This little angel has been fighting aggressive cancer for a long time. With God’s help and the kindness of compassionate people, she has won many difficult “rounds” in this battle. Just when we rejoiced that final victory was close, the alarm of tragedy rang out: cruel death was not ready to surrender and attacked our little angel with renewed force.

Far from home, our little girl touched everyone’s hearts. Caring doctors spared no effort to save her, and again and again, each battle with death ended in Sani’s victory. But now there is no alternative other than a bone marrow transplant. State funding has been exhausted. What is a poor mother to do? How can she raise the funds for such an expensive surgery?

In this situation, even doctors are powerless. The clinic had to discharge the child until the transplant becomes possible. And now, in a small hotel room far away from home, a desperate mother keeps vigil over every heartbeat of her dying child. They are completely alone in this terrible trial.

This is Sani’s heroic mother – Iveta. Pregnant with her second child, Iveta stood alone and fought for Sani’s life far from home. Under the strain of stress and despair, she went into premature labor with complications. But by God’s mercy, a healthy Georgian baby girl was born far from home. Alisa became a symbol of strength and victory over death.

Little Sani, her tiny fingers yellowed by illness, gently strokes her baby sister. Holding Alisa fills the girl with an elixir of life. Because they are bound by the same blood. Glory to You, Lord! Alisa’s birth is a sign from God that life never truly ends.

With no money, the poor child – discharged from the clinic – now sits in a tiny hotel room in a foreign land, singing a lullaby to her doll. Ah… who knows whether this little girl will ever grow up…
Who knows whether Sani will ever become a mother herself and sing a lullaby to her own child, as she now sings to this doll… Who knows – perhaps her sun, too, could set too soon, just as the sun of our Georgian boy, ten-year-old Davit Khoshtaria, recently went out.

He, too, fought cruel cancer. And now the cold winter earth waits to embrace his small body.

We must not allow the same tragedy to be repeated in Sani’s family. Death has already tried to defeat her once – now it is time for life to win.
