“I need a doctor…” he answers quietly. “And glasses… and medicine… but I can’t buy them…”

He can barely see with his right eye, his right hand doesn’t obey him, his legs are lame and he’s clubfooted. It’s very hard for him to walk, and impossible to run.

Today, Zuka has an appointment with an orthopedist, medications and special glasses, but the family can’t afford them.

German Doctors warn: in the future, he will probably need surgery. Every day of delay, every week lost, deprives him of a chance for a healthier future.

You can’t even imagine where this truly amazing and sweet boy lives.

One room – just one cramped, shabby, poor room – is Zuka’s home today.

There is only one bed in this room – on it the child’s anxious dreams and the heavy fatigue of his parents are intertwined.

There is nothing else here: no chairs, no table, no place for a child to play. A room that does not fit childhood.

This is a shared kitchen and toilet.

The Vardosanidze family lives in poverty that degrades human dignity.

They rent one tiny room for 100 lari a month. The family has just over 600 lari left to live on: social assistance, a disabled child’s pension, and the father’s odd earnings as a scrap metal collector. This is barely enough for bread, medicine, and rent.

Natia is Zuka’s mother : “My soul aches because I don’t have the opportunity to give my child a real childhood. I want him to be like other children – to have health, food, good clothes, toys… Now he needs glasses, but I can’t buy them… We barely have enough money even for food…”

Natia is Zuka’s mother. She is only 38 years old. She is a very courageous person: the whole time I was talking to her, she tried not to show her tears to her beloved son. And when she could no longer hold back, she simply turned away so that Zuka would not see her crying.

Children’s tears should be about a broken toy, not about the inability to see the world. Poverty should not deprive a child of the right to a happy childhood!

These are the only shoes Zuka has. Just one pair!

He looks at his mother with his sad eyes and quietly asks: “Will I have new shoes?” Now we have a choice: to pass by and forget or to stop and help.
