The sea is what Nika trusts. He confides his pain only to the waves. As a child, he often felt the mocking glances of children playing on the beach, and since then, he tries to go to the shore where there are fewer people.

His eyes are the color of the sea. Perhaps that’s why the sea fell in love with this boy…

A boy who, from the moment of his birth to this day, has been in hellish torment.

Nika’s dream is to at least once wade into the sea, even just knee-deep. To at least once feel the swaying waves against his body. But without those damned crutches, he can’t do it.

In a high-mountain village in Adjara, in this wooden shack, lives an unfortunate boy – in such poverty that it is difficult to even describe it in words.

Today, he barely made it to Batumi by bus to see a doctor—on borrowed money. Then his heart gave out, and before returning to the village, he crawled down to the seashore.

Nika had a herniated disc from birth. He had surgery at six months. But the fact remains: he can’t walk.

Nika urgently needs to be transported to Turkey. Doctors are already waiting for our unfortunate Georgian boy. The operation has already been delayed, and now Nika risks missing his last chance. And all this just because he was born into a poor family. God, what a great injustice.

A stolen childhood, a stolen youth, and a hopeless future. Getting back on his feet, starting a family, and having children—is that too much for a poor boy to ask of life?

Nika (21 years old): “If I ever get back on my feet, the first thing I’ll do is come to this shore again and enter the sea for the first time in my life. For the first time in my life, I’ll feel that I, too, am human, that I, too, am a child of this world.”

A correspondent from the Chernovetskyi Fund and Nika collected colorful pebbles on the seashore.

Then they made a wish and released the pebbles into the sea waves, hoping that their dream would come true.

After this, Nika said goodbye to the sea. This was his last encounter with the sea this year. Today, he is returning to his native high-mountain village of Intskirveti.

In winter, the snow there is so deep that it covers the houses, making it physically impossible to leave the village until spring. When a poor boy bangs his head against the walls in pain, he can’t get into town, and even an ambulance can’t reach him.

Nika also needs daily massages, but how can she rent an apartment in the city if her family lives in poverty? Before winter arrives, she needs to get Nika to Turkey. Snow will soon fall in the village of Intskirveti, and the dream Nika entrusted to the sea waves will vanish in the snow forever…
