Every night, a nine-year-old girl folds her small hands and whispers the same request: “Please, let Daddy get better.”

She doesn’t ask for toys. She doesn’t ask for a new phone. She asks for her dad to be able to stand again.

When 59-year-old Ilia suddenly got sick in November 25, 2023, their life split into “before” and “after.” A hemorrhagic stroke. Twenty-five days in a coma. Complete paralysis. The doctors made no promises.

But he was awaited at home.

There was a child’s drawing on his hospital bedside table – a lopsided sun, a little house, and Dad with a big smile. With a caption in uneven, childlike letters: “Daddy, get well. I love you.”

They say fathers protect their daughters. But sometimes it is the daughter who becomes her father’s strongest protector.

Today, Ilia can already move his right arm and leg – rehabilitation has brought the first results. But he still cannot stand. He cannot turn over by himself.

He cannot drink water on his own. His speech is unclear. Examinations revealed an AV block — his heart rhythm is irregular. Because of impaired swallowing, saliva accumulates and enters his lungs, making it difficult to breathe. Every sip is a trial. Every breath is a struggle.

And there is a little girl. beside him.

She helps him do his exercises. She carefully supports his arm. She counts out loud: “One… two… three… Daddy, you can do it.”

Sometimes she gets tired. But she doesn’t show it.

There is a special bond between a father and a daughter. A father is the first hero in her life. And a daughter is his most tender heart, carried outside his body.

Right now, this father needs long-term rehabilitation:
— ongoing work with neurologists and rehabilitation specialists,
— cardiac monitoring due to the AV block,
— a speech therapist and a swallowing rehabilitation specialist,
— medical equipment to prevent fluids from entering the lungs,
— daily care and respiratory monitoring.

Without systematic support, his recovery may stall. And he has someone to fight for.

Sometimes grown men cry not from pain, but because they cannot hug their child.

The little girl keeps praying. And she believes that one day her father will stand up, take her hand, and say clearly and loudly:
“I’m here.”
