Natalia, a true Georgian, faces all procedures with remarkable resilience! She’s so beloved by all the doctors at the Turkish oncology clinic that they pray for her recovery! The beauty of Georgian children is irresistible! Back off, you cursed cancer, leave the little one alone! She’s still far too young to endure such suffering!
Natalia is only 1 year and 8 months old. But the entire staff at the renowned Turkish oncology clinic has already fallen in love with her. Poor thing, they found a tumor in her body that had clenched onto her spinal vertebrae like a relentless predator. Kiss your healthy children more often, friends! And remember, you’re the luckiest people in the world! Thank God, your child is healthy and doesn’t plead with you with beautiful eyes and tears to save them from terrible pain!

Lord, what a beautiful girl she is!
Sophia (Natalia’s mom): What would you think if your perfectly healthy child suddenly started stumbling? Started tripping over their own feet? Of course, you wouldn’t think your child had cancer and that it was hindering their ability to walk. That was exactly my reaction. I thought Natalia was just playing around. But at night, she started trembling. I held her close, there was no fever, but she couldn’t calm down, trembling and crying. We took her to the hospital. They conducted examinations, brain tomography, tests, but in Georgia they found nothing. They started injecting her with dexamethasone, this cursed medication, which, as the Turkish doctors later said, is completely contraindicated for tumors!
– But she didn’t get any better?
Sopho: I didn’t wait and didn’t experiment on the child, we took our last money, borrowed from acquaintances, and went to Turkey. And there I saw real professionals. That’s where they diagnosed her with this terrible diagnosis, “malignant neuroblastoma and encephalopathy. Natalia has a tumor of significant size on three vertebrae, which embeds into the spine and prevents the child from moving.
Oh, these nasty tubes! The little girl wants so badly to rip them out of her tiny body!
With a smile on her face, Natalia said goodbye to her gorgeous golden curls.
Sopho: Now I know the second name of death. It’s malignant neuroblastoma and encephalopathy! They can bring unimaginable suffering even to an adult. And seeing how they torment a little innocent girl – it’s even frightening for me to think about!
– How would you describe your reaction when you found out about your daughter’s diagnosis?
Sopho: My heart was shattered into pieces. I told the doctors, “You’re mistaken…” It flashed through my mind that it was all just a horrible dream! However, I understand that trials come to everyone on earth, and despite the pain and sorrow, we must accept the will of God!
– How did you and your family cope in the first few days after the diagnosis?
“I have no right to be weak and show my tears. My girls won’t forgive me for that.”
Sopho: We prayed believing that God wouldn’t leave us! Because in such cases, there’s no one else to rely on but God… God sent us angels in the form of kind people who helped us arrange the trip and treatment. We’re grateful to them! We would have never managed to cope on our own. Natalia needs chemotherapy. It’s crucial. She’s had three sessions already. She needs at least seven more. But we’ve run out of money completely. That’s why I turned to you. I know for sure it was God who directed me to you! And you’ve already convinced me that the Fund has many friends in Georgia!
After the treatment, Natalia learned to walk again… Lord, how great You are!
As we were wrapping up the interview, this snapshot accidentally appeared, where Natalia seems to briefly want to say to us: “Goodbye.” See you back in Georgia, dear! You are a child of the country with the most heartfelt people in the world!
– What were the most difficult moments for you and your family during the treatment, and what moments bring happiness?
Sopho: The most difficult moments were the first days of accepting this as reality. When Natalia’s hair started falling out after the first round of chemotherapy. And the most genuine moments of joy were when we saw a smile on our daughter’s face after a successful stage of treatment. When she stood up and took steps. When she learned to walk again. These moments remind us that God is with us and that there is hope for the better.
– Sopho, we’ve been conversing with you for hours now, and you’re so resilient, not shedding a single tear! It’s truly admirable! Your strength must surely influence everyone around you.
Sopho: My philosophy when it comes to facing difficulties is based on faith and hope. I believe that all trials given to us have their purpose and meaning, and that we must go through them with dignity to become stronger and wiser. I’ve learned to trust in God and see His hand in all aspects of our lives.
How much more suffering this little girl has to endure depends on the availability of finances. And how soon she will become healthy again depends on us!
– What advice would you give to other parents who are just beginning their struggle?
Sopho: My main advice is to never give up, never show weakness in the face of illness. God is always with you, and through prayer and faith, you can overcome any difficulties. Look at me, I’m pregnant. I’ll soon have my third daughter. I left my sick daughter in Turkey alone with my mom. And I came to Tbilisi to give birth. I haven’t seen my first daughter, Nini, who is now 9 years old, for a very long time. But despite all this, I know that no one will find relief from worry or tears. I won’t show anyone my weakness. Everyone looks at me, and I have no right to show that something is wrong! Yes, I admit, when no one sees or hears, I cry at night, sob, but only for myself and only into the pillow. But the rest of the time, I’m a tank! I’m strong, and my daughters, my parents, and my beloved husband need me!
‘Save me, please! Pray for me!’
Yet, the more we dwell on them, the more futile they appear. Ultimately, the nature of diseases, especially cancer, remains an enigma even for the most advanced modern medicine.
But perhaps within this enigma lies a different truth, carrying a profound lesson for us. Maybe, in the suffering of the little girl, we should see a reminder of the fragility and unpredictability of life. We must accept that in this world, there isn’t always an explanation or justice, but there is room for compassion, support, love, and mercy. There is only one way, and that way is God!
We ask you to put yourself in the shoes of Natalia’s parents. Imagine that your daughter, your little angel, is facing such a trial. Feel their fear, their despair, as well as their determination not to give up.
Each contribution you make to the Fund will be a step towards Natalia’s recovery. Every penny will bring us closer to seeing that smile again on the face of the little girl when she can run and play with other children. Join us in this fight, and let’s together make the world a better place for this brave little girl.
