Twenty-three years of suffering.

Lasha is 23 years old. A young man full of dreams – trapped in a merciless reality.

He was only six months old when it became clear that a severe congenital hip condition would prevent him from ever walking.

He grew up without understanding why he couldn’t run or play like other children. How many times did he come home in tears?

“Mom, we were playing hide-and-seek… but I couldn’t run fast enough to hide. They made me leave the game.”

Every time his mother heard those words, her heart burned with pain — and you, dear friends, know exactly what that feels like.

Today, Lasha is 23. His childhood was taken from him, and now he clings desperately to hope for a future. That hope is you – the friends of the Chernovetskyi Fund.

Our team traveled from Tbilisi to Batumi to visit Lasha at the medical center where he is undergoing initial rehabilitation.

He performs difficult exercises with determination, knowing they are preparation for surgery. But there is something he does not know.

His family has not managed to raise even a small part of the funds required for the operation.

Lasha’s father works as a taxi driver from morning until night. His earnings barely cover food and medication. And Lasha believes – mistakenly – that his father has already begun saving for the surgery.

After extensive examinations, qualified foreign specialists confirmed: after surgery, Lasha will be able to walk independently. But only if the operation is performed urgently. Twenty-three years without movement have severely weakened his muscles. There is no time left.
Every passing hour reduces his chance to stand on his own feet.

Lasha, 23: “After the surgery, when I can walk, I will start working. I’ll be able to drive and transport farm produce to city markets to sell.”

The Fund’s journalist: “Lasha, that’s such a modest dream… But I can see in your eyes that you’re dreaming of something more.

Ah… how little it takes for joy to appear in a heart full of pain. How little it takes for a person with a disability to believe, “I can move mountains,” simply because he knows he is no longer alone in this world.

But I am afraid… Afraid that I may not be able to fully convey the depth of pain carried in the soul of this bright, God-gifted young man.
