is officially registered as homeless. The poor mother with her children temporarily lives in someone else’s home.

This is how she sits on the roadside, staring into nothingness. Hopeless, forgotten, alone…Only one question spins in her mind: “Am I going to die soon?”

And no one can answer this child’s question… Do you know why? Because of cursed poverty.

$10,000 is needed for Nita to have an examination in a foreign clinic. It all depends on these $10,000 whether Nita will see tomorrow morning… or fall asleep tonight for the last time – and enter eternal “sleep.”

Dear kind-hearted people, let’s not allow this tragedy to happen! This would not only be the tragedy of one family – it would become our shared tragedy, and for the rest of our lives, our conscience will torment us when we remember Nita’s eyes…
Eyes silently begging for help, and we did not hear the mute plea of this angel…
