In a small, cold, and damp room sits a man whose life has become an endless chain of suffering. Before you stands a person who has been relentlessly battered by fate, and a dreadful illness has robbed him of both his legs and arms! Only agonizing memories of a once healthy and normal life remain. Fourteen surgeries have transformed him into a living shell – instead of providing healing, the doctors attempted to address his issues with surgical procedures.

“A person should pray not to fall into the hands of these ‘butchers’ in white coats. There’s no escaping them! Look at what they’ve done to me! Butchers in white coats cut me up like a New Year’s pig – says Zviad and shows us his hands and feet… – exclaims Zviad as he shows us his hands and legs, or rather, what remains of them. They sliced me up, he laments. I used to go to doctors with issues, and they sent me under the knife right away. “

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO THE WORK OF MERCY!

Only half a finger remains on his left hand, which Zviad can use to operate his wheelchair

– How all of this began?

Zviad: I was only 32 years old in 2003 when my toe started to rot. I thought it was frostbite, and it would go away. I was young then. I applied some ointments, but the condition didn’t improve. Then my toe turned black and began to hurt so badly that it was unbearable. That’s when my story of pain began. They amputated my legs piece by piece, and then the gangrene spread to my fingers. And nobody, not a single doctor said: “Let’s try to cure it. Cut… cut… so I was left half-human. My both legs are amputated above the scales, my right arm up to the elbow, and my left arm has no fingers. I think that was the end of their mocking… or maybe not – who knows.

“Look what I was and what I’ve become!”

– You were in the hospital recently, too. What happened to you this time?

Zviad: I had a heart attack one year ago. They barely saved me. I had heart surgery – heart bypass surgery. A few days ago I felt bad again. My heart started beating like a motor. And it was hard to breathe. I realized my heart was failing again, another attack. I barely had time to call an ambulance.

– It must be very hard to live alone in such a situation.

Zviad: It is. It is very sad when there is no one around to give you some water. I don’t have a family of my own – I didn’t have time to get married. And then, when I got sick, I didn’t dare to start a family. I regret it very much – I was not a bad guy.

“I do everything myself, try not to bother anyone… and to be honest, there’s no one to bother. This board and bucket serve as my bath… I bathe here in winter and summer”

– You didn’t meet the one and only, or what was the reason you didn’t get married?

Zviad: I loved… very much, but it didn’t work out. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be. In the evenings, I think about what my family would have been like, what kind of father I would have been. We probably would have had three children.   A boy and two girls… how I would have spoiled them. But then I push those thoughts away. Wives leave even their healthy husbands sometimes – perhaps she might have left me too if she had seen me in this state.”

– Who is taking care of you now?

Zviad: My mom and dad. They are very old and sick themselves – I should be their support. But look at how everything turned out? I don’t burden them. I only call them for help when I’m really bad. I even live separately from them. Not far away, but I try to be independent. The hardest part is bathing. I don’t have a bathroom or a toilet – it’s a disaster for me. And the water is outside. Filling buckets and bringing them into the house is very difficult.

“Right now, it’s just my mom with me.  She’s old and sick.  She needs my help herself.”

– What do you do?

Zviad: “What do I do” is an overstatement.  Given my condition, the words “how I pass the time” would be more appropriate. I don’t have a television. I have an old computer on which I watch movies, catch up on the news, and listen to music. What else can I do?

“I live in this room.  Alone. I have an old computer that alleviates my suffering.”

– It’s good that you reached out to our Fund! Zviad, how can we make your life easier?

Zviad: Right now, I urgently need a new electric wheelchair. I can’t operate a regular one because I have only one hand with a half a finger on it.  I need an electric wheelchair. Mine has already broken down. I go outside, and the battery dies at the most inconvenient times. The wheels are falling apart. It’s very dangerous. I could never afford to buy such an expensive item myself, which is why I reached out to you – maybe you can help.

“I don’t have running water at home.  There’s no bathroom or toilet. It’s a real challenge for me”

– Maybe you need prosthetics?

Zviad: No, I won’t be able to use them. I’m already accustomed to the wheelchair. And I have one more request – I need dental treatment. “My teeth have all deteriorated, probably due to the 14 anesthesia injections or medications.” And I would also like to ask for a water supply to my home – to have at least some kind of toilet and bathroom.  During winter, the lack of sanitary facilities becomes a real nightmare for me!

Zviad is completely alone. He has neither a wife, nor children, nor close friends who could offer him even a drop of tenderness. His dreams of having a family, of being a father, have crumbled away.  He genuinely needs our care and attention.  Zviad isn’t just grappling with physical pain; he’s also wrestling with the hopelessness of his situation. He needs our care and attention. An electric wheelchair is the only thread connecting him to the outside world, but even it breaks down, turning every outing into a risk.

Zviad has been suffering for two decades, endured 14 surgeries and two heart attacks. He remains alone with his pain and helplessness. “Remember the words from the Bible that speak to us about the importance of helping those who suffer: Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ (Matthew 25:40).’  Let’s put ourselves in his place and give him at least a glimmer of hope for a better life.  Zviad needs a new wheelchair, dental treatment, and arrangement of a bathroom.   We simply do not have the right to leave him in this struggle for survival.
