Mother Elena: Forgive me for bothering you and asking so much, but isn’t this a shared cause of ours. I won’t hide it—I’m relying on you again… (Smiles) We’re always in need of medications, diapers, wet wipes, and cleaning supplies for the bath and toilet. To care for our three bedridden residents, I use a special cleansing foam. Maybe someone would like to donate a piano to the shelter? It doesn’t have to be new, just in good working condition. Our grandmothers need more joy—this would truly entertain them. And who knows, maybe someone would even give a little concert, like the students from the Georgian-German School “Skhivi.” Oh, what a wonderful day that was! I’ve also been thinking of enclosing the area where our residents sit during the day, to shield them from rain and wind. Metal-plastic would be best. I’m seeking help with this as well. The “Lazaret” shelter regularly needs medications, diapers, hygiene items, and cleaning supplies. Visiting the grandmothers in person is a lovely idea! This day will bring them so much joy and become a lasting memory!

0901200270REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSE TO THE WORK OF MERCY!
Her story began on the day she made the decision to leave all worldly cares behind and dedicate her life to serving the Lord.
“Living in the nunnery is certainly easier. There, you pray and work all day. But here, you are responsible for everyone you have taken in”
“I wake up early to pray before my wards wake up”
“Everyone here has their own story, their own fate… some were brought and left by their relatives, some were found on the streets”
“Everyone secretly dreams of one thing – to die in their own home, in their own bed. But unfortunately, not everyone is granted that”
“When they were young, they never thought they would live their days alone”
“They are like children – they rejoice in the slightest display of warmth and care”
“Complete strangers can become as close as family”
“Be patient, modest, and humble, do good, and carry your cross with joy””
The Lazaret” has become a shelter for elderly ladies who have been abandoned and forgotten, even by their own families. Among the residents of the “Lazaret” are those whose families can no longer or do not want to take care of them, and Sister Elene has taken on this challenging mission.Life in the “Lazaret” is about service and compassion. Sister Elene not only cares for the physical well-being of the women but also provides them with spiritual care. Her days are filled with prayer, reading the Holy Scriptures, and interacting with the residents of the home. She has to deal with illnesses, aging, and loss, but her faith in the Lord and her belief that her service is a gift from God sustain her in difficult moments. This nun has shown that God works in mysterious ways She left the comfort of the nunnery to care for the most vulnerable members of our society. Her story serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion and serving others, especially those who are in the greatest need.
May this post be an inspiration to all of us to find ways to serve others, like this dedicated nun, and contribute to creating a better world.

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!
Just look at all the joy your kindness brings! Grandma Dodo sends you countless kisses!
Each grandma at the ‘Lazaret’ shelter has her own way of enjoying the gifts. This time, we brought them plenty of care supplies and porridge.
Dodo instantly opens the pack of curlers, makes herself a curl, and, thrilled, blows dozens of kisses. Mary, the most literary of the grandmas, recites Ilia Chavchavadze’s poem My Beloved Country in gratitude for the gifts—combs, creams, liquid soap. She’s simply unforgettable!
Grandma Izo breathes in the scents of cosmetics and wishes the Chernovetskyi Fund’s friends longevity, health, and prosperity. The most musical of the grandmas, lovingly called ‘Giuseppe,’ dances with her hands from her armchair.
“Grandma Mary, in gratitude, recited Ilia Chavchavadze’s poem My Beloved Country for the friends of the Fund.
Grandma Izo wishes everyone health and long life for remembering the elderly in the shelter.”
Mother Elena, the head of the shelter, smiles warmly and gives us a long hug. In a Facebook post about the Chernovetskyi Fund and its friends, she wrote: “The kindness they sow in this world is an eternal path for their souls. I can’t even begin to count the acts of compassion they’ve shown.”
“How wonderful that you brought me so much porridge!” says Mother Elena. “I have three bedridden grandmothers, and nothing is better for them than porridge. I’ll make some right now. Come to our kitchen; I’ll show you how well I use the gas stove you gave us. I love cooking for my grandmothers. I’m making lobio in a big pot. Now it’s time to add the tomato sauté. And for my bedridden ladies, there will be buckwheat porridge with milk. May the Lord bless you and grant you every blessing!”
Mother Elena cooks lunch herself for the residents of her shelter on the new gas stove
For the three bedridden grandmothers, she makes milk porridge. She was delighted with the large supply of porridge
Mother Elena: “If I ask the Fund for anything, my request is fulfilled within a week! I just mentioned that the shelter urgently needs a freezer for food storage—the regular fridge just can’t handle our needs – and now, here’s my spacious chest freezer!”
Mother Elena: “Here’s my spacious chest freezer! I just asked the Fund, and a week later it was here!”
Mother Elena: Happy and grateful, I pray for you and bless you every day. But I also know that no matter what I say or how much I thank you, I will never be able to describe the love and support the Chernovetskyi Fund and its friends have given me! I could not have done anything alone! I am so happy we are doing good together!
– The grandmothers are in good spirits and positive, they are well taken care of. The rooms are clean, sparkling, and beautiful. You have a small team – how do you manage it all?
Mother Elena: I have wonderful helpers—Zoya and Eliso, born for this work. And we have the friends of the Chernovetskyi Fund helping us! Thanks to you, our washing machine runs 24/7, and I’ve confidently turned on the heating. I bathe the grandmothers morning and evening and keep them warm, so they don’t catch cold after their showers.
The personal gifts have really lifted their spirits
Grandma Dodo, not wasting any time, immediately used her new curlers
Mother Elena: Thanks to you, I feel so much braver now. Our utilities are paid—no one will cut off our gas like they did so many times before. When I first met the Fund, your staff visited, and I shared my worries about the utility bills. Since then, I haven’t had a single day of worry. The Fund’s friends paid for our gas for the entire year. More than that—they even covered the upcoming winter! Look, we still have 3,239 GEL in credit!
Friends of the Fund paid for gas all last year, and there’s enough left for this winter, too.
Mother Elena: Kind people I don’t even know, friends of the Fund, deposit money to our account—500, 300, 20, or 5 GEL… I’m endlessly grateful that so many people care. I pray for you constantly. May the Lord strengthen you and bless you with joy and all good things. But who am I to say this? The Lord Himself sees your kindness and will bless you.
It’s a true blessing to be able to help them, our grandmothers. They have no one else. And those who do have family, well, they rarely visit, if at all… So the holidays pass—New Year, Christmas, Easter—without a word from loved ones. Not too long ago, I had to go alone to bury Yulia, a longtime resident of my shelter. Ten years together, we had become like family. All the way back from the cemetery, I cried for her. How could it be? No one had come; but I know Yulia had a close relative…
But, thankfully, the kindness of so many good-hearted people brings peace to my soul. The Fund’s friends lovingly care for our grandmothers and spoil them often. Giviko Katsitadze regularly brings hygiene supplies—shower gels, soap, shampoo. Shotiko (I can’t remember his last name) keeps us stocked with chocolate and jams, made with love by his mother. Our grandmothers love sweets! And you may have seen their cozy gatherings in the yard with coffee, candies, and cookies.
I’m so grateful and happy to thank the school communities who have helped us with food, clothing, and even appliances: the private school Academos, School No. 133, and the Georgian-American High School. After your post, staff from several organizations also visited, each bringing gifts—’Kindness is Contagious,’ ‘My City is Killing Me,’ ‘Fund of Mothers’. Domenik Mango and Nino Modebadze brought groceries and warm clothes. It brings such incredible, boundless joy; it’s truly amazing!
Thank you to the Chernovetskyi Fund! And my deepest gratitude to all of you, people of boundless kindness and love, for every happy and heartfelt moment you’ve given us!
– Mother Elena, what does the “Lazaret” shelter need on a regular basis?
Mother Elena: Forgive me for bothering you and asking so much, but isn’t this a shared cause of ours. Mother Elena: “I’d like to ask for that particular cleansing foam for my three bedridden grandmothers”
