A tremendous tragedy…  A heartbreaking message… Our little Georgian boy… Ten-year-old David… It is unbearably hard for us at the Foundation to write these words.

“Death is just one step away from my child…” – this is what we heard through the phone when a call came into the Chernovetskyi Fund.

Dear friends, today we bring you very sad news. A 10-year-old Georgian boy, far from home, is losing his battle with death. There is only one way to save him… and we fear we may not have enough time.

Since 2023, David has been fighting one of the most insidious diseases in the world – rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive and rare cancer that develops in soft tissues. 

He has already undergone three incredibly complex surgeries. One of them lasted 17 hours and was performed in a Turkish clinic.

It was a near-unheard-of operation for a child his age and for a moment our boy became known around the world as “the Georgian hero, David.” 

It was this photograph that doctors from different countries shared – because nothing captured his courage better.

But now, sadly, all the hopeful news about our little hero has been replaced by sorrow.

The medical team is doing everything they can to save him, but recently David’s condition suddenly became critical. They discovered that fluid had begun pressing on his brain. Other processes started in his body, and David lost almost all signs of life.  

His life cannot be saved without radiological treatment – which costs nearly 15,000 dollars. What can his poor mother do? The Ministry of Health has told her that the funding limit has been exhausted. The family sold everything they had. And besides the radiology, he urgently needs chemotherapy – another 12,000 dollars.  It turns out that this little angel’s life now depends entirely on money.

David’s mother shared her pain with our Fund. 

Khatuna, 50 (David’s mother): “My son has been fighting for his life in a clinic in Turkey for a long time – every relevant agency in Georgia knows this. And yet the Social Protection Agency suspended the financial assistance that was meant for me and my boy.”

Fund journalist: “Yes, we remember that. About two months ago you told us about this for the first time. You thought it was just a misunderstanding and planned to contact the Social Protection Agency.” 

Khatuna: “I contacted them from Turkey immediately. I explained that I did not come here to work – I am taking care of my dying child. I even told them they could verify everything through the Ministry of Health. But the answer I got was: “When you return to Georgia, the review will be carried out again. 

Imagine hearing that as the mother of a dying child – from the very agency that knows exactly how dire our situation is. To receive this from your own country… it is heartbreaking.” 

This photo was taken abroad, in a Christian church, back when David could still walk. He was still so little then, asking the elders endless questions about God. 

We believe the Lord will not abandon David. And we believe that the friends of the Fund will not leave this child alone in his fight for life. But time is running out… 

Remember: every hour, every minute without radiology brings David closer to death.
